From the beginning, PYC has been a fully functioning non-profit organization under the governance of a hard-working board and an illustrious honorary board. Within weeks of the first rehearsal, the original two choirs doubled in size and voice to become four choirs. Pacific Youth Choir immediately found a home as Choir in Residence at Portland's Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. And by the end of the first season, five choirs were in place, with 120 voices and singers ranging in age from eight to 18.

In 1998, the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles presented their holiday concert in Palm Springs. After that performance, a group of local residents banded together and formed a singing group called the Caballeros, The Gay Men's Chorus of Palm Springs. There are still a few charter members from that group in the chorus today.
Though the name changed, the mission of the chorus remains the same: To be a chorus of gay men, who through musical excellence, community outreach, and civic responsibility, are dedicated to entertaining, inspiring, and educating the culturally diverse community in which we live.
Beyond our annual season of concert, the chorus sponsors or participates in a number of outreach events. Donations from these events help support the George Zander Memorial Anti-Bullying fund. Grants from this fund help support Gay Straight Alliances in the Palm Springs and Desert Sands Unified School District.
The chorus continues to support its community partners by singing at hi-profile events including: Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, the AIDS Assistance Program's Evening Under the Stars, Equality California Awards, Michael Childer's "One Night Only" Benefiting Jewish Family Services and a recent concert in Las Vegas benefiting Family Promise.

The Bad News is, the former Sweet Adelines Queens of Harmony, the four lovely, talented women of Panache, have disbanded and are no longer singing together as a group. The Good News is, they left us this wonderful 2-CD set to remember them by! We won't go into the individual titles, but suffice to say that there's a 'whole bunch' of our favorites on these two CDs, including selections from discontinued Panache titles. These are the songs that took them to Sweet Adelines Gold, and that made them one of our best selling Barbershop titles. These four beloved entertainers are leaving exactly the way they came into our lives with Panache. Enjoy!

Pasadena Pro Musica was founded in 1964 by Edward Low, the Music Director of Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church. From the beginning, we have been committed to providing a place for musicians and audiences who appreciate great choral music that is not frequently performed. Originally called Neighborhood Chorus and Orchestra, the group was a pioneer of early music on the West Coast in the 1960s and 70s, performing long-neglected Renaissance masterpieces by Isaac, Josquin, and others.
When Ed Low retired in 1999, he was succeeded by Stephen Grimm, who led the group for 19 creative seasons until his farewell in 2018. Current Artistic Director Scott Lehmkuhl is taking Pasadena Pro Musica in new and exciting directions while still honoring our musical origins.
Pasadena Pro Musica has performed many contemporary pieces and a number of world premieres, including works by Los Angeles-based composers Thomas Yeakle (for many years our composer-in-residence), Morten Lauridsen, William Kraft, John La Montaine, Elaine Bearer, Shawn Kirchner, Eric Whitacre, Richard Bing, Frank Ticheli and Rayner Brown. We enjoyed deep artistic relationships with two musical luminaries: composer Daniel Pinkham, who frequently guest-conducted his own works, and Jester Hairston, the celebrated songwriter, arranger, conductor, actor and leading expert on spirituals, and who regularly led the chorus in his own gospel arrangements from 1966 to 1992.
Pasadena Pro Musica has also collaborated with artists from the world of theater and opera, presenting staged performances of Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors with mezzo-soprano Suzanna Guzman, Jean Anouilh's The Lark with music by Leonard Bernstein, and the wonderfully strange musical Boojum!, based on the life and works of Lewis Carroll.
In March 1981 in Norfolk, Virginia, Rev. Frank A. Paschall, Sr. and five of his seven sons came together to form their very own acappella gospel singing group. The Rev. Frank Paschall & the Paschall Brothers. Under the guidance and direction of their father and with the help of God, these young men have become one of the most unique and innovative singing groups in their field today.
In 1984, the group was reformed after the departure of two of the five brothers. During this turbulent time of transition, the group was blessed with the gifted voice of Renard Freeman. Also a native of Norfolk, Freeman possessed the same drive and dedication of the group that allowed God to continue to bless this ministry of song. At the time, the group consisted of Rev. Frank Sr., Frank Jr. Tarrence, William and Renard Freeman. Since their existence, this group of young men has been/ and are a blessing of encouragement to thousands upon thousands of people all over the eastern seaboard.
The Pass Chorale is a community chorus serving Banning and Beaumont CA and surrounding communities. The mission of the Chorale is to provide opportunities for learning and performing choral music. Two major concerts with orchestra are performed each year.
Over the years, jazz has seen its share of talented vocal groups --New York Voices, Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, Andy Bey & the Bey Sisters, and Beachfront Property are among the names that immediately come to mind. All of those groups had two-gender formats, and rarely do you find a jazz-oriented vocal outfit with an all-female lineup; Pastiche is such a rarity. Consisting of singers Jenny Meltzer, Sandy Cressman, and Becky West, the female trio brings a jazz foundation to this self-titled debut album. But having a jazz foundation doesn't necessarily mean being a jazz purist or a jazz snob, and Pastiche is an appropriate name for the Bay Area threesome because Meltzer, Cressman, and West obviously have a variety of influences -- not only jazz vocal outfits like Lambert, Hendricks & Ross and New York Voices, but also everything from soul and pop to Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, and Caribbean music. Stevie Wonder has influenced some of the writing, and so has the Manhattan Transfer.

