Our mission is to provide educational enrichment for Oakland County and metropolitan Detroit communities; to expand and enhance cultural experiences through dedication to the highest musical performance standards by presentation of significant classical and contemporary choral works; and to expose the listener to the finest choral literature in order to foster an appreciation of composers and singing. Our activities and performances are made possible through the generosity of individuals, local businesses, ticket sales, and chorus membership dues. We always welcome new supporters of music. OCS is 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.
The artistic objectives we strive to achieve include interpretation of the compositions as the composer intended, with attention to dynamics, tempo, and to the emotions conveyed through the music. We aspire to perform each work with the original instrumentation dictated by the composer. Each concert, from preparation through performance, becomes another opportunity to improve our musicianship, our knowledge of the choral repertoire, and to present to our audience a concert that will keep them engaged so they will return for future OCS concerts.
Related to the artistic objectives are other considerations to enhance the experience of the audience and participants. These include choosing a performance venue that will "bring the music to life" with its ambiance and acoustics; selecting soloists who will complement the chorus, orchestra, and venue; providing a program booklet for the concert that will educate the participants about the works performed; and putting all of the above together to create a positive environment for the enjoyment of the concert.

When it comes time to describing the fondness for singing by the German people, there is just no easy way to begin. Whenever a significant number of German speaking people gather, all one needs to do is hum a few bars of a familiar refrain, and let the German love for music take its course. German singing ranges from the familiar drinking songs to Wagnerian opera; from songs about nature to songs about love; from hearty and robust to light and soft.

p>Like all high callings, thoughtful worship requires focus and effort. Certainly the call to worship is not exclusive to music, but permeates all areas of life. In the context of church music, however, the call to worship calls participants to give careful attention to both words and music. This can be learned and must be taught, and Oasis is committed to this process.
Worship cannot be divorced from a heart tuned to God. Oasis seeks participants eager for fully-orbed spiritual development.
Not all artistic music is rapidly attainable for all singers or accessible to all audiences. Artistic music usually requires training to be sung excellently and to be listened to with understanding and appreciation. Oasis intends to provide the necessary training to move singers and audiences forward one step in this process.

Ojai Community Chorus has been a vital part of Ojai since it was founded in 1987. It is a true community chorus: open to any singer of any age (professional or amateur, whether able to read music or not) who is willing to commit to the group's mission and put in the necessary work to achieve it. And that mission is to produce two shows a year (a themed performance in the spring and a holiday program in December) of the highest possible quality. Originally confined to religious/classical works, the chorus now performs a wide variety of music, both sacred and secular. A perfect example was our much-lauded Spring 2019 program, which featured a cornucopia of music from the jazz canon.
The chorus is extremely fortunate to be led by Connie Woodson, who has been our music director for the last 15 years. A gifted singer herself, she has a deep grasp of repertoire, a dogged determination to perfect our sound, the expertise to get us there, and a true talent for putting together crowd-pleasing shows. She is also part of a wide network of professional singers and musicians who can be called upon to augment the regular chorus when needed. Thanks to Connie, we believe we are as fine a small-town community chorus as one could find.

We are excited to have started this community choir in 2015, watching it grow to so many voices. The only requirement we ask is some familiarity with singing and the ability to sing in tune (i.e. the ability to match pitch). Music selection will be based on the actual ability and voices that come together, however, generally songs will be drawn from traditional, contemporary and popular sources. This truly is a community choir open to all voices and ages, teens to seniors are welcome. Come lift your voice and be a part of this amazing choir!
Founded in 2008, there are currently 25 men between the ages of 16 and 87. If you love to sing and have fun, come check us out! There are no auditions and no one is turned away. We'd love to have you!

Initially organized as a sixteen-voice ensemble for a single concert project in June of 1999, the immediate success of the collaboration quickly evolved into an ongoing ensemble of sixteen to twenty-four singers, offering a wonderful array of choral performances each season. The organization was soon incorporated as a non-profit arts organization under 501(c)3 status.
Omaha Children's Choir was founded on the premise that the study of music makes a positive difference in the lives of young people in ways that can help them socially, emotionally, and even academically. Significantly, it gives them a unique opportunity to learn about their own and other's cultures and the society in which they live, as well as helping them develop sophisticated skills and an empowering aesthetic awareness that generates self-esteem and empathy. Research proves that these gains cross boundaries, providing the same advantages to all students, regardless of their ethnic or socioeconomic backgrounds. Students who develop their musical skill to a high degree have many advantages, including advanced performance opportunity and potential college scholarships.
Shape-note music is a living folk-singing tradition with over two hundred years' history in the United States and with roots that go back centuries before that. Our group meets to sing every second Sunday of the month at Saint Vincent's Church at 51st and Lake Streets in Omaha at 1:30, with a yearly all-day singing on the Saturday before the second Sunday of April. Everybody is welcome to sing with us!
