YCCO provides a special learning environment designed to be a rich and rewarding musical experience for each student. Choristers study and perform a variety of music from different genres including classical, folk, modern, pop, and indie, and from a range of sacred and secular music traditions. Repertoire is selected to give each chorister a broad music education that includes learning about other peoples and cultures. It is essential that all singers be willing to sing all repertoires.
Singing is the major focus of the musical experience in YCCO. It is a powerfully personal means of musical expression. We hope this experience will form the foundation of a life-long relationship with music for the singers and their families.
Children are taught to use their vocal instruments through exercises in posture, breathing, and tone production. The body is the instrument in singing, so musical relationships are internally experienced and are likely to be "felt" and heard. The abilities to hear, conceptualize and perceive music, and then respond musically develops naturally from the human voice. Singing skill and musical understanding are essential components of the creative process and fundamental to music education. Musical re-creation through vocal performance is a way of experiencing and expressing music unlike any other activity.
The Mission of the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota is to prepare select high school singers for performances of the highest caliber for the widest possible audience. It supports its mission by presenting concerts, recordings, commissioning and performing new choral works, and by working collaboratively with the community at large to promote singing, specifically with school music programs and other musical organizations.
The YCCT promotes music literacy and excellence in vocal artistry through the preparation and performance of choral singing.
At YCNS, children experience the joy that comes with singing diverse and challenging repertoire alongside other committed young singers. They learn valuable skills in music literacy and vocal training, cultivate new friendships in a nurturing environment, and gain confidence through performance. Singers engage with the community, and enjoy social outings.
YpM is a community of young singers inspired to excellence through meaningful repertoire, comprehensive musical training, and memorable collaborations and performances.
NWAA's Youth Choral Education Program (YCEP) is committed to providing musical education and performance opportunities for young people from grades 4 through 12 in the South King County area through its youth choir, YouthSounds Northwest. YouthSounds performs concerts throughout Burien, including NWAA's annual ChristmasSounds in Burien at Highline Performing Arts Center every December.
In a time of radical funding cuts to music programs in the schools, these ensembles provide an important and life-changing opportunity for students to learn through the discipline of music. Along the way, audiences are delighted with the entertaining performances of these dedicated young singers.
The goal of YCEP is to foster a love of singing by engaging a wide variety of music repertoire. Proper vocal technique, theory and artistry are emphasized with an eye towards developing well-rounded young musicians.
YCEP is funded, in part, by the generous support of: 4Culture, City of Burien, Tagney-Jones Foundation, KPFF Consulting Engineers, 909 Coffee & Wine, Tin Room Bar & Theater, and many individuals & families throughout our community.
Yumiko Matsuoka was born in Tokyo, Japan, and grew up there as well as in London, UK. She started studying piano at an early age, and was quickly drawn to the magic of chords. Yumiko's passion for great harmony was developed further in the high school choir, band for musical "Godspell," encounter with the music of the Singers Unlimited as well as many other composers/arrangers in a wide range of genres. Yumiko came to the US in 1986 to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. She founded a cappella ensemble Vox One in 1988 to realize her dream of writing for and singing in such a group. Vox One released five albums, won numerous awards, and established themselves as one of the pioneers in the world of a cappella music. Her arrangements are available through the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Press. Yumiko's arrangements are unique - she takes a song and reveals a layer of emotions that may not have been apparent in the original. Fans and performers of her music span the globe from Australia, Europe to the Americas and Japan. Yumiko is a professor in ear training at her alma mater Berklee, and keeps herself busy with workshops/coaching including the Western Wind's summer sessions at Smith College in Northampton, MA.

The Chorale has sung in major concert halls and communities throughout the Northeast, and in Montreal, London and across Israel.
Zamir has performed with conductors Leonard Bernstein, Daniel Barenboim, Lukas Foss, Carlo Maria Giulini, Zubin Mehta and others and has appeared with a diverse array of personalities, including Herschel Bernardi, Theodore Bikel, Tom Chapin, Shoshana Damari, Debbie Friedman, Richie Havens, Danny Kaye, Naomi Shemer, Ruth Westheimer and Elie Wiesel.
The Zamir Chorale s Jewish musical leadership has attracted trans-denominational and trans-generational audiences in the tens of thousands. The Zamir Chorale serves as the flagship ensemble of the Zamir Choral Foundation.
Performing on concert stages throughout North America, Europe, and Israel, the award-winning Zamir Chorale of Boston awakens audiences to the exotic rhythms of the Middle East to the majestic anthems of 19th-century European synagogues, from the romances of Spain to the chants of Yemen, and from contemporary American jazz to the much-loved Yiddish tunes of Jewish musical theater.
The Zeeland Civic Chorus is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1939 for the sole purpose of presenting the renowned Christmas tradition of G.F. Handel's The Messiah. The Messiah presentation is scheduled each year early in the advent season as part of a community-wide preparation for the Christmas season. (For many years, all of the Zeeland merchants closed their businesses at six o'clock on the night of the concert so that all could attend.)
The Chorus is made up entirely of non-professional singers from all walks of life who love to sing this wonderful choral work of art. Every year we welcome new members to join us and have maintained an approximate 100-voice chorus for many years. We begin rehearsing in October and have a total of 8 consecutive Sunday afternoon rehearsals. A separate dress rehearsal is held for each performance, following the 8 Sunday rehearsals.
The Chorus is supported by dues paid by the member singers and by patrons that are contacted each year by a patron committee. There is a free will offering that is taken at each performance but no tickets are sold. We are committed to a Free Admission Program.
Founded by conductor Eleanor Epstein in 1976, Zemer Chai today is one of the nation's leading Jewish choirs. The choir sings the full range of Jewish choral repertoire, from classical and liturgical pieces to world Jewish folk music in multiple languages, and new works composed especially for the choir. The concerts offer a breadth of Jewish music that is rarely heard - giving life to music that had been hidden away in dusty archives over decades or even centuries, and also giving contemporary composers the opportunity to have their works performed with respect for their vision. In the words of composer Steve Cohen, "Your magnificent rendition of Baruch Habah ... went way beyond just the correct notes; it was very clear that every singer understood just what I meant to convey, and they delivered that with conviction and assurance."
Zemer Chai has performed at the White House, Library of Congress, Strathmore and the Kennedy Center. The choir has traveled to New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, the Catskills, the West Virginia mountains - and the hills of Jerusalem. An integral part of the Greater Washington, D.C. community, Zemer Chai takes pride in building bridges to other faiths and cultures, attracting audiences of many backgrounds and participating in numerous intercultural events.
Founded on the belief that everyone deserves to have access to great music, Zenith strives to embody deep community values both musically and culturally.

In Armenian, "Zulal" means "clear water." Zulal, the a cappella trio, aims to create music that is like clear water-fluid, clean, and unconfined. The group takes Armenia's village folk melodies and weaves intricate arrangements that pay tribute to the rural roots of the music while introducing a sophisticated lyricism and energy. Zulal's music connects listeners to a simpler past, evoking the colors and characters of Armenia's village life where the celebration of nature, love, and tradition are dominant themes.
