This anthem for the Christmas season lends itself to smaller, community choirs. An original tune, RIVERWOOD, moves from unison statements-first by women's voices, then by men's-to a third verse of contrapuntal treatment by the altos and men grace by celestial "ahs" from the sopranos. Piano or organ quietly and aptly fill in the aural scene along with an optional flute.More music for small choirs
Composer: Gerald Custer
The poet Herman Stuempfle poignantly paints the Nativity story and then brings us into the picture by beckoning us to sing and give glory to the Child and to the Creator.Kathy Powell matches the mastery of the picture with beautiful, lyric lines and an accompaniment that continually sweeps heavenward- stylistic for piano or harp.An imminently magical pairing!
Composer: Kathy Powell
Kathy Powell unfailingly creates an interesting hymn-style Christmas song for SAB choir, keyboard, guitar sparkling with jazzlike ninth chords. "...Gold of consecration, incense of delight, and myrrh of consolation, by star and candlelight" will surely bring delight!Ê
Composer: Kathy Powell
A lovely little piece for voices and celesta. The accompaniment may also be played with handbells, handchimes, Orff instruments, or an electronic keyboard. Vocal score is unison, then two, then three parts.Easy and fresh.Celesta part can be played by Orff instruments, handbells, handchimes or piano
Composer: Ronald Schmoltze
Here's a wonderful incarnation of the Gloria! The refrain is relatively standard, based on the refrain from "Angels We Have Heard on High," so the assembly will have no problem singing along. But the first part of the Gloria text is wonderfully set to a chant tone for SAB voices. Finally, the last portion of the text ("For you alone are the Holy One...") is sung as a descant over the Gloria refrain!
Arranger: Rory Cooney
Scored for two and three mixed voices, with texts in Spanish and English, this carol has a distinctively Caribbean flavor and is an easy learn. With piano accompaniment and guitar chords, it could be accompanied by either or both.Ê
Arranger: Leonard Bobrowski
This single edition contains an entrance antiphon for each Sunday in Advent. With an ancient plainsong as the musical basis, the piece is highly adaptable-sing it as an a cappella chant, or with organ; use the complete harmonies on the page, or have a cantor or choir sing in unison. Or, start the season simply and build to a full complement of forces by the Fourth Sunday!
Composer: Normand J. Gouin
Set a cheerful tone for your Christmas celebrations with this lilting SAB arrangement of a delightful French carol. The baritone section alone states the melody in the first verse. The altos begin the second but are quickly joined by the baritones in a canonical treatment. The sopranos soon enter on the refrain building the intensity.Ê Verse three begins with all parts in unison but divides into a final crescendo, which heralds the awesome news of a newborn king.

The traditional 16th-century Christmas hymn "Gaudete" has been arranged by Chris de Silva for SAB voices, winds and percussion. At the center of this piece is the hymn itself surrounded by choral fanfares inviting listeners to rejoice at the birth of Christ, the Son of Mary.Percussion part is for snare drum.

This natural, eminently singable mantra, "Gift of God, O Emmanuel," has already become a traditional staple for many communities.Based on the O Antiphons and with alternate refrains, it is suitable for Advent through Christmastide. An arrangement of "Silent Night" (in G-3138) that works with "Gift of God" is well worth pairing with this attractive and useful gem by Marty Haugen.
Composer: Marty Haugen

An original text, an attractive tune, an accessible accompaniment, and a flowing obbligato line combine in this piece that calls us all to seek the Christ as the Magi did all those years ago. A beautiful addition to the repertoire for Epiphany!
Composer: Kathy Powell
A Christmas song for SAB voices that sings of how God came into a world of darkness and despair.Good 2- and 3-part choral writing with a bridge section that ventures off into totally unexpected harmonic territory.

This Baroque-style setting of the quintessential Christmas text may present a bit of a challenge to some keyboardists, but the spirit of the piece is well worth the effort! Rather than eclipse the traditional pairing of ANTIOCH and "Joy to the World," both versions could be used in the same worship service.
Composer: Glenn Wonacott
A lively, 12/8 original composition, with all the characteristics of an early English carol. The SAB writing creates a most satisfying choral sound. The setting aptly conveys the text and its call for joyful mirth.Dare we say, it's fun!Ê
Composer: Robert Edward Smith
This Christmas song from the Dameans' repertoire is here cast in an extended setting for SAB, cantor, assembly, flute, trumpet, and string quartet. It's strong refrain in F, "Glory to God for light in the darkness," alternates with solo and choral verses that gradually shift harmonically into A-flat, resolving back to F, creating a pleasing harmonic interest.
Composer: Darryl Ducote
A tender lullaby to the baby Jesus, the steadily moving waltz tempo and memorable tune make this piece equally effective whether sung in procession or as a quiet meditation. The variety of instrumental options furnishes flexibility and adds charm to this simple Polish carol. A pronunciation key for the Polish verse is included.
Arranger: Rory Cooney
Charming simplicity and delicate harmonic variety make this Christmas lullaby immediately appealing. Sung to the Christ Child, the anthem personalizes the Nativity experience for choirs and assemblies alike. Parts for C instrument and string trio are available.
Arranger: Paul A. Tate | Composer: Marc Stockert
Set for cantor, assembly, and 2-part choir, this psalm for Mass at Midnight sparkles with a bell-like quality. The lovely flute obbligato can be underscored by optional string quartet. The composer cleverly yokes this lilting, singable refrain with Psalm 118 for the Easter responsorial psalm published separately(G-6543)
Composer: Rory Cooney
William Schoenfeld captures the festive spirit of the shepherds' haste in a cherubic adaptation of Drummond's poem "The Angels' Song." In this lighthearted Christmas piece, animated flute parts and the easygoing forward motion in the piano accompaniment create a sense of pastoral buoyancy. A two-part setting for treble voices is also available, G-8487.
Composer: William M. Schoenfeld
According to the composer, "This carol is so simple that the whole assembly should be able to sing the chorus in threepart harmony." He also suggests using a trio on the verses if the piece is only sung by the choir. A welcome addition to the repertoire for Lessons and Carols or pre-service caroling!
Composer: John L. Bell
While the tune is based on a traditional Czech carol, this is one of Rory Cooney's most powerful original texts. The piece would make a stunning Communion meditation, evoking images of joy at the infant Savior's birth, while foreshadowing his sacrifice so that we might eat of the Living Bread. The piano provides support for the choral parts, but the piece may be sung a cappella; or, if circumstances allow, the use of the optional string quartet will add to the warmth expressed in the words and harmony of the singers.String Quartet or Keyboard accompaniment
