The song has since become the representative song of Warner Bros. and was also the title and theme song of the 1990s British romantic comedy series As Time Goes By. The AFI listed it among its "top 100" movie songs. There are two versions of every song on the CDs: a full-performance track with sound-alike vocals for listening and learning, and a professional-quality backing track for singing along. When the CDs are played on a Mac or Windows-based computer, the TNT (Tone 'N' Tempo) Changer lets you customize the key and tempo of each track to suit your voice and style. (The key changer modifies audio playback via computer only. The sheet music remains in its original key.) BSU, a celebrated quartet formed in 1974 and winners of the 1978 SPEBSQSA Championship, has produced a treasure. A retrospective of their entire career, the collection includes barbershop favorites such as "Coney Island Baby" and "How Ya Gonna Keep 'em Down on the Farm." the songs from Broadway's "The Music Man" that comprised their third recording, Gershwin classics such as "Our Love is Here to Stay" and "I've Got a Crush on You," and so much more! In addition, BSU has provided extensive liner notes that explain the group history and philosophy, and reveal the musical intelligence and knowledge that is evident in their work. Another bonus is the superior quality of the recording itself, which adds to the enjoyment. Highly recommended. Songlist: I Told Them All About You Dear (Medley), I've Found My Sweetheart Sally, When It's Darkness On The Delta, Meet Me In Rosetime Rose, Midnight Rose, Girls Medley, The Auctioneer, Eyes Medley, Just One Of Those Things, This Little Piggy, Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone, It's Not Where You Start/ Rose Colored Glasses Medley, Hi Neighbor, The Old Songs Medley, Biff The Friendly Purple Bear, Java Jive, The Chordbusters' March, I'm Confessin' That I Love You, Sixteen Tons, Here's To The Winners, My Honey's Lovin' Arms, The Bluegrass Gospel Medley, The Wells Fargo Wagon, Iowa Stubborn, Ya Got Trouble, Good Night My Someone, Marian The Librarian, Pick-A-Little-Talk-Little and Good Night Ladies, Shipoopi, The Sadder but Wiser Girl, and more Cantabile - The London Quartet : Tribute To Hollywood One of the UK's finest vocal groups, Bill, Paul, Mark and Michael of Cantabile, The London Quartet, have a unique and unmistakable sound and a reputation for originality and humor. Although the group was founded as a purely a cappella student group, the sixteen cuts of "A Tribute to Hollywood" are mostly accompanied, with the exception of two tunes, Harold Arlen's "Over the Rainbow" and the theme from the Streisand/Redford classic "The Way We Were." "As Time Goes By" and Stephen Sondheim's "Sooner or Later" are piano accompanied; and Herman Hupfeld's "Take My Breath Away" is accompanied by guitar. "Up Where We Belong," Sondheim/Bernstein's "Gee, Officer Krupke" from "West Side Story," the Gershwins' "I Got Rhythm," "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid," and the classic "Lullaby of Broadway" are all orchestrally accompanied. That aside, we loved this dynamic, entertaining collection, with plenty of the sweet leads and harmonies, humor, eclecticism and big fun of Cantabile! Songlist: Up Where We Belong, As Time Goes By, Everybody's Talkin', Take My Breath Away, Evergreen, I Just Called To Say I Love You, 'Round Midnight, Iko Iko, Over The Rainbow, Gee, Officer Krupke, Cavatina, I Got Rhythm, Sooner or Later, Under The sea, The Way We Were, Lullaby of Broadway Dinning Sisters : Almost Sweet And Gentle When we think of "sister" groups, the Boswells in the 30s, Andrews in the 40s and McGuires in the 50s are the best known, but of all the others the Dinnings were the next best-known and loved. Farmer and Mrs. John Dinning of Wichita, OK, raised 9 children, all but one of which went into a music career. Twins Jean and Ginger and older sister Lou began their career in 1935 performing with brother Ace's orchestra, and continued in one form or another up into the 1960s. Their biggest hit was "Buttons and Bows" from the Bob Hope and Jane Russell movie "Paleface." Buddy Clark, Perry Como, Kate Smith, Ozzie Nelson, Tennessee Ernie Ford and many others appeared with or recorded with the girls. This is a 2-CD set, and prolific is not a strong enough word: 24 hits on the first disc and 28 on the second (all big band accompanied). It's fascinating to listen to the Sisters turn a chestnut like "Sentimental Gentleman From Georgia" into their own love story, or apply their bright, cheery, sexy sound to might-have-been hits like "Lolita Lopez" and "Love On A Greyhound Bus." On every level the Dinnings deliver sheer entertainment with the best of them, and the hits just keep on coming - highly recommended! Songlist: DISC ONE, (He's Just A) Sentimental Gentleman From Georgia, Beg Your Pardon, Harlem Sandman, Buttons And Bows, Where Or When - Version One, Aunt Hagar's Childern Blues, I Love My Love, Please