The Farmington Valley Chorus (FVC) is a membership organization of female singers who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize, and have fun. Currently there are about 45 singers in the chorus of diverse ages, backgrounds and professions who sing a cappella four-part harmony in the barbershop style. Membership consists of women stretched across most of Connecticut...New Haven County to Hartford County, the Litchfield Hills to the Farmington Valley towns...all searching for an opportunity to express themselves in harmony.
Founding members consist of Sherry Ebner and Barb Ebner, former NJ Sweet Adelines, who moved to CT, met singers Colleen Sinkinson, Barbara Gerstner, Barbara West and Ethel Austin. These six friends founded the Farmington Valley Chapter of Sweet Adelines, chartered on March 22, 1975. All were from the Harwinton, Simsbury, and Hartford areas at the time, originally holding rehearsals in Granby and later moving to Simsbury.

New York City's Jazz R&B group, Feedback is a group of professional musicians who have been seen and heard by millions around the world -both live and via broadcast. Turning artists like Usher and Jazmine Sullivan on their head, the group pushes the boundaries of both jazz and R&B. Feedback boasts a spellbinding variety of talents: Doug and Garrett make jingles and songs for major corporations; TEDx Beatboxer, Ben Mirin brings the beats, and can also perfectly imitate 50 bird calls; Mike takes helm at a recording studio; Alec arranges choral works, with some seeing performances at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall; Sam is a studio singer and professional whistler (which he insists is "actually a thing"). This will be Feedback's 2nd appearance at Harmony Sweeps, and they're pumped about it!

Founded in 2009, Fermata Town is now the newest member of the Contemporary A Cappella League (CAL). Inspired by the wealth of new talent in the a cappella world, we have worked hard to find our voice and put a unique stamp on the Boston a cappella scene. We pride ourselves in our original arrangements, the sound that we produce, and our ability to maintain a healthy balance between our music and active lifestyles.
Fermata Town was officially founded during the spring of 2009 stemming from the break up of the all male Boston based group The Testostertones (Boston). The founding duo of Dan Campagna and John Baptista recruited former Testostertones Dave Carr and Nathan Pierce to join forces and find other interested singers who shared the same passion for a cappella music. Be it through word or mouth, internet advertisements and craigslist posts - Fermata Town was able to quickly establish itself as one of Boston's freshest co-ed a cappella groups to hit the streets.
Over the years, more than 500 people have sung with the Choir. Every season 50 to 60 people of many different faiths - and of no faith - people from teenagers to 90 years old, from dairymen to doctors, and from seven different towns gather in Ferndale for rehearsals. We present three concerts of sacred music each Christmas and again in Spring at various venues in and out of Ferndale. Our music is described as "eclectic, electric choral music for the soul."
he Chorale has presented choral masterworks by many composers including Vivaldi, Bach, Bernstein, Schubert, Handel, Haydn, Distler, Schutz, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Puccini, Poulenc, Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Brahms, Verdi and others. These classical offerings are accompanied by musicians from Oregon's symphonic community.
Although the emphasis is on sacred choral music, Festival Chorale Oregon has on occasion investigated show music, performing Gershwin, Porter, opera choruses, spirituals, folk songs, popular music of the 20's, and of the World War II era, and has staged three Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.
The FCC meets weekly to practice our harmonies and love to share our joy of barbershop with others via multiple performances throughout the year.
Now in our third decade, Festival Opera presents professional new & classic opera productions at affordable prices to San Francisco's East Bay audiences.
We perform many different types of music, from broadway show tunes to the popular music of yesterday and today. We are always looking for ladies who would enjoy singing with us. No formal musical background is required, and reading music is not necessary. We provide all the tools needed for each member to learn her part in every song we sing, so if you like to sing, please consider visiting one of our rehearsals. Just bring your lovely voice, your desire to expand your repertoire, and your sense of humor. We think you'll want to keep coming back
Fifth Avenue is a bright, fresh, musical group - mostly because they don't know any better. They hit the scene in June of 1983 and dazzled audiences with their tight, pure harmonies and delightful sense of fun. Within a year they were appearing before 45,000 people in a two-hour concert at the Spokane World's Fair Park. They have also worked with such artists as Bill Cosby and Jerry Lee Lewis, and did a tour to Japan and China aboard the Royal Viking Star cruse ship.
