Review: James Erb's classic arrangement of the American folk song "Shenandoah" has taken its rightful place in our contemporary choral literature. Now James gives us a wonderful, richly scored setting for men. Seriously consider this for your men's ensemble on your next concert. It's a winner! Review: The Lost Birds is a musical memorial to bird species driven to extinction by humankind. Sweeping and elegaic, it's a haunting tribute to those soaring flocks that once filled our skies, but whose songs have since been silenced. It's a celebration of their feathered beauty: their symbolism as messengers of hope, peace, and renewal. But it's also a warning about our own tenuous existence on the planet: that the fate that befell those once soaring flocks foreshadows our own extinction.
Songlist: Intermezzo, There Will Come Soft Rains, Flocks A Mile Wide, Bird Raptures, A Hundred Thousand Birds, Thus In The Winter, In the End
Review: Commissioned by the Hickory NC Choral Society for their 35th anniversary season. Scored for mixed choir with solos for boy soprano and/or mezzo-soprano, soprano and tenor, the instrumentation is available for large orchestra or chamber ensemble. Combining both liturgical and non-liturgical texts, in some cases the traditional texts are slightly re-arranged for contextual emphasis. This powerful five movement work projects a wide range of meaningful expression from a biting essay on the vanity and pain of existence, to a plea for mercy, and a celebration of eternal light. The work stands alone - but would be especially moving for all saints, Good Friday, or even Palm Sunday.

Review: Tenebrae is a deeply symbolic, curated service designed to lead your congregation through the final hours of Christ's life on earth. Based on the ancient Tenebrae, the gradual extinguishing of candles produces increased shadows and ultimately darkness by the end of the service, symbolizing Christ's death. With the inclusion of the optional Lord's Supper, this is a complete 60-minute service that includes three choral anthems, instrumental duets, litanies, underscores, and full worship leader notes.

Review: Shake It Up With Shakespeare is part of the Rise and Shine Series. This musical for 2-part voices will provide your students with a fun and unforgettable introduction to English literature's most famous writer, William Shakespeare. Shakespeare not only wrote a wide range of plays and sonnets that touch upon all aspects of the human condition, he also created words and phrases that are still very much a part of our everyday language. Through the use of an easily memorized rhyming script and a healthy sprinkling of his most famous quotes, this musical serves as the basis for an overview of five well-known Shakespearean plays. The opening song is followed by five musical selections that highlight the essence of the plays featured: two comedies, two tragedies and one history. Along with his ability to expose the darker aspects of human nature, Shakespeare also demonstrated a gift for highlighting the humorous side of everyday life. The six original songs written for this musical are more reflective of the latter perspective of his works. The Enhanced Teacher Edition includes piano/vocal arrangements, rhyming program script as well as choreography, prop, staging and performance suggestions. The enclosed CD-ROM offers reproducible singer and speaking parts. A performance/accompaniment CD is available separately or in a kit with the enhanced Teacher edition. Suggested for Grades 2-5. Performance Time: 20 minutes.
