Philip has been composing choral music since 1996, mainly for the choirs he was directing. At Oxford, the Keble Missa Brevis was composed for the College Choir and premiered at the service of Corporate Communion in the Chapel followed by formal dinner with visitors from the Keble Parishes. Jesus Christ the Apple Tree and the Keble Canticles (first performed in York Minster) were also written for the College Choir, and the Hymn to the Creator for the final service of Chaplain John Davies. At Chester Cathedral, Philip composed God be in my head (2000) and A child is born in Bethlehem for the Cathedral Nave Choir. If ye love me and The King of love my shepherd is were composed for the main Cathedral Choir. During this time, Philip also composed the Te Deum (for choir and orchestra) for the Leighton Buzzard Festival Singers 50th Anniversary Concert. This Eucharistic service was written for the dedication of the Nave of St. Anne's Cathedral in Belfast, Ireland. The Kyrie features long flowing lines with each part entering independently from each other creating a beautiful layering effect. The Gloria begins with a unison statement of "Glory to God in the Highest," which quickly splits into separate parts. An intricate organ sixteenth note pattern introduces the Sanctus beginning with a solo statement by the treble voices. The service concludes with a peaceful and beautiful Benedictus. Very effective choral and organ writing.

Philip Stopford's new Mass setting for assembly, cantor, SATB voices and organ was commissioned for St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Richmond Heights, Missouri, to commemorate the parish's Centennial. It is a complete setting: Penitential Act (four options), Gloria (through composed), Sprinkling Rite, Gospel Acclamations (Alleluia and Lenten acclamations), Universal Prayer, Eucharistic Acclamations and Lamb of God. Latin settings of the Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei are also included. While Mr. Stopford's compositional style has the broad sweep of English church music, his flair for melody keeps it accessible for assembly. Movements such as the Holy, Holy are set creatively and will remain fresh after years of singing. Parts for brass quintet and timpani on the major movements add to a festive rendition.

Originally written as a solo work, this unison setting for treble voices and organ depicts Mary standing at the foot of the cross. In the music, the falling phrases represent Mary's weeping - and the rising phrases, her grief and great sadness of heart.
This unaccompanied arrangement is ideal for caroling and other venues where no keyboard is available. It is in a part song style with varying choral textures during verses and linking passages between. The last verse culminates in a fabulous full choir section with an uplifting ending.