After three great years they decided to take a bit of a hiatus. So they did...for nine years. This hiatus involved starting families, establishing private businesses, doing the 9 to 5 routine, entering and exiting a witness protection program, etc., but each member continued to develop his musical chops. But hey! Now, The Ave is back together and they're more fuel efficient, economical, and they have more RAM. Recently, Fifth Avenue has performed for enthusiastic audiences at the Boise State jazz festival, the Casper College jazz festival, the Frank DeMiero Jazz Camp and the 1998 International Association of Jazz Educators conference. They also had the pleasure of performing at the 1999 Boise Summer Riverfest, in concert with a jazz big band. Their audience included over 100,000 listeners in attendance, as well as countless more watching on live television. Between these engagements they've performed at colleges, conventions, and a couple of places that they'd rather not talk about.
The Filharmonic, an LA-based a cappella group of Filipino-American youngsters who were featured in NBC'S hit musical competition, The Sing-Off, has much to sing about. The 5-piece vocal group made the semi-finals, joined The Sing-Off national tour, and were featured in the Universal Pictures hit movie, Pitch Perfect 2, setting off a viral sensation after their Late Late Show appearance. In 2016, The Filharmonic brings their unique blend of hip hop, pop and 90'S nostalgia to more than 150 college stages nationwide and was named the #1 college booked entertainment group of the year.
Finess'e is a SF based group formed in November of 1985. The Finnish Choral Society is one of the few choirs, which still preserves traditional Finnish language choir music in the USA. The roots date back to 1964, when a choir named "Kaleva Korus" was started The choir eventually merged with the West Coast Singers' Seattle Chapter in the mid 1970's. The name Finnish Choral Society was established around 1980. Earlier choir directors have included Eric Salo, Sirkka Wilson, Florence Mesler, Karen Ingalls, Milo Fryling and Maarit Vaga with accompaniment provided by the noted Finnish-American composer and pianist John Sundsten. Maria Mannisto, MM, then directed the choir for 12 years. The choir is now directed by Dr. Heather McLaughlin-Garbes and MM Maria Mannisto. The choir specializes in Finnish choral music, reflecting the commitment to keep Finnish choral music alive and make it known. The choir performs at numerous Finnish and Scandinavian community events, including the Finnish Independence Day celebration, the Yulefest at the Nordic Heritage Museum, the Finland Summer Festival, Scandinavian Heritage Choir Festivals, at retirement homes, etc. Since 1976 the choir maintains the annual Kalevala Day Festival, which in 2017 was celebrated at the Nordic Heritage Museum for the 41st time.
We are four good friends who love to sing four-part barbershop harmony. We were thrilled to be the 2017 Boston Regional Champions of the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, where we also won the Audience Favorite award and our lead David Adams also won the Best Male Soloist award. Fireside is a registered quartet of the Barbershop Harmony Society, and we participate in the Patriot Division and Northeastern District conventions and contests. We also perform at public and private venues, including corporate events, birthday parties, barbershop chapter shows, minor league baseball games, and senior living communities.
The Christian a cappella group, First Call, have reinvigorated the familiar Christmas classics with fresh arrangements and sincere renditions of the old favorites. Appearances by guest vocalists and multi-tracking allow for a multiplicity of textures and sounds. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" will rekindle good will toward all in even the most cynical holiday Grinch. "The New Twelve Days of Christmas" replaces the partridge and pear tree with shopping malls and choir rehearsals, and segues brilliantly into "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." The shimmering, pure vocal tones are augmented by the crisp, digital production. This is an "Evening" you won't want to miss!
First Inversion brings together professional and avocational singers from Greater Rochester with the goal of artistic and personal growth for all through a focus on fearless and selfless musical expression. First Inversion's diverse repertoire has ranged from works of Purcell and Hasse on Rochester's Early Music Festival to works of Caroline Shaw and Peteris Vasks on the Canandaigua Lake Chamber Music Festival. Their program of African-American Spirituals on Rochester's 2018 Fringe Festival was hailed as "a gut-wrenching, educational and emotional performance that truly rang out to the heavens and called down the Ancestors," (CITY Newspaper).
The name "First Inversion" is inspired by the second chord in the opening tenor aria from Handel's Messiah, Comfort Ye. This particular chord-E Major in first inversion-is charming, elegant, and open. First inversion triads suggest (almost insist upon) forward motion. They are not static. They heighten our expectations and increase our awareness about what happens next. First Inversion's singers strive to embody this forward-thinking/hearing approach in rehearsal, in performance, and in life.
