Darmon Meader : Classic Jazz Songs Continuing our New York Voices Series, we present this hot new arrangement by Darmon Meader for the New York Voices. In the tradition of their charts, "Smack Dab in the Middle" is a slick arrangement and is full of fun and humor. The Big Band chart is also available! An excellent choice for any top-notch vocal jazz ensemble. "Bli-blip" - This quirky gem from Duke Ellington has been a staple from the jazz vocal group New York Voices for years and is an audience favorite. The tune is relatively simple and NYV member, Darmon Meader, turns it on its ear, creating a fantastic SATB arrangement. "Moonlight in Vermont" - Lush, contemporary jazz harmonies and styles define this arrangement with each vocal line featured as if they were soloists. Chord symbols are included for the accomplished jazz pianist but the realized piano part is worthy of any player. This is a swing ballad that will leave your audience breathless. Songlist: Smack Dab in the Middle, Sing, Sing, Sing, Bli-blip, Moonlight in Vermont Deke Sharon : A Cappella Jazz Standards Vol 1 This collection features five-part arrangements of your favorite jazz standards. Most are SATB plus solo, but "Autumn Leaves" is five luscious parts. Songlist: Autumn Leaves, Fever, I Could Write A Book, If I Loved You, It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), Steppin' Out With My Baby, Walkin' My Baby Back Home Marion Linton : Cole Porter A Cappella Beginning as a waltz, "I Get A Kick Out Of You," this lively Cole Porter tune goes into 4 at the bridge. Initiated by the bass, this time change provides a good vehicle for practicing four in the space of three and vice versa. The tune is short, punctuated by rhythmic shots and ends with a bang. "Let's Do It" is impossible to sing without a smile. Humor, wit, quotes as well as insect and animal sounds thrive throughout its four verses. It's a challenge but well worth the work--and talk about a crowd please! "Love For Sale" is a challenging setting for Cole Porter's cynical look at love. From a soulful alto solo, we move to an up-tempo Latin groove suggestive of life on the street. Featured again in the bridge is the alto whose message is colored by humorous comments and quotes. Rich harmonies abound and build to a dynamic ending. A vamp is used throughout "What Is This Thing Called Love" as an introduction, interlude, ending and even as accompaniment for a be-bop chorus where high women's voices bemoan the pain of love gone wrong. Soprano, as solo or section, is featured on melody throughout this chart. Songlist: I Get A Kick Out of You, Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love), Love For Sale, What Is This Thing Called Love? Paris Rutherford : Jazz Standards Paris Rutherford is a regents professor in jazz studies at the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton, Texas, where he coordinates vocal jazz studies and directs UNT Jazz Singers. Songlist: Lost In The Stars, The Very Thought of You, I Got It Bad (and That Ain't Good), Yesterdays, This Is All I Ask (Beautiful Girls Walk A Little Slower), Detour Ahead, Lost In The Stars Robert Sterling : Hoagy Carmichael - A Choral Portrait Certainly one of America's greatest songwriters with many wonderful contributions to the American Songbook. Perfect for concert groups or pop ensembles, this is an arrangement will become a staple in your repertoire. "I Wish You Love" features two special soloists in this stunning a cappella arrangement that will work equally well for a large concert choir of smaller jazz or pop ensemble. Smooth legato lines and rich harmonies will create a breathtaking moment in performance! "Skylark" - Display beauty of tone and the deep emotion inherent in the lyrics of this contemporary a cappella setting of the Hoagy Carmichael/Johhny Mercer standard. Challenging, but impressive! "Last Night When We Were Young" - The splendor of falling in love is perfectly rendered in this stunning ballad that will create a moment of sheer breathtaking beauty in concert. This challenging setting explores the full palette of harmony and offers interesting contrasts in dynamics and texture. Songlist: My Funny Valentine, Unchained Melody, I Wish You Love, Skylark Various Arrangers : Irving Berlin A Cappella Without doubt Irving Berlin was one of America's greatest songwriter and his music will be performed for generations to come. His songs lend themselves well to harmony arrangements and here are some of his greatest songs arranged by some of the best in the business. The impeccable Mattson touch is clearly evident in this warm a cappella setting of "Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep". Full harmonies envelop the listener in a rich blanket of sound and the lyrics flow expressively and naturally in a simple but meaningful way. Varied choral textures and luscious harmonies make "How Deep is the Ocean?" an ideal selection for a cappella vocal groups. Ultimately romantic! "They Say It's Wonderful" will work equally well for a large concert group or a smaller ensemble such as a show or jazz choir. Smooth a cappella vocal lines and expressive jazz textures will create a special moment in your concert! Songlist: How Deep is the Ocean?, Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep, I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm, What'll I Do?, How Deep is the Ocean?, They Say It's Wonderful Ward Swingle : Swingle Standards This wonderful Neal Hefti composition, "Li'l Darlin," was written for the Count Basie band. Master word-spinner Jon Hendricks has added some lovely, romantic lyrics. This 8-voice SSAATTBB a cappella treatment of "I Get A Kick Out You" is one of Cole Porter's best loved songs. Some of the scat is in homage to the Double Six of Paris. "Love Walks In" lies in the great pantheon of Gershwin songs. Ward Swingle made a rather easy SATB arrangement dedicated to Cole Tyrell and his fine South Haven (Michigan) High School Choir. This is an 8-voice SSAATTBB a cappella version of the well-known Cole Porter standard. Songlist: Love Walked In, I Get A Kick Out of You, Li'l Darlin |
