Songlist: Unborn Baby, Gone For Good, An Apple With Its Seeds Bob Chilcott : Hark, Hark, the Lark Hark, hark, the lark is a collection of eight exquisite settings for upper voices, specially commissioned to celebrate the four hundredth anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. The volume pays tribute to Britain's greatest writer, presenting a selection of his finest texts set to music by some of today's most accomplished choral composers. Songlist: And will he not come again?, Blow, blow, thou winter wind, Come unto these yellow sands, Hark, hark, the lark, Our revels now are ended, Over hill, over dale, When icicles hang by the wall, You spotted snakes with double tongue Bob Chilcott : 5 Songs For Upper Voices This exciting and accessible collection for upper voices (scored for SA choir and piano) features five brand-new songs by celebrated choral composer Bob Chilcott. Drawing on five very different texts, Chilcott guides the voices through a number of styles and moods; the songs include the rousing 'All for Love of One', gentle 'The Truth is Great', and thought-provoking 'All things pass'. The central song, 'Circles of Motion', is a fervent and positive setting of Joy Harjo's well-known 'Eagle Poem', and the collection is completed by the funky 'Red Boots On', which uses jazzy rhythms and harmonies to bring Kit Wright's text alive. This is Chilcott at his very best - a welcome addition to the repertoire of any upper-voice choir. Songlist: All For Love of One, The Truth Is Great, Circles of Motion, All Things Pass, Red Boots On Bob Chilcott : Samba Mass Samba Mass is a joyous and colourful setting of the Latin Missa brevis. The work is framed by the gentle bossa nova style of the warm Kyrie and relaxed Agnus Dei, which is prefaced by a funky Benedictus. The compelling rhythms of samba come to the fore in the second movement, a vivacious Gloria, which is followed by a beautiful Sanctus that offsets a steady flow of quavers with rhythmic syncopations. The stylistic piano part can be played as written or serve as a guide, and an optional guitar, bass, and drum kit part is available separately for band accompaniment. Performers will enjoy exploring the interplay between voices and the rich, warm colours of the samba and bossa nova styles Songlist: Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei Clough-Leighter : The A Cappella Singer - Female Voice "The A Cappella Singer" books, of which this is the second, are designed to bring much of this music in most engaging variety and excellence into schools, colleges, universities, clubs, communities and homes. While the other books in this series are designed for either the male or female voice, this book is designed for a mix of both, containing Madrigals and Ayres with all their grace, wit and lyrical charm; the ineffably lovely and truly religious music of Bach, Brahms and other composers nearer our own times; and fine arrangements of folk songs: this is an endlessly rich field containing most of the best choral music in the world. Songlist: Now Is The Month Of Maying, Sing we and chant it, Adieu, sweet Amarillis, Weep, O mine eyes, On the plains, Fairy trains, The Nightingale, Strike it up, Tabo, The Silver Swan, With dropping wings, ye Cupids come, Charm me asleep, Radient stars, above the mountains glowing, The Old Woman and the Pedlar, Come, lasses and lads, 'Tween the mount and deep, deep vale, The Beetle's Wedding, Tiritomba, Touro-louro-louro!, In dulci jubilo, Rejoice, ye Christian men, rejoice, The Slumber of the Infant Jesus, Jesu! Rex admirabilis, Adoramus te, Christe, Tanquam agnus, Vere languores nostros, Lo, a voice to heaven sounding, An angel said to Mary, Christ the Lord hath risen, O filii et filiae David Del Tredici : Heartfelt Anthems Generally recognized as the father of the Neo-Romantic movement in music, David Del Tredici has received numerous awards (including the Pulitzer Prize) and has been commissioned and performed by nearly every major American and European orchestral ensemble. "Del Tredici," said Aaron Copland, "is that rare find among composers - a creator with a truly original gift. I venture to say that his music is certain to make a lasting impression on the American musical scene. I know of no other composer of his generation who composes music of greater freshness and daring, or with more personality." From Del Tredici's Program notes: "In this traumatic post-9/11 world, I felt an urge to connect with, and even comfort, the youngest generation of budding musicians. Heart and felt are two words that directed my choice of texts: I wanted to tell something about myself, as well as about the joys of childhood ... Stevenson's "The Little Land" re-creates the imaginitive world that to daydreaming children seems so natural." David Del Tredici writes: "My setting of the 1727 New England Primer's "Alphabet" might horrify its Puritan author by transforming its simple