Selah Gospel Choir (SGC) is a Black and women-led community performing arts organization that serves Los Angeles County under the fiscal sponsorship of Fulcrum Arts' Emerge program, a 501(c)(3) that provides resources, communication services, and other support to artists and cultural organizations to further their artistic endeavors. Founded in September of 2007, SGC has cemented itself as a space for people who want to sing gospel music birthed by the spirit of the Black church and the ancestry of Black community but are either unable to find it in their home place of worship or do not identify with being in a church at all. Gospel music was introduced to the mainstream through the radically unifying activism of the 1960's Civil Rights Movement. That collectivist spirit is the foundation of our mission to uplift and strengthen our communities through an individual connection by singing inspiring, soul stirring gospel music. Rooted in our mission, SGC's primary goals are to make gospel music available to all who wish to sing it; improve musicianship among our singers with focus on ear training, music theory, rhythm and movement; and share the good news by making a joyful noise to broad audiences via our bi-annual concerts, community events and various other performing and recording opportunities.
The Sensational Nightingales were assembled in the '40s. In 1957 they appeared on the Gospel Train tour with The Clara Ward Singers and five other big-name gospel acts. Members included Julius Cheeks (lead), Carl Coates (bass), JoJo Wallace (tenor), Howard Carroll (baritone), and Paul Gwens (tenor). Their noted hit was "See How They Done My Lord." One of the earliest gospel quintets, they recorded and toured throughout the 1990s. Many of their '50s and '60s sides (found on MCA reissues) feature the stunning vocals of Rev. Julius Cheeks. As with Archie Brownlee, Cheeks reaches an intensity that distorts the actual recordings, and his style has been heavily "borrowed" by Bobby Bland, Wilson Pickett, and others. The later recordings by Charles Johnson are smoother and slicker, but still top-notch. ~ Bil Carpenter & Billy C. Wirtz, All Music Guide

Seraphic Fire brings together professional vocal and instrumental artists from around the country to perform repertoire ranging from medieval chant and Baroque masterpieces to commissions by leading living composers. The Seraphic Fire media catalog contains 16 releases. In 2012, two of the ensemble's recordings, Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem and A Seraphic Fire Christmas, were nominated for GRAMMY Awards.
Seraphic Fire's artistic accomplishments also have translated to partnerships with The Cleveland Orchestra and New World Symphony, among others. At the forefront of Seraphic Fire's mission is a commitment to community well-being and musician advancement through educational programs for South Florida's underserved elementary students, as well as rising music professionals at University of Miami, Florida International University, UCLA, and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Since its debut performance in 1997, The Seraphim Singers has created a special niche among Boston's performing elite with performances of a wide variety of the masterpieces of sacred choral music drawn from the earliest times to the twenty-first century. The Seraphim Singers has honed critically acclaimed, refined and elegant interpretations of sacred masterworks composed over the centuries, from Palestrina, Victoria and Byrd of the Renaissance; Bach, Monteverdi, and Handel of the Baroque; Mendelssohn and Rheinberger of the Romantic; to Widor, Vierne, Langlais, Copland, and Durufle of the twentieth century.
The Serendipity Choir has been spreading joy throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for over 20 years. We sing because we enjoy it and have fun doing it. We sing twice a month on Sundays at religious services throughout the Bay Area.
We sing Jewish music of all eras, locations, and languages, including Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino, French, Italian, and English. We perform both Ashkenazic and Sephardic folk music. Our repertoire spans the medieval plainchants of Ovadiah the Proselyte from the twelfth century, Italian Renaissance of Salamone Rossi's madrigals through nineteenth-century liturgical music of Germany, twenty-first-century Israeli and American classical works, show-tunes from the Yiddish theatre, and modern popular styles. Over the past decade, we've become known as the choir that tries the new, the off-beat, the unusual. We've even done doo-wop and vocal percussion.
We perform throughout New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania at synagogue celebrations, interfaith services, Jewish community events, Yiddish clubs, retirement homes, and choral festivals.
Sharim v'Sharot is an independent choir. We meet in Mercer County, New Jersey throughout the year. Our members are students and professionals of all ages living throughout Central New Jersey and the Greater Delaware Valley. (You don't have to be Jewish to sing with us.)

