Eugene Field's poetry is full of fanciful imagery of trolls and elves toiling in caverns deep in the forest. David Poole depicts these creatures with angular, chromatic lines that portray the quirkiness of the impish laborers. His use of constant eighth notes paints the relentless, perpetual comings and goings of the trolls. Duration: 2:20.

Capturing the excitement and enthusiasm of the three intrepid seafarers heading out into the wind and waves for some moonlit fishing, Benjamin Kornelis has set this famous children's poem. The text will offer many opportunities to work on crisp, clear diction. The refrain is different than the verses so form can be explored. And there are multiple key changes making modulation another musical concept to explore. Duration: ca. 3:00.