text into an exuberant tour de force. Its 26 couplets tumble upon one another in tight three-part counterpoint, testing the young performers' range and endurance alike." Songlist: Alphabet (Fuga), Sabbath's Child, The Little Land David Dusing : Stephen Foster for Treble Voices Written in 1854, Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair was dedicated to composer Stephen Foster's wife, Jane McDowall. The opening lyrics, "I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair," are said to have inspired the popular 1960s sitcom, I Dream of Jeannie. Sweet and lilting, this whimsical piece is arranged for soprano and alto voices. Songlist: Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair, Nelly Bly, Oh! Susanna Douglas J. Cuomo : Fortune Based on an ancient Taoist fable about a small village farmer whose fortune continually changes through a chain of interconnected events. Singers are divided into two character groups - the narrator and the villagers - and a soloist sings the role of the farmer. The moral of the story: You never know, keep on going. All is not as it first appears. Einojuhani Rautavaara : Suite de Lorca The Lorca suite is probably Rautavaara's most popular choral work. The combination of Lorca's poetry and the soaring melodic lines of the music make it a true pearl of contemporary choral literature. Rautavaara has injected each of the four movements of the suite with its own unmistakable character. Text: Federico Garcia Lorca (Spanish/Finnish), duration: 7 minutes. Eleanor Daley : Seasons of Love The English part song is back, with New World freshness and flair! A prolific composer, Eleanor Daley has a remarkable gift for melody. Her works are most notable for their sensitive interweaving of text and music. She has over one hundred published choral compositions and is commissioned extensively throughout North America. Songlist: Spring, Midsummer, Autumn, Winter Emma Lou Diemer : Hope Is the Thing: An Emily Dickinson Suite This five-movement major addition to the repertoire for women's chorus has widely differing voicings and textures. All the movements use Emily Dickinson's domestic images--bees, birds, balls of yarn--to express hopes and fears relating to the future and the past. Movement 1, 2, 4 and 5 are accompanied, Movement 3 is A Cappella. Songlist: Hope Is the Thing With Feathers, A Bird Came Down The Walk, My Life Closed Twice Before Its Close, If You Were Coming In The Fall, Some Things That Fly There Be Erik Bergman : Dreams Dreams is in many ways a sister work to Bergman's Lapponia, particularly in terms of the sound material it uses. However, the atmosphere of the world it inhabits is more intangible and dream-like, as its name suggests. Text: wordless, duration 13 minutes. Francisco J. Nunez : Transient Glory Launched in the year 2000, Transient Glory began as a concert performance series of the Young People's Chorus of New York City conducted by Francisco J. Nunez to advance the art of children's choirs throughout the world. The Transient Glory choral series is designed and developed by its editor as a commitment to young voices singing glorious music during that short, transient period of childhood. Songlist: Colors, Orpheus, The Nervous Family, Un-Labelled, The Smiling Eyes Greg Gilpin : Let The Women Sing! Let the Women Sing! is a new reproducible collection of chorals for soprano and alto voices and is the follow-up to the best-selling collection Let the Men Sing! Folk songs, holiday music, spirituals, inspirational songs, and patriotic themes fill this nine-song collection. This budget-stretching kit includes an enhanced CD-ROM with accompaniment and performance tracks, information about the composer, as well as reproducible vocal parts and instrument pages. Whether you have 10 or 100 female singers, this must-have collection will keep you on budget while supplying your program with excellent choral literature for your young female singers for many years to come. Songlist: Danny Boy, Keep On Following The Star, A Merry Christmas Medley, Music's Echo, Rock Me To Sleep, Skye Boat Song, The Star Spangled Banner, Swing Down, Chariot!, Think On Me Gustav Holst : The Princess This new edition of Holst's beloved settings (from Tennyson's long narrative poem) reveals them to be models of musical economy for the time-starved teacher, as well as gems of pure loveliness. Devices such as antiphonal and echo choirs, repeated sections in parallel major and minor, and well-handled canonic techniques, make each movement a distinctive delight. Gweneth Walker : To My Girls "A bright girl, a jungle girl, shining quick as a snake" is the gutsy narrator of 'This Morning.' The voices have strong, syncopated rhythmic figures on "nn" and "la" sounds, and slide upward on "girl" for well-crafted-and enjoyable-instrumental effects. In 'To My Girls,' the poet tells her four graceful, nearly grown daughters. Reflective homophonic