The rich flowing harmonies, and clever voice leading provide a nice challenge for an intermediate jazz choir. A must have in your Ward Swingle Collection! Songlist: Fugue in D Minor (Art of the Fugue), Aria Suite in D Major, Largo, Prelude No. 22 Will Todd : Brightest and BestReview: This setting of the famous hymn words by Reginald Heber, a particularly suitable text for Epiphany, was written in memory of Benjamin Hutto, Director of Music at St John's, LaFayette Square, Washington DC. It received its premiere during the churches bicentennial year in March 2016. Todd's characteristic close harmonies and memorable melodies pervade this attractive carol, which is highly approachable for intermediate choirs. A tender unison treatment of the first verse leads to four-part harmony and a descant in successive verses, followed by a large climax, key change and introduction of an optional organ part for the final verse, before a calm, meditative ending. All this combines to create a showstopper of a carol which will delight audiences and congregations. Will Todd : Jazz Missa BrevisReview: Will Todd's Jazz Missa Brevis gives new life to the sung Latin Mass texts in an accessible, short setting which embraces a variety of jazz styles, from the swinging jazz waltz Kyrie to the up-beat Latin-groove Gloria. The smooth jazz ballad Sanctus, 7/8 Benedictus and soulful Agnus Dei complete this inspiring Mass setting. Underpinned by Todd's characteristic jazz harmonies and melodic craftsmanship, it is suitable for performance both liturgically and as part of a concert by mixed choirs of all abilities. The work can be accompanied by piano alone (as written or extemporised), jazz trio (piano, bass and drums) or jazz ensemble (alto saxophone, 2 trumpets and jazz trio - parts available separately). Will Todd : Mass in BlueReview: Will Todd's Mass in Blue is a dynamic, uplifting, and highly popular jazz setting of the Latin mass. The work features driving grooves and blues harmonies, with provision for short piano solos (notated or improvised) and great moments of musical interplay between soprano soloist and choir. Itas a worthy centre-piece for any concert. For this edition the composer has revised the work, making it more widely accessible. Will Todd : Songs of PeaceReview: Written in memory of the composer's mother, Will Todd's Songs of Peace is a six-movement work about love and loss. Two of the movements are scored for upper voices. Although it is not a conventional Requiem, it might be appropriate in a memorial context, butshould by no means be confined to it: in many ways it is a very 'life-affirming' work, characterised by Todds recognisable jazz-infused harmonic language, memorable melodies, and powerful and personal texts. Songs of Peace is designed as a work which may be performed complete, as separate movements (two of which are scored for upper voices) or as a selection. It can be accompanied by piano alone (as written, embellished or extemporised - chord symbols are supplied where appropriate) or jazz trio William Byrd : Collection Vol 2Review: The greatest English composer of his generation, comparable in stature to his most distinguished continental contemporaries, William Byrd was a versatile composer. Byrd's compositions for the church may be separated into those for the Catholic liturgy and those designed for the officially recognised Church of England. The first category includes settings of the Mass for three, four and five voices, and a large quantity of other works for the various seasons of the church year. Well-known for his keyboard works here are a collection of his a cappella arrangements that have has been sung in English cathedrals uninterrupted for the past four centuries. For SATB choir. Songlist: O Magnum Mysterium, Prevent Us, O Lord, Rorate Caeli Desuper, Ave Verum Corpus, Exsurge Domine William Byrd : Five Sacred Choral WorksReview: William Byrd (c.1540-1623) is one of the giants of the English Renaissance, composing sacred polyphony for both Anglican and Catholic rites. This collection provides well-edited, clean editions at an excellent value, and includes: Exsurge, Domine; Haec Dies; Laudibus in sanctis; Praise Our Lord, All Ye Gentiles; Sing Joyfully. Songlist: Sing Joyfully, Exsurge, Domine, Haec, Dies, Laudibus In Sanctis, Praise Our Lord, All Ye Gentiles William Byrd : Four Motets for All SaintsReview: William Byrd's Mass Proper for the feast of All Saints is beautifully arranged for unaccompanied mixed voices by Sally Dunkly. Songlist: Mass Of Propers For The Feast Of Old Saints, Introit, Gradual & Alleluia, Offertory, Communion William Byrd : Mass for Four VoicesReview: This publication of William Byrd's Mass for Four Voices by Dean Witte expands on Henry Washington's celebrated 1959 performer's edition. It features judiciously updated notation and text underlay that helps clarify many matters of interpretation and also conforms with more recent practices in editing early music. This edition otherwise preserves the essential practical focus introduced by Washington, including the step-downward transposition of the music. William L. Dawson : A Cappella Tuskegee Choral Series for Mixed ChoirsReview: William Levi Dawson, born in 1899, was educated at Tuskegee Institute, the Horner Institute of Fine Arts, and the American Conservatory, and wrote his own "Dawson's Negro Folk Symphony" in 1934. He began publishing and recording his arrangements of traditional African-American spirituals in 1955 and they are now considered to be some of the finest examples of the genre. Here are a selection of his finest works for unaccompanied mixed voices. Recommended! Dawson : Accompanied Tuskegee Choral Series for Mixed ChoirsReview: Here are a selection of his works with piano accompaniment. When they are as good as this we have to forgo our a cappella only policy! Songlist: I Wan To Be Ready, Out In The Fields, Feed-A My Sheep, Slumber Song, You Got To Reap Just What You Sow William L. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Litany in B-flat Major - Glory, Praise, and Power, K. 125Review: A choral worship cantata for SATB with SATB Soli composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Mass in C minorReview: Mozart's mass was first performed in Salzburg in October 1783, with Mozart's wife, Constanze, singing the soprano solos. For this edition, Richard Maunder has completed the orchestration of the two Credo movements and reconstructed the Sanctus and 'Osanna', taking full account of Mozart's division of the voices into two choirs. The vocal score includes an orchestral reduction for rehearsal purposes, and details of original sources and editorial practice may be found in the full score. