This rollicking Newfoundland folk song in sea shanty style is scored for Unison Treble voices, fiddle, spoons and piano. The text tells the story of the economic effects of an especially high sea which flooded the village. The arrangement proceeds through several keys - rising just as the water did - until the final sense of determination to set off for a better life if the conditions didn't improve.
Arranger: Lori-Anne Dolloff
A lilting, dance-like unison song first published in 1902 that uses word painting devices to represent bird calls and piping sounds. The melismatic passages vocalized on the syllable ah contrast with the predominantly syllabic style. A delightful selection for developing treble choirs. Taken from WE WILL SING! Duration: ca. 2:00.
Arranger: Henry Carey

By the Sea tells a story which begins quite serenely, and becomes turbulent with the arrival of the tide (which brings with it the minor mode). The unison chorus must sing as one story-teller, regaling the audience in earnest, relaxing only with the arrival of the solid town. Duration: ca. 2:08.

David Brunner, known for his beautiful melodies and wonderful accompaniments, has set seven tiny unison pieces using haiku text. Each of the seven is about seasons and form a set. They are glimpses, sparse, yet fully there, like haiku.

This set contains three songs about the delightful world of very young people and their dreams, fantasies and sojourns into nature. The Moon is a story of the moon being worn by the person asking the question - obviously a young person. Butterfly, Butterfly again raises the question of where one is being led. You and I takes us on a journey into a kind of paradise - a very personal one - just you and I. Duration: ca. 6:00.
Arranger: Walter Buczynski
Written for the composer's first grandchild, this song is one of remembrance, fondly recalling the joys of family life and home. It is to be sung simply and with tenderness, like a lullaby. Along with the opportunity to introduce this Scottish melody to your singers, there is also the pleasure of singing in the wonderful Celtic dialect.