sections tell the mother's hopes. They alternate with ostinato patterns of simmering energy, reflecting the dancing excitement of four girls ready to burst forth, out into the world. The most percussive of the set, 'Sisters' features schoolyard-style partnered handclap patterns for singers in pairs. That's in addition to finger snaps, and cymbal, brush, and sticks-on-the-rim vocal percussion effects, all painting a lively picture of the "very same place" that "you and me," sisters, come from. Songlist: This Morning, To My Girls, Sisters Larry Pugh : Just for the Gals Following the strong affirmation for the reproducible format of "Just for the Guys" , we present "Just for the Gals." With eight exceptional titles not previously available for SSA choirs, this high quality concert repertoire is available in a cost-saving reproducible collection format, complete with an accompaniment CD - all for just over $5 per title for your entire choir, no matter the size. Songlist: Goodnight, My Love, Hello, Girls, Oh, Mother Dear, Voice Of The Sea, Wind Of The Western Sea Malle Babbe Women's Choir : Songs of Survival These pieces of music came into being in a prison camp on Sumatra. The initial idea was Norah Chambers, and Margaret Dryburgh and her worked on the various pieces. Some they did together and others individually, depending on how well we could remember the original pieces of music. The idea was to bring singers together - Dutch, British, Australian - about thirty in all, to make music to uplift us and perhaps to bring some beauty and sanity. The music was written on odd bits of paper, mostly in pencil, and written as small as possible to save paper. It was difficult at first to sing without words, what sound to make, the tempo and the color. The One sound not used was "AH." It was too throaty. We found the best sounds were "Ne, Le." When notes had to be sung together, as in "Morning Sun," the sixteenth notes were not broken, but sung legato. The sounds used were "Le," with the accent on the first note of the sixteenth notes, such as humming was used when there was a solo singer as undercurrent to the melody. Songlist: Song of Survival Vol. 1, Song of Survival Vol. 2, Song of Survival Vol. 3, Song of Survival Vol. 4, Song of Survival Vol. 5, Song of Survival Vol. 6 Mary Lynn Lightfoot : In Concert! For SSA Best-selling repertoire in a practical voicing makes up this collection for concerts for festivals. The nine selections by leading composers offer a wide spectrum of styles and moods. Meredith Monk : Three Heavens and Hells Based on a text by Tennessee Reed, the 11 year-old daughter of author Ishmael Reed. Three Heavens and Hells may be performed by a children's or adult chorus of treble voices. Patti DeWitt : Five Songs For Treble Voice These creative settings add to the growing body of a cappella literature for the developing choir. These songs are especially appropriate for your a cappella feature at contest. Songlist: Sourwood Mountain, Elegy, Come, Ye Young Maidens, Star Light, Star Bright, I Never Will Marry Peteris Vasks : Sorrow - Three Songs For Female Choir Peteris Vasks' strong attachment to his Latvian home country shows particularly in his choral music. Nature, customs and traditions as well as the idea of freedom are the central themes of the texts he sets to music, while carefully using modern techniques of choral singing as well. Alternating with traditional, even archaic singing, the music creates a multi-faceted, immediately effective sound image in the listener's mind. These six songs for female choir centre on the themes of man, nature and transience, and home in aphoristic brevity. Vasks wrote music on these folk poems which contains rewarding tasks for the choir and opens up a fascinating world of sound to the listener. Songlist: The Sad Mother, Small, Warm Holiday, Sunmmer Sandra Millikin : Choral Vivace Upper Voices Anthology 1 Pieces for upper voices from the Choral Vivace series, including many of the best-selling titles - a new and cost-effective way for choirs to purchase a graded selection of titles Songlist: Stand by our Side, If I Open the Door, Sleep and Dream, Sing, Sing for Water, The Squirrel, Missa piccola, Dona nobis pacem, Dormi, Jesu!, Cantate Domino, Panis Dei Sandra Millikin : Choral Vivace Upper Voices Anthology 2 Pieces for upper voices from the Choral Vivace series, including many of the best-selling titles - a new and cost-effective way for choirs to purchase a graded selection of titles Songlist: Anthem, Bus Ride, Laudate eum omnes stellae luminis, Music Comes, Snowflakes, Tango in 5, Laudate eum solo et luna Stephen Hatfield : Treble Voice Fun! - Vol 1 Stephen Hatfield is noted for his exciting arrangements of world music, and for his original works which weave influences from diverse cultures into a fresh and distinctive idiom. His choirs have earned gold medals in national festivals, and he has received various