Song of the Coast Chorus is a chapter of the Sweet Adelines International, a highly respected worldwide organization of female singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance. Our wondeful group of 30 women meets regularly to practice, perform, socialize and have fun. We are made up of singers from all walks of life, ages and parts of central Florida.
HerStory: SongRise was conceived on a shuttle to the DC Metro when Sarah Beller and Laura Honeywood started harmonizing to Sweet Honey in the Rock's "Ella's Song" after a Social Justice Open Mic. For a few rocky months they met in the practice rooms of American University every week with a revolving cast of special guest appearances until a core group solidified and rehearsals moved to the Apiary in Columbia Heights. From the moment SongRise was conceived, we knew it had the potential to solidify our individual and collective dreams of merging art with action, song, soul and substance, community and chorus, and many other alliterative amalgamations.
Songs of Africa Ensemble, a multicultural and eclectic group of highly trained musicians promoting new genres of choral music from around Africa and its diaspora, its peoples, languages and cultures. Our "Sonic Safari with Songs of Africa" is quite popular with concert venues, schools and community groups around Missouri and nationally, creating opportunities for incorporating new styles of African-descent music into modern choral repertory.
A cultural and artistic enterprise using the power of song to build bridges and enhance the life-stories of individuals and communities.

On January 15, 1994, a group of diverse community members were brought together by Jeff Harris with the hope of realizing his dream of forming a premier community choir in the Phoenix-Metropolitan area. The energy and excitement of this group led to the founding of the Sonoran Desert Chorale, with its inaugural concerts on October 29, 1994. This now highly regarded and artistically sophisticated choral organization performs music spanning time from the ancient folk music of Mongolia to the premier of modern compositions such as Prelude to Glory by Russell Wilson. The Chorale performs a repertoire meant to demonstrate that music is a language that transcends our differences and accentuates our commonality. After a celebratory 25th Season in 2018-2019 and the retirement of Founding Director Jeff Harris, the Chorale looks forward to the future with its new Artistic Director, Dr. Carric Smolnik. With a solid foundation of devoted singers and audience, the Chorale will continue to offer excellence in choral music! And Dr. Smolnik's stellar training, experience, and enthusiasm for the choral arts will ably guide the Chorale into new horizons. The mission of the Sonoran Desert Chorale is to celebrate the art of choral music by providing meaningful experiences for musicians and audience members.

In December 2008, Los Angeles vocal collective Sonos debuted at the Hotel Cafe with an "intimate, yet scorching performance... brimming with fiery fervor, major dynamics and sexual tension" (Deli Magazine LA ). The group breathes new life into a cappella , giving the genre "a contemporary makeover... prepare to be stunned" (The Guardian UK) on their debut SONOSings, available September 15 on Verve Forecast, on which the group combines a rich, classically choral sensibility with their ultra-modern repertoire and sonic toolkit.
Sonos's imaginative approach has already won plaudits from such tastemakers as Chris Douridas of L.A. bellwether station KCRW-FM, who praised Sonos's "innovative vocal arrangements" and "inspired repertoire, supremely delivered."
The SonRise Choir leads the music every Sunday at the 8:30 a.m. morning Mass (September-May). Instrumentation consists mainly of piano. The overall musical style is very choral in nature (4-part harmonies). Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings at 7:45am. It's amazing - even today the Sons of the Pioneers are still mesmerizing long-term fans and creating new ones. They still have sell out crowds and standing ovations. New fans are attracted by the current members' musical ability, by their songs which haunt you long after the concert and by the mystique of the great American West. "It's not something that is connected to hit records and charts and fads. It's just an eternal interest in the American West and they sing about it beautifully and it's written beautifully and that's something that just will never go out of style." as summed up by Doug Green.
The chorus performs a diverse repertoire of American popular music, including Tin Pan Alley classics, pop standards, novelty songs, and seasonal favorites. We complement our singing with innovative staging, movement, and dialogue, to create a unique and memorable experience for our audiences. All of our music is arranged for four voice parts and sung a cappella (unaccompanied). The male singers in our group come from various musical backgrounds, having sung in high school and college a cappella groups, madrigals, church choirs, opera, musical theater, and even heavy metal bands. We are a volunteer organization. The men who sing with us are regular guys from all professions...executives, teachers, engineers, physicians, military, skilled laborers, and more. They come from Baltimore and Washington, DC, and everywhere in between.

Soromundi is dedicated to celebrating diversity. Our song selections span generations and cultures, coming from vastly different political and religious perspectives. But when we sing, our songs all make the same statement: "We are here in all our diversity, and we are strong because of it."
Soromundi has come to be known for its political, emotional, and musical power. The gay community has long been aware that our power lies in our numbers. In singing, Soromundi affirms the strength and dignity of the lesbian community in and around Eugene. We affirm, challenge, and strengthen ourselves as well.
We hope that in every audience we can empower people and inspire them to action, even if that action is the simple but powerful choice to be themselves
When Soromundi was founded in Eugene by Karm Hagedorn in the fall of 1989, there were five members. Since then, the choir has flourished. Over the last five years especially, our numbers have steadily climbed, reaching over 75 active members last season.
The first Soul Stirrers 78 to feature Cooke, "Jesus Gave Me Water," was a major hit, and with his good looks the young singer made an instant impact with female audiences, in the process becoming the gospel circuit's first sex symbol. The group's popularity continued to soar, but as the Soul Stirrers entered their third decade, the daily grind began to wear on its members, and soon Bruster retired; he was replaced by baritone Bob King, who also doubled as a guitarist, becoming their first-ever steady instrumentalist. In 1954, the Soul Stirrers briefly added Julius Cheeks to their roster; after lending his raspy vocals to a recording of "All Right Now," however, contractual obligations forced him to exit almost as quickly as he arrived. In 1956, Cooke finally crossed over to the pop market, and was replaced by ex-Highway QC Johnnie Taylor; while Taylor himself would also enjoy pop success in the years to follow, he failed to command the same devotion as his predecessor. Lineup changes continued regularly in the years to follow, but the Soul Stirrers forged on, with new, younger members keeping the group afloat into the 1990s.

We organized as a barbershop chorus in August 1948, and were officially chartered as the Belleville Bell Notes from Belleville, Illinois, by the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quarter Singing in America (SPEBSQSA), now the Barbershop Harmony Society.