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Missa Brevis in C Major, K. 259Review: A Choral Worship Cantata in SATB with SATB Soli voicing, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Missa Brevis in D K.194Review: Mozart's Missa Brevis was written in 1774 and is divided into six short movements, corresponding to the standard sections of the Mass. Richard Maunder has provided appropriate plainsong intonations for the Gloria and Credo, as well as a playable keyboard reduction, and the work's scoring-for SATB soloists, SATB chorus, and chamber ensemble-and overall compactness make it ideal for performance in a liturgical context as well as in the concert hall. Songlist: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Missa Brevis in D Major, K. 194Review: Written in Salzburg, when Mozart was just 18 years of age, this short mass in D Major expresses the depth of Mozartis faith as well as a measure of youthful joy. This score presents the choral portion of the work in Latin, with each voice on a separate staff, including solos and a piano reduction of the orchestral portion for accompaniment or rehearsal. 32 pages. Includes: Kyrie * Gloria * Credo * Sanctus * Benedictus * Agnus Dei. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Missa Brevis, K. 192Review: A Choral Worship Cantata in SATB with SATB Soli voicing, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Missa Solemnis in C Major, K. 337Review: A Choral Worship Cantata in SATB with SATB Soli voicing, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Regina Coeli, K. 276Review: A bright, joyful work, Regina Coeli, K. 276, is the last of three settings of this text by Mozart. Regina Coeli is Latin for "Rejoice, Queen of Heaven," and this antiphon in honor of the Virgin Mary is traditionally sung from Easter Sunday through the Saturday before Pentecost. This score presents the choral portion of the work in Latin, with each voice on a separate staff, including solos and a piano reduction of the orchestral portion for accompaniment or rehearsal. 16 pages. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : RequiemReview: This edition of Mozart's final work, the Requiem, starts afresh from Mozart's incomplete score, omitting the continuations and orchestrations by Joseph Eybler and Franz Xaver Süssmayr, who were engaged by Mozart's widow, Constanze, to complete the setting. The orchestration has been reworked throughout by Richard Maunder, and the 'Lacrymosa' has been given a new continuation. Süssmayr's Sanctus and Benedictus movements have been included as an appendix. The vocal score includes an orchestral reduction for rehearsal purposes, and full details of editorial emendations and additions can be found in the full score. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : RequiemReview: Masterpiece of vocal composition, among the most recorded and performed works in the repertoire. Breitkopf & Härtel edition. 112 pgs. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : RequiemReview: A masterpiece of vocal composition, Mozart's final work majestically combines the voices of orchestra, chorus, and four soloists into a deeply moving, elegiac work of glowing intensity. This miniature score version offers a conveniently sized version of one of the most recorded and performed standards of the repertoire. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : RequiemReview: Commissioned with an anonymous letter delivered by an unknown messenger, Mozart's Requiem has haunted audiences and fueled myths for centuries. Legends recount the composer's premonitions of his untimely death amid his feverish attempts to complete the Requiem. A work of emotional power and dark fury, it evokes the pathos and injustice of dying young. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Requiem Mass, K. 626Review: Mozartis Requiem Mass in D Minor, K.626, as we now have it, is actually the work of several composers since Mozart died before its completion. It is especially puzzling because of the uncertainty of its origins. This choral score contains the choir and soloist parts, with a piano reduction of the orchestral parts. The text is in Latin, and the Table of Contents lists the 12 sections and adds the text of each of them in the description. Includes: Requiem * Dies Irae * Tuba Mirum * Rex Tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis *Lacrymosa * Domine Jesu * Hostias * Sanctus * Benedictus * Agnus Dei. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Six MassesReview: Includes "Coronation Mass," K. 317, Mass in C Minor, K. 427, "Missa Brevis," K. 192 and three more. Breitkopf and Härtel edition. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Two Tantum Ergos, K. 142 K. 197Review: A choral worship collection for SATB with Orchestra accompaniment, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Veni Sancte Spiritus, K. 47Review: It is believed that Mozart wrote the "Veni Sancte Spiritus" before he was 12 years of age, around 1768 or 1769. Latin text, 12 pages, with piano accompaniment. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Vesperae de Dominica, K. 321Review: A Choral Worship Cantata in SATB with SATB Soli voicing, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Vesperae Solennes de Confessore (K. 339)Review: These Vespers, or Evening Prayers, K. 339, were written by Mozart in 1780, presumably in honor of St. Rupert and/or St. Virgil, patron saints of the Salzburg, Austria region. 88 pages. Originally published by Belwin Mills, this choral score, in Latin, contains the voice parts on separate lines over a piano reduction of the orchestral score. Includes: Dixit Dominus * Confitebor * Beatus Vir * Laudate Pueri * Laudate Dominum * Magnificat. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Vesperae solennes de Confessore, K. 339Review: Prepared from the composer's original manuscript by the distinguished Mozart scholar, Richard Maunder, this is the first modern Urtext edition of Mozart's Vesperae solennes de confessore K339. |