Don't Talk about Me When I'm Gone, Brazil, Lolita Lopez, Your A Character, Dear, Love On A Greyhound Bus, My Adobe Hacienda, San Antonio Rose, Oh Mohah, Do You Love Me?, Fun And Fancy Free, The Iggity Song, The Bride And The Groom Polka, Wave To Me My Lady, Years And Years Ago, Melancholy, The Way You Look Tonight, If I Had My Life To Live Over, DISC TWO, They Just Chopped Down The Old Apple Tree, A Pretty Girl Milking Her Cow, Pig Foot Pete, Down In The Diving Bell, and more Gem City Chorus : From The Heart Gem City won the Sweet Adelines Internationals in the Chorus Category an unprecedented five times! How did they do it? Great material, enthusiastically performed and dynamically arranged! Makes it sound simple, doesn't it? Directed by Jean Barford, this Dayton Ohio aggregate's sound is as unified as can be, its articulation crisp, timing right on the money. "As Time Goes By" is swung a little faster than average, "How's Every Little Thing In Dixie" exaggerates the phrasing effectively, hurrying through the tune like the March Hare. Other great songs: "Mississippi Medley," "The Joint Is Jumpin'," and "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing Medley." Songlist: This Is The Moment, Showtime, Sentimental Journey, Runnin' Wild, End Of The Road, Billy-A-Dick, As Time Goes By, How's Every Little Thing In Dixie, God Bless America, Battle Hymn Of The Republic, Blow, Gabriel, Blow, The Joint Is Jumpin', Heartaches, Alabama Jubilee Bound Medley, That's What God Made Mothers For, One Of Those Songs, Mississippi Medley, Wild Beneath My Wings, It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) High Society : Celebrating High Society - A Musical Journey Legendary foursome High Society's (Connie Noble, Kim Hulbert, Sandy Shelver and Pat Vozza) being named Sweet Adelines International Quartet Champions in 1976 led to a long, wonderful career, with concerts all over North America, a USO Tour and four top-selling albums, "High Society," "On the Road Again," "By Design" and "Fascinatin'." For all their loyal fans over the years, and for those who have never had the chance to savor the buttery harmonies, sweet leads and ringing, hairs-on-the-back-of-your-neck-tingling held chords of one of Sweet Adelines' all-time great champions, we would highly recommend "Celebrating High Society." A 2-CD collection of 51 tunes, "Celebrating" leaves none of the good stuff out, including every song on their four best-selling albums! All of our favorites, "Take Me to the Land of Jazz," "Get Happy," "Top Hat Medley," "Jump Shout Boogie," "Tin Roof Boogie," "Java Jive," "In My Life," "Crazy," "Fred Astaire Medley," "Lazy River," "Lullaby of Birdland"... they're all here. Treat yourself to a tasty banquet of very Sweet Adelines! Songlist: Tree In The Meadow, Take Me To The Land Of Jazz, Jazz Baby, As Time Goes By, Jazz Came Up The River, I'll Always Be In Love With You, Someone To Watch Over Me, There's No Business Like Show Business, Didn't We, Get Happy, That Old Feeling, 42nd Street, Top Hat Medley, On the Road Again, How Could You Believe Me Medley, Everything Old Is New Again, Thank You World, Weekend In New England, I Don't Want To Walk Without You, Jump Shout Boogie, God Bless America, Here's To The Winners, I Got Rhythm Medley, Church Bells Are Ringing For Mary, Tin Roof Blues, London By Night, The Secret Of Christmas, Joshua Medley, On The Road Again, A Little Bit Of Happiness, and more Mike Sammes Singers : It Had To Be You Rivals only to the, perhaps more famous, but not necessarily more talented Cliff Adams Singers they were the group most likely to get the call when Pop aristocracy went into the studio. Adored by millions of listeners all over the world The Mike Sammes Singers kept their other more "hip" credentials fairly well hidden. Yes, incredibly it is them you can hear on "I Am The Walrus" and yes it certainly is them you can hear behind Ringo as they back him on one of The Beatles most beautiful songs, the John Lennon penned "Goodnight", the last track on the stunning White Album. Songlist: I've Heard That Song Before, Last of the Summer Wine, You are My Heart's Delight, I'm Comin' Home, Remember, The Mayfair Ladies' Quartet, I've Told Ev'ry Little Star, Humming Bird, As Time Goes By, We'll Meet Again, It Had to Be You, All the Things You Are, You and I, All Alone, If You Were the Only Girl in the World, Laughter in the Rain, What'll I Do?, So in Love with You, Once in a While, Strollin', Ta-Ra The Norman Luboff Choir : Ticket To The Movies Here are 19 songs, all from the movies, all arranged and conducted by Norman Luboff, A true musical eclectic, Luboff was driven to render every piece with a painstaking exactitude and an arrangement that immediately defined it as a Luboff performance. His choir toured annually from from 1963 until Luboff's death in 1987, and recorded more than 75 albums. This perfectionism is clear on every cut of every Luboff album, of which four, from 1961-65, are represented here. "All