awards for his work in education and music. With "For Elizabeth:.." Hatfield uses the old Italian technique of matching the vowels of her name to the corresponding sol-fa syllables to create an ostinato that metaphorically translates her into music. The piece combines poignancy with lots of sparkle, lots of interlocking ostinati. The mix of tenderness and energy has effected audiences strongly. "Glettur" is an Icelandic word that signifies a mischievous but ultimately good-hearted sense of humour. Launching itself from a snatch of an old fiddle jig, "Glettur" lives up to its name with crafty changes of style and key, and with ironic allusions to a couple of other famous pieces of music that have something to do with high spirit. With "Fashion Victim, Drama Queen" we have a slangy de profundis about trying to placate your peer group. The soli section acts as the Drama Queen, while the rest of the choir takes the part of the peer group, commenting on the outsider in a mixture of English and Tex-Mex Spanish slang. Each movement of Missa Brevis incorporates folk melodies from a different country. The moods and the tempi of the originals have been altered; melodies have been unraveled, spliced together and persuaded to modulate. Songlist: For Elizabeth: Gold, Frank Innocence, and Mirth, Glettur, Fashion Victim, Drama Queen, Missa Brevis Stephen Hatfield : Three Ways To Vacuum Your House These original pieces incorporates a multiplicity of multicultural influences, from Peru to Scotland. The text is a sequence of nonsense syllables, imitating the humming and muttering one does during housework. The first movement explores various hemiola patterns culminating in vocalized drum patterns modeled on Arabic and Indian traditions. The second movement, whose slow groove is derived from Reggae, incorporates tonalities and scale structures from Brazil and Lebanon. The final movement starts in Peru, and works upward through Latin America only to discover a hitherto unexplored Mexican/Scottish border. Lots of fun to both teach and sing! Songlist: Three Ways To Vacuum Your House - Part I, Three Ways To Vacuum Your House - Part II, Three Ways To Vacuum Your House - Part III Various Arrangers : A Cappella! Volume 3 Volume III in the popular A Cappella! series features nine concert and festival selections for young and developing SSA choirs from creative writers Amy F. Bernon, Victor C. Johnson and Ruth Elaine Schram. The Choral Edition, ideal for use as a judge's copy or for your singers. Comprised of one spiritual arrangement, three folk song arrangements and five original selections in a variety of styles, this collection is an exceptional value and a great resource for your music library. Songlist: Lift Your Voice in Joyful Song!, Skye Boat Song, Kol Dodi, Sanctus, Elijah Rock, The Full Heart, A Couple Old Men, Said the Rain, Miserere Nobis Various Arrangers : Intermediate Repertoire for Treble Voices The text of "Wind Song" is derived from the names for different types and characters of winds found all over the globe. Each wind is presented in its own language, and the mood of each is reflected in the music. Written to excite and intrigue, the creative and improvisatory work for women's choir "'s No Wonder" highlights the double meaning of the title. It's no wonder that winter itself creates snow wonder. The musical structure of "How Can I Keep From Singing?" is similar to the well known American folk hymn, Amazing Grace. A verse of Amazing Grace is included in the last section of this arrangement. "Songs From Gahu is a recreational piece of the Ewe (eh-weh), who live in Ghana and Togo, West Africa. Gahu" is a rich texture of singing, dancing, drumming, drama and the visual impact of colorful costumes. It originated in Nigeria and was brought to Ghana in the 1950's by Ewes who had travelled there, "Gahu" means "expensive dance" and refers to the elaborate nature of the costumes. These four songs (among many others) accompany the dancing and drumming of Gahu. Songlist: Songs From Gahu, How Can I Keep from Singing?, 's No Wonder, Wind Song Various Arrangers : As You Sing A celebration of Oxford's popular Songbird series, this collection of nine original works for upper voices in two, three, and four parts meets the need for fresh concert repertoire for youth and women's choirs. Featuring well-known composers such as Kerry Andrew, Cecilia McDowall, and Sarah Quartel, the collection includes a variety of styles and moods and a selection of pieces that are all melodically appealing and immediately approachable, with a contemporary twist. Texts from across the years touch on a range of themes, from the empowering to the quirky, with a particular emphasis on the natural world. Performance notes from compilers Neil Ferris and Joanna Tomlinson provide invaluable tips for rehearsal and performance, making this a complete and practical collection for contemporary upper-voice choirs.