On November 16, 1871, a group of unknown singers -- all but two of them former slaves and many of them still in their teens -- arrived at Oberlin College in Ohio to perform before a national convention of influential ministers. After a few standard ballads, the chorus began to sing spirituals -- "Steal Away" and other songs" associated with slavery and the dark past, sacred to our parents," as soprano Ella Sheppard recalled. It was one of the first public performances of the secret music African Americans had sung in fields and behind closed doors.
The Jubilees not only introduced the world to the music of black America, they championed the liberties of all Americans," says Andrew Ward, co-writer of the documentary and author of "Dark Midnight When I Rise: The Story of the Jubilee Singers." More than 125 years later, the Jubilee Singers of Fisk University continue the concert tradition begun by that courageous original chorus of former slaves.
Much in the world has changed since the original version of the Blind Boys of Alabama first raised their voices together. That was in 1939, when the members were just kids at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in Talladega, Ala. Today, more than 70 years later, founding member Jimmy Carter can look back on a career far beyond what he and his colleagues could imagine at that time. The group has won a long list of awards, including Lifetime Achievement honors from the Grammys and the National Endowment for the Arts, entertained around the world, been profiled on 60 Minutes, sung for two Presidents at the White House and been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Though the group has recorded and performed with a few country artists, along with others as diverse as Ben Harper, Tom Petty, Peter Gabriel and Prince, they never crossed the line and committed to doing a project inspired by the country genre until now, with the release of Take The High Road on Saguaro Road Records. This landmark recording draws from modern and traditional country to enrich the group's gospel-rooted sound with fresh and illuminating insight.
Five By Design's signature harmonies have withstood the test of time in a career that stands out on America's musical landscape, spanning more than fifteen years. This nationally-acclaimed vocal quintet has been the choice of symphony orchestras and performing art centers delighting hundreds of thousands.
But Five By Design's creative talents go far beyond their vocal prowess. As the creative talent behind Radio Days, Club Swing, and Stay Tuned, their productions showcase the group's penchant for storytelling and the comedic. Whether backed by symphony orchestra or studio big band, Five By Design embraces the unforgettable melodies, lush harmonies, and swinging rhythms that evoke the names of Miller, Mancini and Mercer.
The Five Discs were one of several doo-wop groups (Carollons, Chips, etc.) to trace their origins to the Bedford-Stuyvesant district of Brooklyn, New York, USA. They were formed in 1954 by Joe Brocco (lead), Joe Barsalona (baritone), Paul Albano (first tenor) and Tony Basile (second tenor). Composed of Italian-descended young men and originally titled the Flames, they subsequently shuffled the pack by adding black singers Mario deAndrade and Andrew Jackson from the Love Notes. This produced a new line-up of deAndrade (lead), Jackson (bass), Albano (first tenor), Basile (second tenor) and Barsalona (baritone), though membership remained fluid over ensuing years. After recording demos at Bell Sound studios in New York the group started to offer these to interested parties. There were no takers until songwriter Billy Martin introduced them to the proprietors of the Emge Records label. They were still titled the Flames when they cut deAndrade's song "I Remember", but when it was released they had chosen a new name, the Five Discs.
Five O'Clock Shadow (FOCS) is a Boston based, all vocal rock/pop band. By using amplification and some basic effects added onto their voices, FOCS is able to create the same sound and energy as any rock band....but without using any instruments!
FOCS has been featured on VH-1's "//break.through/", FOX News, WB's Morning Show, A&E, ESPN, PBS, and more. They have also sung for the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the NFL Hall of Fame. And through their Vocal Challenge program, FOCS has presented concerts and workshops to thousands of music students from coast to coast.
The Five Valley Chorus of Missoula, Montana, was founded in 1971 and is a registered chorus with the Sweet Adelines International organization. This chorus, comprised of around 40 core members throughout western Montana, meets weekly to sing and learn the barbershop style of singing. Members come from all over western Montana, including Hamilton, Stevensville, Lolo, Missoula, Alberton, Polson, Kalispell, Whitefish, Libby, and Great Falls.
To add to the excitement we have additional ladies from throughout Montana who are exercising their option for dual membership. The combined chorus practices together one Saturday each month in preparation for contests and performances.
The chorus is dedicated to performing vocally in the classic American four-part acapella harmony, also known as barbershop music. Five Valley Chorus holds many Regional titles in Region 24 (the region included Montana, Oregon, southern Idaho and southwestern Washington) and has been privileged to compete on the International level eight times! Last year, we became part of Region 13 and are making new friends in Washington, northern Oregon, northern Idaho and Alaska!