the Things You Are," "It Had to Be You," "As Time Goes By" (which Sam played again in "Casablanca," but actually was from the 1931 musical "Everybody's Welcome"), the title tunes from "My Foolish Heart," "Days of Wine and Roses," "High Noon," "On Green Dolphin Street," "An Affair to Remember," "Ruby" (from "Ruby Gentry") and "Laura," the lovely "Unchained Melody," "I'll Get By," "The Song from Moulin Rouge" ("Where is Your Heart"), and Irving Berlin's wonderful "Remember." Luboff is an American master, and his choir is one of the most powerful vocal groups of all time. Sure, all songs are gently accompanied, but the focus is on the smooth-as-maple syrup harmonies. These songs unabashedly tug at our heartstrings and push every romantic and sentimental button, and all we can say is, "highly recommended!" Songlist: All the Things You Are, My Foolish Heart, High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me), An Affair to Remember, Darling My Darling, As Time Goes By, Days of Wine and Roses, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo, Younger than Springtime, It's Magic, On Green Dolphin Street, It Had To Be You, Ruby, Stella By Starlight, I'll See You Again, Unchained Melody, Laura, I'll Get By (As Long As I Have You), The Song from "Moulin Rouge" (Where Is Your Heart?), Remember The Real Group : Debut This album is the first by The Real Group (recorded in 1987) as you might suspect from the title. It was recorded with two microphones straight to a two-track tape deck with no mix down. Amazing! They are already so good you won't realize that fact by the most critical listening. What dynamic balance! The original release was a vinyl edition of 2500. In 1995 that early recording was rereleased on cd and given the appropriate title, Debut. Of the thirteen tunes, three are sung in Swedish, while the rest are the types of familiar covers that we've come to expect, "All Of Me," "Misty," "Li'l Darlin'," "Night And Day," "As Time Goes By," "My Romance" and "Who Put The Bomp," among others. It's a must for anyone who is following the career of this extraordinary group. Songlist: All of Me, Misty, Joy Spring, Coffee Calls For A Cigarette, Medgon Knsliga Fr Grnt, Blues For Alice, Li'l Darlin, Night and Day, As Time Goes By, Båtlåt, My Romance, Vårsång, Who Put The Bomp (In The Bomp Ba Bomp Ba Bomp) The Suntones : Masterwork Series Miami, Florida's Suntones, formed in 1957 singing innovative arrangements of "Old Black Magic" and Hi-Lo's songs, finally won SPEBSQSA Quartet Gold in 1961. They went on to record extensively and seek professional bookings outside of barbershop circles, causing them to perfect their act, and helping to create a world of possibilities for top-drawer barbershop groups in the entertainment industry. "Suntones" is a "best-of" collection of 23 songs, certainly tough choices given the large number of excellent recordings by the group. From the first cut, "Bye, Bye Blues," the final tune in their Gold-winning set that became a trademark for them, we see how special this group is. "After You've Gone," which begins straight, introduces a major 7th chord, jazzy 2nd chorus and wild and crazy tag. "If You Can't Tell the World She's A Good Little Girl," "Old Songs Medley" showed that even though they tended toward daring innovations, they never lost their love of the simple, "square" barbershop songs. "Danny Boy," "That Old Black Magic," "West Side Story Medley," "Jezebel," "Where Is Love," "Show Me Where The Good Times Are," "Tennessee Waltz," "Shrimp Boats" and "For All We Know" need to be listened to again and again to appreciate the chances the Suntones took, and how solid the barbershop fundamentals were that formed their base. "Suntones" is an amazing recording on many levels, and certainly mandatory listening for aspiring quartets to expand their horizons. Songlist: Bye Bye Blues, Emaline, After You've Gone, If You Can't Tell The World She's A God Little Girl, Old Songs Medley, Danny Boy, No, No, Nora, Finian's Rainbow Medley, That Old Black Magic, A Little Street Where Old Friends Meet, West Side Story Medley, It's A Most Unusual Day, Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring, Jezbel, Where Is Love?, Watch What Happens, As Time Goes By, Two Guy Medley, Show Me Where The Good Times Are, Tennessee Waltz, Shrimp Boats, Armed Forces Medley, For All We Know Vocal Majority : I'll Be Seeing You A diverse recording of great forties and fifties pop tunes ("My Funny Valentine," "Stormy Weather," "As Time Goes By"). Features a Puerling arrangement of "Stardust" and a beautiful "Where is Love." Some cuts include jazz band accompaniment; others include quartet cameos (Dealer's Choice, Acoustix) and two include a female soloist. Songlist: No Arms Can Ever Hold You (Like These Arms Of Mine), My Funny Valentine, Graduation Day/ It's A Blue World Medley, Stormy Weather, You'll Never Know, Where Is Love?, As Time Goes By, The Masquerade Is Over, Stardust, Mack The Knife, I'll Be Seeing You |
