The tune and setting of this anthem immediately recall the stateliness and comfort of an "old" hymn. Springing from Hebrews 12:1-3, the piece is quite useful for All Saints and any time of remembrance of those who have gone before us in faith. Don't be surprised if you feel a chill or are a bit overwhelmed when singing this "new old classic."
The "O" Antiphons have been prayed for over a thousand years as part of the Vespers services during the fourth week of Advent. Marty Haugen's setting (using five of the seven antiphons) is appropriate during Advent and for any occasions that focus on longing for God. The contrast of the minor and major keys expresses yearning for God's promised reign in Jesus juxtaposed with our hope that God is with us.
The text of "Be Merciful," drawn from Luke, reminds us to be merciful to others as God is merciful to us; the verses provide concrete examples. Alternate choral settings for the verses (two-part and "backup") offer some variety. The relaxed tone suggests natural use as a prelude or even at the preparation of gifts, post-Communion, or other times of reflection. Originally written for the Jubilee Year of Mercy, this song will be appropriate as long as the need for mercy remains.
A text that expresses the vast nature and inexplicable power of God's loving grace is set to a new hymn tune, the aptly named COSMOS. The melody moves fluidly and is easily memorized. A standard hymn version with four-part voicing is also included in the octavo. A great way to share the mystery of Christmas!Listen to the music and follow the score in this preview video.

Adam M. L. Tice's graceful, prophetic, and challenging text encourages us to create peace and to be thoughtful stewards of creation. We are called to "live what we believe." Moving from a unison verse to choral harmony and then to the melody with soaring descant, this fervent hymn gathers energy from beginning to end. Haugen's piece is offered both as an extended choral anthem and as a traditional hymn for assembly.Octavo contains a hymn version.

Inspired by the active nature of Adam Tice's baptismal text, Marty Haugen has written a tune that evokes the same "immediate and strong energy." This song can be used for any baptismal ritual or remembrance of baptism. Although certainly appropriate for infant baptisms, the text and tune combination in "From the Waters I Will Rise" would be especially meaningful during the baptism of youth or adults. The C instrument part is optional.
Pronounce that "gah-te." It is an ancient Sanskrit mantra chanted by Buddhists throughout the world. It is a prayer for the holy gift of peace. In its sweeping lyric, Francis' canticle combines a reverence for and delight in God's creation and simultaneously celebrates God's tender love and compassion for humanity. Pope Francis echoes this same understanding in his declaration of a Jubilee Year of Mercy and his 2015 encyclical on the environment named after St. Francis' canticle, Laudato Si. In keeping with the spirit of St. Francis, this setting is intended to be simple and easily accessible. Keep the presentation light and joyous. With a little practice an assembly can sing the verses, as well as the refrain. An alternate setting of the final verse was written to offer a change in tone for the more somber text.
This song was written for (and named after) a conference at Nu'uanu Congregational Church in Honolulu, Hawai'i, in 2003. The verses seek to connect the sweep of salvation history-Creation, Exodus, and the first Pentecost-with the continuing work of the Spirit in the world today. This simple choral arrangement allows the story to shine.

Jesus offers us a template for how we ought to live our lives. The tender melody, sung by soloists, is supported and answered by the gentle harmonies sung by the choir. The refrain is easily sung by the assembly with the choir and soloists, and the assembly could manage the verses as well.A lovely accompaniment with two C instruments, guitar, and keyboard adds to the haunting quality.
