Chris de Silva composes, arranges and records with GIA Publications, Inc. He is originally from Singapore and currently lives in Los Angeles, California. Chris shares his joy for liturgical music at national conferences, diocesan and parish retreats. Chris has ministered as music and liturgy director at several faith communities in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and currently serves on the campus ministry team at Loyola Marymount University as Associate Director of Music. He received a B.Mus. degree in Music Composition and Film Scoring from USC's Thornton School of Music and an M.A. in Pastoral Theology from Loyola Marymount University. Chris is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Candler School of Theology at Emory University. |

There are five verses when the piece is used as a gathering song-AND another set of 5 verses for the Communion procession. The traditional 16th-century Christmas hymn "Gaudete" has been arranged by Chris de Silva for SAB voices, winds and percussion. At the center of this piece is the hymn itself surrounded by choral fanfares inviting listeners to rejoice at the birth of Christ, the Son of Mary.Percussion part is for snare drum.
The energetic refrain from this rousing piece based on Matthew 28:19-20 is infectious and will have the members of your assembly- no matter their age-eager to "tell all the good news!"

Quiet simplicity, profound petition, and unending hope characterize this piece in which the refrain concludes "Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison." Composer Chris de Silva has set Psalm 95 with a voice for today, but one that will appeal to all ages. The accompaniment, which employs a C instrument, is flexible, depending on your available forces (guitar, bass and drums are recommended). Reproducible material for the congregation is included in the octavo.
This text, particularly the refrain, reminds us that all we have, all we are, is due to the power and providence of God (Acts 17:28). The piece is a great option for a reflection by a soloist or with the supporting choral parts. Either way, definitely try to include the cello, which will offer a warm, comforting sonority!

An easily singable setting of Psalm 118. Similar material is used for the psalm and for the Gospel acclamation. A part for 11 handbells is included in the octavo. Primarily for use at Easter, but appropriate for any festive occasion.
Featuring images of God calling us by name as he shows his great love for us, this edition can be used at various times throughout the year. The beautiful choral harmonies can be effectively performed by an SATB choir or by a smaller group of voices. The C instrument part may be used alone or in conjunction with the string quartet parts, bringing added texture and beauty to the piece.

A wonderful "bridge" piece of praise, "Laudamus te" celebrates and honors the traditions of different musical groups. It enables ensemble singers to experience linear, extended choral writing, while at the same time allowing the "traditional" choir to sing a simple Latin text over a piano/guitar accompaniment. The piece is rounded out by the use of strings and winds.
It's a setting of Psalm 130, composed in a funky groove, for solo singer and backup choir. A fairly extended and somewhat complex setting. Probably more ideal as a processional or closing song than a responsorial.
Appropriate for any celebration of thanksgiving to God, this bright, rhythmic setting offers many options for cantor or soloist with two- and three-part choral texture interjected into the verses and the refrain.
