The Omaha Chamber Singers has solidly established itself as a choral ensemble of the highest caliber, earning admiration for excellent performances of exceptional choral literature of all historical periods. Initially organized as a sixteen-voice ensemble for a single concert project in June of 1999, the immediate success of the collaboration quickly evolved into an ongoing ensemble of sixteen to twenty-four singers, offering a wonderful array of choral performances each season. The organization was soon incorporated as a non-profit arts organization under 501(c)3 status.
Omaha Children's Choir was founded on the premise that the study of music makes a positive difference in the lives of young people in ways that can help them socially, emotionally, and even academically. Significantly, it gives them a unique opportunity to learn about their own and other's cultures and the society in which they live, as well as helping them develop sophisticated skills and an empowering aesthetic awareness that generates self-esteem and empathy. Research proves that these gains cross boundaries, providing the same advantages to all students, regardless of their ethnic or socioeconomic backgrounds. Students who develop their musical skill to a high degree have many advantages, including advanced performance opportunity and potential college scholarships.
Shape-note music is a living folk-singing tradition with over two hundred years' history in the United States and with roots that go back centuries before that. The sound is different than that of any other music, and the tunes are written in special notes invented to help untrained singers learn to read music. Our group meets to sing every second Sunday of the month at Saint Vincent's Church at 51st and Lake Streets in Omaha at 1:30, with a yearly all-day singing on the Saturday before the second Sunday of April. Everybody is welcome to sing with us!
The mission of the Omaha Symphonic Chorus is to enrich the community with the highest quality of live choral music, to promote fellowship and artistic growth among its singers, and to inspire a broad audience with performances spanning the diverse spectrum of music for large chorus.

Classical or contemporary, accompanied or a cappella, towering masterpieces or international folk traditions, all styles are represented in OSC's diverse repertoire. Performing 3 to 5 concerts in a typical season, the 90 voice ensemble is augmented or reduced to meet the needs of the selected program. Chorus members come from all walks of life and are selected annually by audition.

What matters and what's magic is, it's different every time, and singers of all levels of experience are welcome.

For full consideration, potential chorus members should submit their materials in November and December each year. Existing chorus members are re-invited annually based on their most recent live auditions and on the repertory programmed.

The Oriana Singers have been stretching artistic boundaries since first coming together in 1979. Led by noted conductor William Chin, they have toured Chicagoland and abroad, experimenting with the chemistry of Renaissance songs and contemporary vocal jazz spark for audiences and singers. The six-voice soprano-soprano-alto-tenor-baritone-bass (SSATBB) configuration of The Oriana Singers has been recognized by leading critics for making a difference in presenting a wide range of a cappella music for diverse audiences. This mission has expanded to foster collaborations across disciplines with other artists and nurture emerging choral ensembles for the promotion of self-directing small ensemble singing.
The Oriana Singers is recognized for its innovative programming, complementing existing major arts productions in Chicagoland and offering music otherwise not heard elsewhere. Recent seasons have included performances of music from Monteverdi's Eighth Book of Madrigals and the Vespers of 1610, contrasted with later programs of polyphonic folk music from Russia, Finland, and Georgia and new arrangements of popular hits from artists including Coldplay and Imogen Heap. The six-voice work of The Oriana Singers is imaginative, eclectic, and impeccably rehearsed, featuring leading vocalists associated with the Grant Park Symphony Chorus, Chicago Symphony Chorus, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Bella Voce. The singers and collaborating instrumentalists brought together by The Oriana Singers have been called "world-class" by several internationally versed listeners, including Robert Osterlund, administrator of EarlyMusiChicago, and indeed the group has made successful splashes touring in Spain and Costa Rica.
The real beginning of the Oriole Four, 1970 International champion quartet, was in 1951 outside a Baltimore high school - although no one, of course, knew it at the time. That's when students Fred King and Jim Grant first met, discovered they had a mutual fondness for harmony and sang an impromptu duet. They joined the Society a couple of years later, found two other students who liked to harmonize and formed the Deacon Four, with Jim on lead and Fred on baritone. The quartet, with occasional personnel changes, was still getting together now and then after its members had graduated, and in 1956 the name was changed to the Oriole Four.
This highly influential vocal group was formed in 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Along with the Ravens, the Orioles were considered the pioneers of rhythm and blues vocal harmony. The group members were Sonny Til (b. Earlington Carl Tilghman, 18 August 1928, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, d. 9 December 1981, USA; lead), Alexander Sharp (b. 1919, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, d. 1970; tenor), George Nelson (b. Baltimore, Maryland, USA, d. 1959; baritone), Johnny Reed (b. 16 July 1923, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, d. 18 June 2005, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA; bass) and guitarist/second tenor Tommy Gaither (b. Baltimore, Maryland, USA, d. 5 November 1950, USA). Originally known as the Vibra-Naires, the group (with original bass vocalist Richard Williams) made their debut on the Manor label in March 1948 with the track "Tell Me So". The newly renamed Orioles (to honour the state bird of Maryland) launched their career with the quiet, languorous ballad "It's Too Soon To Know", which went to number 1 in the R&B charts (number 13 pop) in late 1948. The song was written by Deborah Chessler, the group's manager, and she wrote many of their subsequent hits.

In 1950 a barbershop quartet, as yet unnamed, was to do a show in Wichita and the SPEBSQSA chapter president needed a name for the program, so he called the group 'The Orphans.' The name grew on them, and in 1954 they won District and Prelim contests, and then they were off to the Big Dance in Washington, DC. With the help of a Miracle Doctor, lead singer Bob Groom overcame the loss of his voice on their last set, and The Orphans, the pride of Wichita, were adopted-as International Champs! They wore the Gold with pride, singing nearly 60 shows a year all over the country.

The vision for what has become the annual tradition of the Orrville Community Chorus began with one man, Victor Gerber. Victor (Vic) first performed "Messiah" in 1928 at Bluffton College, playing viola in a concert featuring a 200-voice choir accompanied by orchestra. In a 1993 interview Vic said, "I fell in love with the work and asked my minister, The Rev. A.R. Kaiser, if it could be sung in my home congregation at Salem Mennonite." The minister agreed. In 1932, Vic directed performances of Handel's "Messiah" at Salem Mennonite Church near Kidron and the First Presbyterian Church in Dalton. Corrine Gerber Krehbiel, Vic's sister, was the first piano accompanist. Thus began a tradition that continues to this day.