When Director Harry Langley organized the Pekin Orchestra and Choral Society in 1953, he had dreams of a successful adult music group with growing popularity. Little did he know that his group would emerge into a 90-member Pekin Civic Chorus, presenting a five-night sellout performance every other year, plus a Sunday matinee!
In December of 1953, the chorus gave its first performance with the Pekin Symphony Orchestra, when they presented "The Messiah", the famous Handel Oratorio. The group was known as the Pekin Orchestra & Choral Society. In 1954, the group again sang "The Messiah" in December and followed with two symphony concerts in January and February of 1955. Paul Wagner was the director of the 52-piece orchestra.
On May 12, 1974 a group of 29 nervous singers gathered in the College Union Building at Plymouth State College in Plymouth, New Hampshire. An audience of 35 family members was present, curious to hear the result of six months of rehearsals. An hour later, as the last of the selections concluded, the enthusiasm of the performers and audience was tangible. The Pemigewasset Choral Society had been launched.
Known affectionately as "Pemi" by its members, the chorus had its genesis at a meeting of arts enthusiasts held in Plymouth a year earlier, in the spring of 1973. Meeting to discuss ways to enhance arts offerings in the region, two young women -- Katherine Hillier and Vivian Norwood -- went on to create the Choral Society, while others organized Plymouth Friends of the Arts.

The Penna-Fores, including sisters Shirleyann and Betty, had competed internationally nine times before winning and continued to entertain audiences until their retirement in 1985, capping a 15-year career. Betty explained their philosophy after the 1980 contest: "We love singing and do everything we can to improve our skills, but as long as we are making progress musically, the fun we have is worth the work. We have used competition as a learning experience, never allowing placement in contest to destroy the enjoyment of singing together." Betty has stuck by that philosophy throughout her Sweet Adeline career, which includes two terms as international president of the organization (1991-93). As former director of Vienna-Falls Chorus in Virginia, Betty is another of the seven Sweet Adelines to win gold medals as both a quartet member and chorus director. Betty also directed the Houston Horizon Chorus for many years and is currently leading The Woodlands Show Chorus in The Woodlands, TX.

n the mid 70's, Eileen Finley was asked to prepare a select group from her school chorus to participate in Neshaminy High School's annual musical production. The musical, "Hans Christian Anderson," included a significant role for a children's chorus. Throughout the production, the choir parents happily transported the children to rehearsals and performances, provided costumes, and purchased tickets. After the final performance, a student came to Ms. Finley and asked, "So, what do we do now?" With the impetus of that question and the encouragement of the choir parents, the PYC was born.
Eventually, the choir incorporated under the name "Children's Choir of Bucks County." Later, as the program grew to include more students from Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, the name officially changed to "The Pennsylvania Youth Chorale."
Founding Director Eileen Finley retired at the end of the choir's 40th year, in 2017. Current Artistic Director Kelly Wyszomierski looks forward to a long future working with this remarkable choral program.