Cousins Jacob Carey (Jake) and Ezikial Carey (Zeke) formed the group in Chicago, Illinois, after meeting Paul David Wilson and Johnny Carter at a black Jewish church. Earl Lewis soon joined, and after a series of name changes (The Swallows, El Flamingos, The Five Flamingos) wound up being known as The Flamingos. Sollie McElroy soon replaced Lewis (who joined The Five Echoes). Their first single (for Chance Records), "If I Can't Have You", was a moderate success, and the follow-ups "That's My Desire" and "Golden Teardrops" cemented their reputation. They left Chance Records sometime after their December 1953 session and signed with DJ Al Benson's Parrot Records. Sollie McElroy was on their first Parrot session, but left the group in December 1954, to be replaced by first tenor Nate Nelson (who was on their second Parrot session; he's lead on "I'm Yours," released in January 1955). In early 1955, the Flamingos transferred over to Chess Records, to record for their Checker subsidiary. They started to have national R&B hits in 1956 ("I'll Be Home," "A Kiss From Your Lips," "The Vow," "Would I Be Crying"), but both Zeke Carey and Johnny Carter were drafted (Johnny in September). They were also part of the 1956 Alan Freed movie Rock, Rock, Rock.
The Flat Foot Four was organized in the Oklahoma City Police Department by the Mayor, O. A. Cargill, in 1923. The quartet's personnel changed many times over the years, but Johnny Whalen was always the tenor. The quartet made their first public appearance at a meeting of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce.

In the pantheon of a cappella, The Flips are considered amongst the vanguard of groups that emerged during a cappella's "new wave" in the mid-1980's, paving the way for a cappella's current popularity. Founded by Kevin Carter, Patti Lesser, Kirk Livingston and Shanna Strassberg in 1984, while studying musical theater at San Francisco State University, the group honed their vocal talents singing at keg parties, in stairwells, back alleys... pretty much anywhere anyone would listen. Their unique alchemy of demented humor and gorgeous harmonies quickly turned them into the darlings of the San Francisco/Bay Area and Los Angeles comedy and cabaret scenes.
For sixty years fans have flocked to see The Florida Boys, the only male quartet that was consistently prominent from the 1950's to July 2007. With No. 1 hits like "Standing On The Solid Rock", "When He Was On The Cross, I Was On His Mind", "Lead Me To The Altar" and "I Lean On You Lord" this legendary group has recorded some 100 albums and attained a following of devoted listeners.
So what is at the heart of their success? Les Beasley, who sang lead and served as manager of the group, says it's their commitment to the calling they each have. We sincerely believe we have been doing what we were put on earth to do. We wanted our audiences to have a good time but it was most important that they hear the message in each song.
The Florida Boys' national television appearances consist of "The Today Show", "TNN's Prime Time Country", "Crooke & Chase", "Gaither Homecoming Videos" and their own "Gospel Singing Jubilee" which they hosted for many years.
The mission of Florida Singing Sons is to foster the musical knowledge, education and vocal training of its members through performances and community events and to provide the community with a source of pride in the talent and professional achievement of its youth.

This is such an incredible creative outlet, and we feel as though we have so much to show the world, as we're just getting our story started!
Flying Without Instruments, also known as FWI (pronounced "fwee"), a quirky and versatile ensemble, is now in its 18th year. FWI mounts its own concerts in San Francisco and the East Bay and has also sung at private parties, weddings, halfway houses, and religious services, and has performed twice in the regional Harmony Sweeps competition. FWI's repertoire ranges from the ridiculous to the sublime, from the elegant to the uproarious. According to the non-profit group Bread & Roses, FWI's shows are "well-paced, moving nimbly from the sacred to the profane, keeping it interesting and entertaining every step of the way."
Women's vocal ensemble, rooted in barbershop while exploring diverse musical repertoire with professional-quality musicality and performance. Harmonia believes that cultivating a diverse and inclusive chorus is a beautiful opportunity, not a final destination. We strive not just to include, but to showcase our members' unique voices and stories in our music, and we commit to seeking a wide range of collaborators, chorus members, and audiences. When we fall short, we commit to improving. Whatever your background, experience, or perspective, Harmonia welcomes you.