The Sheepscot Valley Musical Arts Society (SVMAS) began in the late '70s when Dick and Nancy Tarr, Howard and Dorothy Kahl, and Jim and Mary Thibodeau drew up an outline of goals for the new organization. By 14 February 1980 several other people had been recruited by the efforts of Bill and Winnie Bowers, Barbara Shelton, Jane Chester.
Today the Sheepscot Valley Chorus is a thriving non-profit community chorus which presents programs with professional chamber orchestras and soloists. Talented local students are often showcased at our concerts. We look forward to the many musical delights the future will bring.
In the Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir great music of all styles and historic periods is performed. The repertoire includes classical music, contemporary music, folk songs of many cultures, newly-composed works and sacred and secular songs with emphasis on love, peace, and friendship. Concerts are given both locally and in major centers of the United States and the world. Rehearsals are conducted with strict discipline with emphasis on regular attendance, preparation, punctuality, and excellence. Technical knowledge is imparted through practice and performance. Solfege-inspired teaching is at the heart of the rehearsals. Because learning to read music is an important part of SVCC participation, choristers receive weekly solfege instruction and will complete solfege memorization, practice sight-singing, and homework based on these lessons. Children with treble voices in grades 3-12 who have passed an audition may participate. Financial assistance is provided to qualified, interested children who would not otherwise be able to participate.
The Sheps are without a doubt one of the most popular acappella groups in the N.Y.- N.J. circuit today. We have the credentials to prove it! The five part vocal group consists of original members, Tommie Shider and Richie Camacho, along with Charles Coleman and Johnnie Barlow. All residing in New Jersey. Tommy Lockhart, the fifth member lives in New York. All five members have "paid their dues" so to speak, as in gaining experience to form one of the most unique blends of harmony today! They are all committed to singing many songs that other groups won't even touch. It is for the fact that they do these obscure songs so well, that it is no wonder that a fan club was formed immediately after their very first performance! Upon receiving awards and plaques over the years, this has not changed the way the guys feel about 'really keeping the music alive!" Also these fellows have one of the highest reputations for being back-up forces for such greats as Pirkle Lee Moses, leader of the Eldorados, Otis Williams leader of the legendary Charms, Ray Wooten, leader of the Mellow Moods, Johnny Bragg, leader of the Prisonaires, Ray Pollard, leader of the Wanderers, the incredible Ruth McFadden, Bobby Mansfield, leader of the Wrens, Harvey Fuqua of the Moonglows, along with an impressive list of many more. With all this going for them, they still find the time to create their original songs in which they are constantly turning out.
Now in our 20th season, we are a four-part chorus with over 40 members of various ages and Jewish affiliations. The Ramblers won the International Gold Medal in Seattle in 1983 after several years of competing. In 1975, Stage Door Four baritone Dennis Malone's company transferred him to California although he wanted to continue singing in a Dallas quartet . That left two other members of the disbanded Stage Door Four, tenor Keith Houts, and super lead, Jim Law looking for a bass. One night in late 1975, 6'5" Earl Hagn appeared at a Vocal Majority rehearsal. With very obvious 6'3' bass vocal chords, Earl was approached by many three man quartets.
This 50-member choir out of Montgomery, Alabama, includes singers living with Alzheimer's, stroke and dementia, their caregivers and volunteers.
Saturday, June 27, 1964, undoubtedly was the happiest day in the history of the Riverside, CA chapter. On that day the Riverside Citrus Belters chorus won 5th place bronze medals in its first International competition. And four chapter leaders, a group known as the Sidewinders, became the new International quartet champions. Some championship quartets, by necessity or by choice, have not always been strong members of the chapters to which they belonged. Not the Sidewinders. Tenor Jerry Fairchild had long been chorus director. Lead Joe Daniels had been president and was about to be named to that post again. Bass Jay Wright was three-term secretary. Bari Gene Boyd was past membership vice president, show chairman, and perennial committee member.
The main purpose of Sierra Gold Chorus is to get out and sing for our community. We sing at annual shows, a number of community events, and at annual competitions. We are available to sing at your next function or event. In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience.
We are always looking for new singers to join our group and now could be a perfect time to join. Click the link below and fill out the electronic postcard and send. Nothing could be easier. We normally have our rehearsals every Wednesday usually around 7pm although special numbers may meet earlier. Rehearsals often end before 9pm unless we need to work on something special.
Their first Regional contest was in April 1991, where they got their very first medal -third place. The following spring Signature Sound placed second and scored high enough to be given a wild card slot in the International contest in Baltimore, Maryland.
The quartet won their first regional competition in 1994, and were off to Reno, Nevada for International. Their goal was to make the top twenty, but they overshot that and ended up placing ninth. For the next three years, the quartet continued to place in the top ten.
In Nashville, Tennessee, in 1998, they came in second place. In September 1999 in Atlanta, Georgia, Signature Sound achieved their goal and were crowned as queens. Leslie would win another crown with MAXX Factor in 2010.

In this meetup, you'll meet like-minded individuals who love to sing and move in a joyful and liberating way. We practice the art of saying YES to what is happening in the moment - exploring sound and movement, expressing ourselves, making stuff up - applying the elements of music to create change in our lives and our relationships. We've noticed, in ourselves and each other, that we are opening up and feeling more freedom in other areas of our lives.
