Walton Music was established in 1950 by Norman Luboff as a publishing house for Luboff's choral arrangements and compositions. Today, Walton serves the choral community by publishing works by noted composers such as Eric Whitacre and Ola Gjeilo, and promoting both new composition and the preservation of classics. Gunilla Luboff (spouse of the late Norman Luboff) worked for many years as the owner and editor of Walton Music. During Gunilla's tenure, she maintained and expanded the Walton catalog, helping it to become one of the leading choral catalogs in the United States and a well-respected catalog across the world. Originally from Sweden, Gunilla helped to establish Walton as a champion of Scandinavian choral music, making Scandinavian works more readily available in the United States.

Hopsa! Lisella!, an 18th century Alsatian folk song, quite literally sways back and forth as it is sung. The feeling of acceleration typical of 18th century song is captured through ritards, accelerandos and tempo changes at the beginning of each verse. Add tambourine and triangle to enhance the French character of the song. In two parts, this accessible setting will work nicely with any treble group. Duration: ca. 3:05

Joy is taken from the three-song set by Thomas Juneau, The Song Maker. This exhuberant work captures the euphoria one feels at the joy of being loved. A rhythmic, yet unhurried, piano accompaniment enhances beautiful and soaring vocal lines. Will work well for young treble choirs, but is sophisticated enough to work for all levels.

Widely adaptable to school and church functions, this wonderful setting of an African-American spiritual features simple vocal lines and handbell parts and a strong piano part. Incorporates call and response between vocal parts, and with its references to Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, this would be excellent for Black History Month concerts. Uplifting and energetic for elementary school on up.

A Hebrew prayer traditionally said on Fridays upon returning from the synagogue. Depicts the dialog between an evil angel and a good angel and is in a broader sense a plea for peace - let it begin with you.
