When Fred Bock left Word Music to strike out on his own in 1968, he decided to name his new company after one of the streets on which his apartment building was located: Gentry Street inspired Gentry Publications. Such was the beginning of what would prove to be a legendary career. He chose wisely, for the other street would have derailed his publishing fate before it even began: Klump Avenue. From the beginning Gentry was an imprint designed for the school market – specifically those higher-end High School, College and University choirs. Gentry Publications continues its long tradition of publishing choral music from some of the finest American composers, arrangers, editors and conductors.

This traditional song from Puerto Rico, spiritedly arranged by Cristian Grases, is usually sung at Christmas time. A group of singers would knock on the door of a neighbor or friend's house and ask them to open the door so that they can come in and celebrate together! The tuneful melody and playful syllables embody the joy of the local culture. Excellent for high school and college treble choruses.

Selected for the William Powell Choral series, this encouraging choral contains both inspirational words and music by Gwen McLeod Hall. It is a message of hope, where singing serves as the disarming weapon of choice. For high school and college treble choirs, the music swells in celebration to a victorious conclusion. Medium.

Simón Bolívar, a giant figure in the history of Latin America, dedicated a special place in his upbringing to Hipólita, a humble slave who was Bolívar's wet nurse and mother figure. Venezuelan poet laureate Andrés Eloy Blanco captures a confrontational scene between Hipólita and Bolívar's mother. Venezuelan conductor and composer Maibel Troia translates the intensity of the moment in a highly rhythmic and dramatic composition that combines accented repeating melodies with chromatic harmonies, building towards a climatic finale. Gentry Publications is pleased to present one of the jewels of the 20th century Venezuelan choral repertoire.
