A wide selection of both a cappella and accompanied vocal harmony arrangements of many different styles and voicings. |
A cappella has been enjoying great popular interest in recent years which in turn has help create a new genre of vocal music known as contemporary a cappella. Modern pop songs are given a new twist with unaccompanied arrangements that can often sound like the band with vocal instrumentation and vocal percussion adding a full sound. Fun for younger performers and audiences alike.
The Great American Songbook, also known as "American Standards", is the canon of the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century. Although several collections of music have been published under the title, it does not refer to any actual book or specific list of songs, but to a loosely defined set including the most popular and enduring songs from the 1920s to the 1950s that were created for Broadway theatre, musical theatre, and Hollywood musical film. They have been recorded and performed by a large number and wide range of singers, instrumental bands, and jazz musicians. The Songbook comprises standards by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin, and also Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Richard Rodgers, and many others.
If you're a fan or performer of choral music, you know that many of the amateur ensembles tend to lean towards the same repertoire. Whether four-century-old folk music, liturgical pieces, or even a choral take on 1980's pop, we've got everything a choral fan and performer needs to expand their repertoire and make their singing the freshest experience it's ever been, including choral songbooks and sheet music from some of the top choral arrangers and ensembles of the last half-century.
Our arrangements our compiled from a variety of sources to provide the best selection possible. Most of them are designed for the group at the intermediate skill level. Though some of the songs included within this category are in fact popular or traditional compositions, it is the style of the arrangement that we classify as jazz.

Barbershop is one of the areas of the a cappella world where finding arrangements isn’t hard – there are many, many outlets for them. Too many, in fact. It’s sort of like doing a Google search – winnowing down your search results to what you’re actually looking for, and excluding the stuff you don’t want or need. Well, Primarily A Cappella has done that search for you, and we’ve narrowed down the barbershop arrangements section to the stuff that’s really worth singing. The only way we could make it easier for you is if we sang it for you – but it would be a lot more fun for you if you sang it yourself!
A great way to expand your ensemble’s repertoire is to include arrangements from other countries which can also add a little international flavor to your concerts. Always fun to sing we have collected a wide variety of folk songs from all corners of the world.
Doo-wop, a distinctly American musical form that flourished in the 1950's, has shown how enduring those songs have become as the music is introduced to a new generation. The harmony sounds of the genre, especially for male voices, adapt very well to a choral or group setting and will liven up any concert.
Spirituals are the Southern sacred "folk" songs created and first sung by African Americans during slavery. Their original composers are unknown, and they have assumed a position of collective ownership by the whole community. They lend themselves easily to communal singing. Many are in a call-and-response structure, with back-and-forth exchanges between the leader and the group. A formal concert tradition has evolved from the original spirituals, with solo and choral arrangements based on original slave melodies, employed for performance by amateur and professional artists.
