This haunting, introspective plea for relief begins as a near-whisper and rises to an intense clangor. Through the mantra-like repetition and gradual transformation of the words from this timeless Psalm, we enter and experience a world of intense spiritual conflict and resolution.

A profoundly beautiful text describes a child in her bed at night, staring out of her high-rise window at a view obscured by a thick haze, her bedroom flooded with sounds from the city. Such a child may turn out to be the voice that brings about the changes needed to remedy our relationship with the planet. This original and hopeful text by the composer is set in a unique, somewhat jazzy style.
Composer: Don Macdonald
Long, legato lines and shifting tonal centers describe this setting by Matthew Emery of this famous James Joyce poem. Speaking of the power of both love and music and how they intertwine and collide, the musical setting is sensitive and powerful and will be a favorite of a good high school or collegiate choir.
Composer: Matthew Emery
In this setting, the composer employs warm, lush harmonic language along with a lovely, lyrical treatment of the familiar bedtime poem by Thomas Dekker. It was premiered at the Vancouver Chamber Choir's semi-annual Youth and Music concert in 2015.
Composer: Josh Groban | Performed By: Josh Groban
Inspired by the astonishing Thomas Tallis setting of the same text and using Tallis's original melody in the final refrain, this work from Swiss composer Ivo Antognini is full of shimmering chords and surprising harmonic inventions. Highly recommended for accomplished choirs and ensembles.
Composer: Ivo Antognini
Jon Washburn has crafted a lush and dramatic setting of this traditional Japanese folksong. Using the choir as a traditional Japanese stringed folk instrument, Jon sets the mood with a gentle vocal accompaniment for a soprano solo. Soon the dynamics swell and the full sense of spring and the wonder of nature explode with vocal intensity, painting the picture of the arrival of spring.
Arranger: Jon Washburn
Rollicking and upbeat, this playful setting of a traditional Irish children's song is accented with hand-clapping and foot-stomping. Limited ranges and familiar harmonies enhance its accessibility and make it a winner!

This wonderful parable by Will Allen Dromgoole has a dreamy quality and the music reflects that with a mix of soft jazz and classical stylings. Syncopated vocal accompaniment creates an effect that feels like ripples on the surface of water. The a cappella setting requires a very good choir.
Composer: Don Macdonald
Well-written straightforward arrangement of one of the more unusual spirituals, suitable for a holiday concert or worship service. Familiar harmonies make it an easily learned, readily programmed piece.
Arranger: Jon Washburn
Based on Lithuanian folksongs, this setting portrays a wild night in a tavern, with singing, laughing, shouting and dancing. For college choirs and up, this is a perfect tour-de-force! Performance Time: Approx. 3:40
Composer: Algimantas Brazinskas
From the pen of rapidly rising young composer Matthew Emery and winner of the 2013 ACDA Raymond W. Brock Memorial Student Composition Contest, this a cappella setting of the Robert Herrick poem is a beautiful addition to serious choral repertoire. With dramatic use of dynamics, a fresh harmonic language and a timeless text, this is a wonderful selection for college and community choirs.
Composer: Matthew Emery
The words of this Christina Rossetti poem are simple, but spiritually profound. They speak of trusting in unknowable things, and of appreciating the miracle of our existence. The music is lyrical and contrapuntal with wide dynamic contrasts and moments for your singers to express their individual musicianship.
Composer: David Archer
It is just a simple love song, but aren't those simple ones usually the best? Veteran composer Carl Nygard set his own poem to music, a song appropriate for lovers everywhere. Carl dedicated this one to his wife of forty years, but the words and tune seem timeless. Good for high school choirs.
Composer: Elton John
