The Chorale is the flagship, classical choral ensemble of the School of Music at Belmont University. It is also one of the earliest performing ensembles in Belmont's musical history. This auditioned, mixed ensemble performs diverse literature from all genres, and is currently under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Ames, Director of Choral Activities.
The Belmont Chorale has a distinguished history. It has been recognized for its musical excellence with performances at MENC conventions and the Southern Division of the American Choral Directors Association. The ensemble tours annually and has enjoyed great success with European tours. International performances include the St. Moritz Festival in Switzerland (1985 and 1987), Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania and Yugoslavia (1989), England (2004), and the Republic of China (2007).
We love to sing! Our mission is to unite singers from the Belmont, Massachusetts community and surrounding area in fun with song. All are welcome. For beginner to experienced singers alike, we seek to provide an opportunity to gather regularly to sing with an ensemble, to improve our vocal skills (no matter the starting point!), and to perform as an ensemble at local venues. We sing a variety of exciting vocal music from yesterday to today.
In 2012, a small band of singers gathered on a warm, late-summer's night in the chorus room at Belmont High, to discuss the possibility of forming a community chorus. Some of us sang in the six-week Belmont Parent-Teacher Chorus that winter. Our founding leader, Kathy Ryan, asked "Why can't we keep on singing all year round?" We closed the evening singing an a cappella round, committed to "going for it;" our numbers were few, but our spirit was strong.
Belmont Open Sings invites choristers to read through masterpieces from the choral-orchestral repertory with a full orchestra.
Dion & The Belmonts (named for a neighborhood street - Belmont Avenue), one of the defining vocal groups of the late 1950's, members were Dion DiMucci - lead, Fred Milano and Angelo D'Aleo on tenor, and Carlo Mastroangelo on bass. At first Dion and The Belmonts were separate entities although they both recorded for the small independent Mohawk label - Dion with "The Chosen Few" and "Out In Colorado" and The Belmonts with "Teenage Clementine" and "Santa Margarita" none of which were hits. They then signed with Laurie Records and now together recorded "I Wonder Why" which became a big hit. They had several other hits such as "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "Where Or When" but in 19601 they parted ways with Dion DiMucci going on to successful solo career.

The Bennington Children's Chorus was started in 1987 by Barbara Kourajian. Kourajian had been an accompanist to a children's choir in Montana as well as a high school choral director there before she moved to Vermont in 1985. While working in admission at Southern Vermont College, Kourajian found she really missed music and, with the help of the van der Linde family, she recruited students for a children's chorus. The Bennington Children's Chorus met for its first rehearsal in February of 1987 and gave its first performance three months later.
The Bennington County Choral Society welcomes singers from the surrounding communities in the tri-state area. We will be performing a varied selection of music in two concerts this coming year.
Berkeley Broadway Singers (BBS) is a 55-member community chorus under the music direction of Deborah Mart nez Rosengaus. We sing songs from Broadway shows and movie musicals, with a dash of standards from the Great American Songbook, nostalgic tunes from the 20s, 30s, and 40s, as well as jazz, Latin, doo-wop, blues, and other popular music.
Founded in September 2012, the Berkeley Community Chorus is a mixed ensemble of adult singers serving Berkeley County and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. The motto "A Singing Social Network" represents the purpose of building community in the county and within the membership of the choir. The circular oval shape represents that ongoing process. The colors represent each of the county high schools as a path to unification of our membership from each of those service areas. No sports rivalry here (well, after rehearsal...).
Open to singers 18 years of age and older. This is a face-to-face personal and musical gathering to interact through making music together and sharing our experience with our listeners. Billing themselves as '800 pounds of harmony,' Chillicothe, Illinois' Big Four became Sweet Adelines Quartette Champs in 1953. Fine singers and entertainers, they appeared on tv with Jack Paar, Steve Allen, Arthur Godfrey and Dave Garraway of the 'Today Show' to name just a few. This CD is a remastered album they recorded in 1958, plus several cuts gleaned from live shows. The Big Four are Bertha Bradley, bass, Sarah LeMaster, baritone, Inez 'Junior' Thompson, lead, and Lucille Miller and Mary Waters sharing the tenor duties. There are 14 studio recordings and 7 electrifying live performances here. By the pound or by any other measure, this is Entertainment!
When it was established in 1983, no one could have imagined that the Big Apple Chorus was going to make the kind of impact that would propel it through over 25 years of extraordinary musical performances. Its members are, after all, just ordinary people...husbands, wives, sons, fathers, mothers, and brothers...most without any formal musical training.
We work in just about every field you can think of. We are blue collar and white collar people, students and retirees, with a diversity that mirrors the great City our chorus so proudly represents - New York! And each week this seemingly-incongruous group gathers in Manhattan to make beautiful music together.
Why, one may ask, do we do it? The answer is simple: we sing for the joy of performing our beautiful and moving music for our appreciative audiences. And perform we do...with a verve and theatricality that puts the Big Apple Chorus in a class by itself.
For a group of men and women whose main musical qualification is simply that we enjoy singing and are able to carry a tune, the venues in which we have performed over the years (see "Chorus History") create for each of us an enviable list of stage experiences. The Big Apple Chorus has transformed scores of "ordinary Joe's" into stars!
Our members hail from all the boroughs of New York City, from New Jersey, Westchester, Long Island, Connecticut and from as far north as Saratoga Springs, New York. The map below will give you an idea of where we come from to sing with the Big Apple Chorus.

Birdland Avenue is a contemporary jazz collective with origins in Boston, MA. The five birds include Haley Castuera, Evan Linsey, Kayla Pichichero, Toria Rainey, and Adrienne Rube. After all meeting in their college a cappella group at Boston University, this collective formed as a side project when they did a cover of Ella Fitzgerald's take on "Summertime." Every since then, the birds have continued singing together, putting their own jazzy spin on songs old and new. Musical influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Andra Day, Lianne La Havas, and ThirdStory.
The Birmingham Sunlights developed their four-part a cappella style within the Church of Christ, where no musical instruments are permitted. Three brothers, James, Barry and Steve Taylor founded the group and are joined by Reginald Speights and Wayne Williams (replaced by current member Bill Graves) in performing well-known hymns as well as original pieces. Upon becoming aware of the rich Jefferson County gospel quartet tradition they sought training from a senior quartet, the Sterling Jubilees, to learn songs traditional to the area.
Besides appearing at numerous festivals across the nation, such as the National Folk Festival in Lowell, Massachusetts, the Sunlights have toured five countries in Africa and performed extensively in the Caribbean and Australia under the auspices of the U. S. Department of Information. Their recent dynamic performance on Garrison Keillor's American Radio Theater on National Public Radio won them many more fans across the nation. They recently performed in France as ambassadors of Alabama traditional culture.

We love to sing, entertain and make people laugh, so our shows include skits, antics, choreography (the kind a 5-year old could memorize), talking toys as lead singers (!), and mildly effective costume changes. We appeared on eight seasons of the TV show Scrubs as "Ted's Band" or "The Worthless Peons" - yup, we're those same four guys. Our unique live show appeals to fans of Scrubs but just as equally to fans of the TV show Glee, the Marx Brothers, the Three Stooges, and Monty Python.