The Fog City Singers were founded by six members of the Bay Area choral and barbershop communities. They had a simple question: what would happen if barbershop music were infused with influences from San Francisco's rich musical tapestry? Specifically, what might Barbershop have to gain from the diverse music singing all around the city? Likewise, what might others learn from the techniques and traditions that barbershoppers cultivate in that unique American art form?
To explore these ideas, our founders invited 25 of the best singers they knew to memorize four songs at home, attend three rehearsals, then perform a friends-and-family concert immediately following the third meeting. In the end, we were pleased to discover that this was a winning strategy. The music gelled instantly, and the sound we produced was one that none of us had expected. For some of us, we were moved to unabashed squeals of excitement.
Nearly 100 people attended our debut concert on November 7th, and thousands more have watched our concert video on social media since then
Our mission is to create a close fraternity of musicians; to apply diverse, world-class resources; and to revolutionize how barbershop music is performed and appreciated.
We're the male Barbershop Chorus in the Folsom, Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, Granite Bay and Roseville areas. We're thirty men strong and growing. We sing for fun. Most of the time, we rehearse in seats. We don't even own a set of risers; but we're serious about singing and we are always working to sing better! Come visit us to see and hear what we do.
Quartet singing during chorus rehearsals is encouraged. When learning a new song, everyone that wants to, has an opportunity to stand up with guys singing the other three parts to show what they've learned. We sing tags as a group and devote part of each rehearsal reviewing repertoire, singing in a circle. We maintain a repertoire of forty standard Barbershop songs, all the Polecats, a dozen of the old favorites and a dozen patriotic songs. In addition, we'll be adding a half-dozen new songs for our next recital. We like to sing and we have fun doing it!
The line-up of this close-harmony 50s US vocal group, whose initial success was achieved by making cover versions of black R&B records, comprised Marge Rosse (New Milford, New Jersey, USA; lead), Bea Rosse (b. New Milford, New Jersey, USA; low harmony) and Geri Rosse (b. New Milford, New Jersey, USA; harmony). Their mother was a choral director and organist. After leaving high school they joined an all-girl troupe and went on an eight-month tour. Later, they were joined by their brother Frank on guitar, and appeared on radio and in theatres and clubs. After Frank was killed in World War II, the girls re-formed in 1944 as a trio and worked for several years on Perry Como's radio and television shows; they also backed him on several records, including the US number 1 hits 'You're Adorable' and 'Hoop-Dee-Doo'. Signed to RCA - Victor Records in 1949, they had several minor hits in the early 50s, including 'Tennessee Waltz', 'Let Me In' (with Texas Jim Robertson) and 'Cold, Cold Heart'.
Footnotes started in High school under the direction of Ben Ayling (bass of the Ritz) in 2001/02. The next two years Gary Lewis (tenor of Platinum and Bari of Max Q) replaced Ben as choir director and became their new coach. They competed in both the Young Women in Harmony Regional Competition and the JAD high school competition winning Gold in both. In 2006 they won the Sweet Adelines' Rising Star Quartet.
Group Members - Tenor - Erica Wagner, Lead - Heather Pase, Bari - Lindsay Sanderson, Bass - Loren Kaminski

Competitive success for the quartet includes Southern Division Champions of the Mid-Atlantic District in 2016, Second Place M-AD District Finalist in 2017, and Quarterfinalists at the international Barbershop Harmony Society contests in 2017 and 2018.
Forefront Quartet formed in August of 2009. Since then, this quartet has enjoyed success at international barbershop competitions by placing 13th in 2010, 6th in 2011, and 7th in 2012! They were also named the 2010 and 2013 Cardinal District Quartet of the Year. They won the 2010 Cardinal District Quartet Championship and of over 300 district quartet competitors from around the nation, they finished with the highest score. In 2013 they won a 5th place bronze medal for their contest performances in Toronto.
Quickly becoming one of the Barbershop Harmony Society's most sought-after quartets, they pride themselves in providing their audiences with great music, artistry, and performance energy!
The Forest-Aires Women's Chorus was founded in 1962 by Sylvia Gilchrist. She gathered Forest Hills PTA moms to rehearse and perform popular choral music for the sheer joy of singing. Over the years, women from the Greater Cincinnati area have joined the group. In a short time after its founding, the chorus was able to raise money from performances to donate to the music program in the Forest Hills Schools. After donating funds for equipment, the chorus was then able to raise enough money to start The Forest-Aires' Scholarship Program to fund voice lessons for high school students. That program is still in existence and The Forest-Aires has awarded voice scholarships to more than 342 high school students, and another six students will be chosen this fall.
