Jaunty and joyous, this original psalm setting from Chris de Silva will put a smile on everyone's face. The music conveys the assurance that Jesus is reigning over all; why, therefore, wouldn't we want to shout with joy and sing "Alleluia"? The choir can hum or "oo" on the ostinato refrain while the verses are sung by a soloist. For cantor or soloist.
Composer: Chris de Silva
Chris de Silva's setting offers an alternative to settings of Psalm 98 that are more majestic. The use of flute on the C instrument part will enhance the tranquility of the laid-back melody. This is proof that a psalm of praise can be understated but still display a calm confidence in the saving power of God.For one or two cantors or soloists.

Based on Matthew 11:28-30, Chris de Silva paraphrases the words of the Savior, who invites us to turn to him when all seems hopeless. This introspective setting assures us that Jesus will give us the rest we seek.

This lengthy Advent processional comes from the repertoire of the Dameans. Though scored for piano and optional guitar, it's fairly straightforward except for a highly unusual bass line that lends the accompaniment a unique feel. Five stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn are followed by seven new verses and a coda, which sing the "O Antiphons" in a more original form. The two sections could easily be used separately, or in alternation from one to the other and back.
Arranger: Kate Cuddy | Composer: The Dameans
An Advent song with draws on Advent scriptural themes. Has a simple refrain for the assembly which is always stated first by soloist or choir. Verses are for solo, unison choir with descant, and two-part mixed voices. Moves along at a fairly gentle pace with rolling eighth-note accompaniment. For cantor or soloist

As a result of the shared wisdom of Pope Francis at a 2013 World Youth Day prayer event, Lori True reveals that Francis' "awe-inspiring instruction has prompted me to compose...for the church at prayer. 'I Send You with the Grace of My Spirit' is intended to bless us as we go forth from our gatherings as 'companions of peace,' and calls us to include the least among us as friend along the journey."
Composer: Lori True
Using a text of hope for peace (written in response to the U.S. decision to invade Iraq), this setting is at its most effective when a soloist can convey the verses clearly, while not feeling too confined by the rhythms on the page. The piece has many uses, particularly in the season of Advent, at Pentecost, or during any gathering promoting peace.Ê

Using "The Jesus Prayer" for the ostinato refrain, Browning offers this piece in the manner of the music of Taize.Several verses are available to superimpose over the ostinato. The refrain appears in a 4-part version and a 2-part version.Keyboard variations are also provided.
Arranger: Kathy McGrath | Composer: Carol Browning

This blessing from Japan is extremely useful for any congregation. The edition has a refrain in Japanese and two refrains in English (a Trinitarian blessing and an interfaith blessing). An extensive list of verses is included, from which you can choose one that is appropriate for your occasion (e.g., weddings, religious vocations, mission trips, to name just a few).Ê

Here's one of those pieces that is immediately appealing, easy to learn, but crafted to withstand time. Which is a good thing, as True's melodic setting of Murray's take on Romans 8 has many opportunities for use! It is preferred that a cantor sing the verses, unless the choir has excellent diction.Use a soloist on the verses, if desired.Ê
Arranger: Mary Howarth | Composer: Lori True
Adapted from the Jewish Sabbath service, this simple song with limited two-part harmony, uses Hebrew and English for the refrain, with English verses punctuated by the community's "Sim Shalom." It is the universal call for peace. The verses also call for peace, friendship, healing, virtue, hope, and an end to fear, war, and hate. For cantor or soloist

A bold setting of nettleton with original text calling upon us to move from the table of the Lord to the table of the world, living and doing the work of the gospel. Scored for two voices with C instrument, and soprano descant on the final stanza. Assembly sings throughout.
Arranger: Tony Alonso
The call-and-response nature of the refrain makes assembly participation about as easy as possible; the women of the choir support the assembly and the men provide a bit of easy harmony, all over a relaxed accompaniment. While not requiring an exceptionally large vocal range, the cantor should ideally have a solid low range (down to a low A) with the ability to sustain the upper D at a couple of points in the verses. For cantor or soloist.
Composer: Gary Daigle
A mostly unison song with a reggae feel that follows the textual pattern of many a reggae song - i.e., the verses each cite a particular evil followed by a plea for an end to its power over people. A strong social justice message that needs to continually be on the lips of the church. For cantor or soloist
Composer: Marty Haugen
"The Benedictus (Canticle of Zechariah) is the premier gospel canticle for morning prayer. Its use at morning prayer, combined with being Zechariah's song of thanksgiving at the birth of his son, John the Baptist, makes it especially appropriate for the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist and throughout the season of Advent. The images of justice, joy and peace in this hymn of praise make it suitable as a gathering or sending song for eucharistic celebrations throughout the liturgical year." -Tony Alonso
Composer: Tony Alonso
This ballad-like text traces the journey of Jesus and his followers; a journey that leads to the cross, and then leads on again. Mostly unison with a countermelody for the male voices on the refrain. The verses work well with solo voices or ensemble singing.
Composer: Bob Moore
Here is a great opportunity for two equal or mixed voices to express the innermost thoughts of our hearts and the desire to walk in the way of the Lord. Based on the writings and life of St. Francis of Assisi, the assembly will be eager to sing its part on the refrain.String quartet is optional
