The two men and two women of Binghamton, NY-based Sound Celebration are members of the Mixed Harmony Barbershop Quartet Association and have been ringing chords for three and a half years. Besides barbershop, their repertoire includes country, blues, folk, spiritual, modern harmonies and doo-wop. A highlight of 2002 was a second-place finish in the Buckeye Invitational Mixed Quartet Contest in Columbus, Ohio, and in 2003 they won it all! In this, SC's first CD we hear 13 great barbershop tunes: the title tune, "Basin Street Blues, "Home on the Range," "Anytime," "I Can Dream, Can't I?," "Lullabye in Ragtime," "You Needed Me," "The Glory of Love," "I Wish You Love," "In The Still of the Night," the Gershwins' classic "Summertime," "What A Wonderful World" and "Gospel Medley." We like the whole idea of mixed barbershop groups and competitions, and SC is one of the great ones, singing with spirit and joy in the music; bending and ringing a barbershop chord with the best of them! |
