We are a friendly mixed chorus who love our Scandinavian (primarily Swedish) heritage and enjoy celebrating our culture by singing together. Sweden has a rich tradition of choral singing that goes back many centuries. Our repertoire includes both contemporary and traditional Swedish choral music and folk songs, sacred as well as secular music. Most ot the songs we sing are in Swedish; some are in English and a few in Danish and Norwegian.
We welcome new singers, with or without Scandinavian background. We have no auditions, and you don't have to speak Swedish - we have several native Swedes who help us with pronunciation and translation. The Vasa Voices originated in the Nobel-Monitor Lodge #130 of the Vasa Order of America. Most of us are Lodge members, but you do not have to be a Lodge member to join the Vasa Voices.
We have two major events each year; a spring concert in May and a Lucia/Christmas concert in December. Both of these events are part of the programming of Nobel-Monitor Lodge. We also have participated at the Scandinavian Festival in Jamestown, New York, and local cultural events and international festivals.
The Vashon Island Chorale is a non-auditioned mixed chorus located on Vashon Island in the southern Puget Sound. It is one of the most prominent and influential cultural bodies on the Island. The Velvet Hills Chorus has been a chapter of Sweet Adelines International for over 50 years! We currently have over 70 members and are always welcoming new members. We are united in our love of singing 4-part unaccompanied Barbershop harmony. Our Director is Darin Drown. We rehearse each Monday night from 7-10 p.m. and have extra weekend coaching session once a year. The Chorus performs throughout the Pikes Peak Area. We participate regularly in the Rocky Mountain Region 8 Annual Chorus Competition. In the 2019 regional competition the Chorus took 2nd place and earned a wildcard spot to compete in the 2020 Sweet Adelines International Competition.
Our members have many opportunities for learning and improving musical skills during rehearsals and competitions. In the continuing quest for musical excellence, we occasionally bring in nationally renowned coaches (e.g., Peggy Gram, Betty Clipman, Jim Arns, Renee Porzel, Ase Hagerman, Carol Kirkpatrick, Sharon Babb, Marge Bailey).
Venetian Harmony is a non-profit chorus of women singers who sing a cappella music in the Barbershop style. We are an affiliate of Sweet Adelines International. We love to sing for our community, and are available for performances at your next function.
The Venice Chorale's mission is to serve a regional audience by promoting the art of choral singing through vocal excellence and multi-generational education. Supporting chorale performance in the public schools has been part of our mission from the outset. The Apprentice Program, "Seniors Mentoring Juniors," was instituted in Exsultate's first season. Five students are chosen for the program each season. The program has benefitted dozens of students, many of whom have continued their music studies and work as musicians and teachers and many of whom have continued to sing in chorales and churches in places where their lives have taken them.
We extended our outreach to young musicians by establishing the Youth Chorus in the 2013-14 season. 25-30 students from grades 4th-8th participate and perform in each of the three performances of the season.
The Mayor of Venice designated Exsultate! as the Chorale of Venice a decade ago. Since then, our organization has expanded beyond the concert choir to include the chamber and youth choirs as well as the apprentice program, and we have become the resident chorale of the Venice Performing Arts Center. We have developed working partnerships with the Venice Symphony and the Venice Concert Band, providing the opportunity to broaden our audience and spread the love of song and the joy of singing to more and more people in the Venice region. The Venice Chorale looks forward to continuing for many years to come!
We are the Venice Gondoliers, the local chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Education of Barbershop Quartet Singing of America (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. now known as the Barbershop Harmony Society.)
We sing for fun and fellowship and share our music with Civic Clubs, Schools, Retirement Centers and a variety of Community groups. We dress up in our best Barbershop finery for our Annual show, held each March, where you might find us performing Broadway show songs, traditional Barbershop tunes, sacred hymns or rousing patriotic anthems.
We are a nonprofit organization which sends performance proceeds to the Barbershop Harmony Society in Nashville, which distributes such proceeds to Music Programs, Scholarships and Cultural groups. Currently there are twenty six of us, women and men, who sing with the Venice Gondoliers.
If you like to sing and if you would like to share in the fun and excitement of barbershop harmony, then why not visit one of our rehearsals? All you need to be a Venice Gondolier is an interest in singing and harmony. Our music programs teach you basic music reading skills and vocal techniques.

Quintessence is an Ottawa-based group of six singers who specialise in a cappella performances of a wide variety of repertoire from big-band through to hits of recent years, as well as some original material. The group was originally formed in 1985 under the name of 'The Ottawa Jazz Choral,' and has developed a distinctive style to create melody, accompaniment and even percussion, all from only six voices. Many of the vocal arrangements that they perform are tailor-made to their voices by arrangers from within the group. Their influences include 'Manhattan Transfer,' Take Six,' the Swingle Singers,' 'Les Double Six,' and 'The Real Group.' Their performances include pieces ranging from Glenn Miller to George Gershwin, and from Bach to the Beach Boys. Quintessence has performed at a wide variety of engagements in Ontario and Quebec, as well as in Geneva, Switzerland and Sacramento, California. They have performed with Rosemary Clooney, Carol Welsman, The Canadian Symphonic Pops Orchestra, and the Bel Canto Wind Quintet. Their main aim is to have fun exploring the a cappella vocal medium!
Officially, The Vocal Majority Chorus is the Dallas Metropolitan Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Not one of the 12 men who gathered on that first cold night of December 2, 1971, could have imagined the success of the VM. They wanted to form a chapter that would become the finest singing ensemble in the world. So, under the guidance of founder, first president, and marketing director Bob Arnold, the Chorus was born, and Ray Anthony consented to be the first director in April of 1972.
VocalPoint uses the power of people, art, and collaboration to tell the stories of organizations doing life-changing work. We shine a spotlight on important issues such as youth homelessness, the immigrant experience, and sex trafficking. We give 100% of performance-driven donations to a worthy cause that will make a dramatic impact in everyday lives. We have collaborated with such gifted musicians as Maria Jette, Jearlyn Steele, Copper Street Brass Quintet, Peter Mayer, the three-time Grammy-winning Sounds of Blackness, and singer/songwriter Sara Thomsen.
Our programs are multi-sensory collaborations that are unlike any other choral concerts. In our seven seasons, we have supported the work of Open Arms of Minnesota, Avenues for Homeless Youth, Neighborhood House, The Advocates for Human Rights, Upstream Arts, One Heartland, Twin Cities R!SE, and Walk-In Counseling Center. Highlights include hosting panels of the AIDS Quilt, singing with the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota, being dazzled by the puppets of In the Heart of the Beast, and singing to the breathtaking choreography of Zenon Dance Company. We've commissioned pieces by Abbie Betinis and Joan Szymko, and had the honor of premiering pieces by Elizabeth Alexander and Abbie Betinis.

Our members come from all over the Greater Boston area and beyond. Many of our members are very dedicated; some drive a long distance on Thursday nights to sing with us. Our informal slogan is "Is it Thursday yet?". Our rehearsals typically involve a fair amount of work, but the results are
sometimes magnificent.
Members are expected to do their homework and to show up prepared to sing and perform without holding sheet music or iPads. We do not hold music in performance so the ability to memorize is important. So is the ability to perform....we are singer/actors, not just singers.
