Composer Richardson has chosen two poems by Robert Louis Stevenson from his set of six A Child's Garden of Verses. The first, Escape at Bedtime conveys the sense of wonder experienced by a child looking up from his bedroom window at a universe of stars. In the second piece in this set of two, Rain, the composer creates an aural rainstorm that will be fun for your singers as they experience this vivid, musical word painting. Duration: ca. 4 minutes 10 seconds.
Arranger: Harry Richardson
This rollicking Newfoundland folk song in sea shanty style is scored for Unison Treble voices, fiddle, spoons and piano. The text tells the story of the economic effects of an especially high sea which flooded the village. The arrangement proceeds through several keys - rising just as the water did - until the final sense of determination to set off for a better life if the conditions didn't improve.
Arranger: Lori-Anne Dolloff
There's a certain sense of frustration, yet hopefulness in this song. If only we could find the right melody, the right drum beat, to invent a song to end all war. What notes? What lyrics? Sing this simple ballad with sincerity and an open heart; sing as though your words can make a difference.
Composer: David L. Brunner
A lilting, dance-like unison song first published in 1902 that uses word painting devices to represent bird calls and piping sounds. Can You Imagine? was written in response to the war in Afghanistan and to the many civilians, especially children, who become displaced persons.
