Voices and instruments share the spotlight in this gentle Christmas piece. The choral writing is primarily unison, and is suitable for children's choir, women's choir, or unison mixed choir.Harp part is optional.Ê
Composer: Richard Proulx
In the tradition of lullabies past, "Lie Still and Slumber" encompasses the soothing comfort of angelic voices with tender words like those of this text by Isaac Watt. Delicate and smooth, this piece recreates the rocking of a cradle or a mother's arms through the rhythmic sway created by the rising and falling of the arpeggiated accompaniment.
Composer: Matthew Emery
This arrangement brings in a familiar 14th-century German carol, "Joseph dearest, Joseph mild," to complete this setting, which sings of the role of St. Joseph in the birth of Christ. The freely gentle feel is enhanced by a classical guitarlike or harplike arpeggiated accompaniment. Good two-part writing, but could be sung in unison with satisfying effect.
Arranger: Anthony Giamanco
