From this exalted platform lept three of the four Acoustix members Jeff, Todd and Jason. Rick joined them from the Town North Chorus, an across town rival. Collectively they performed a one-in-a-million feat by sweeping their four state preliminary competition to go to San Francisco for the SPEBSQSA International Quartet Championship where they won the gold medal in their first attempt at the competition! It assumes we know that THS is a Cape Cod-based a cappella vocal group of between 10 and 14 young men, and luckily, we do. 16 songs, some favorites are the Beatles' "Drive My Car, "Bring It To Me," "Remedy," "Just My Imagination," "Signed Sealed Delivered," Huey Lewis & the News' "If This Is It," Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi," "Love Train" and closing with their trademark "Irish Parting Blessing." Recorded at First Baptist Church, Hyannis in August of 2003 before an enthusiastic audience. Good stuff! Deke Sharon), If This is It (arr: Eric Fosbury), Don't Cry (arr: Aithan Shapira), L-Y (arr: Townsend Belisle), Big Yellow Taxi (arr: Samrat Chakrabarti), The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing (Jim Barrington), Love Train (arr: Ed Boyer), Irish Blessing ![]() Male Ensemble Northwest : Sweet Rivers 14-strong M.E.N. was formed in Longview, Washington in 1982, by choral musician and educator Howard Meharg. His mission was "to celebrate the art of male choral singing, to inspire men of all ages to musical artistry, and to encourage young men in leadership and example among their colleagues in music." The ensemble has been honored by invitations to sing as state, regional and national conventions of the ACDA. Unique among male choruses, each member of Male Ensemble Northwest is a conductor as well as an outstanding vocal musician. There are 13 richly harmonic tunes here, some of our favorites are some spiritual tunes, "Shout for Joy," "Alleluia," "When I Hear The Trumpet Sound," "City Called Heaven;" and Andrew Crouch's "Soon and Very Soon" (arranged by Randy Crenshaw); a pair of Lennon/McCartney songs, "I Will" and "Eleanor Rigby;" 5 Celtic Folk songs by Vijay Singh, "Timor et Tremor," "Fergus an' Molly," "Lament of a Fisher's Wife" and the delightful "Finnan Haddie;" "Sweet Rivers" and the lovely, traditional "Irish Blessing." There is occasional light piano and guitar accompaniment, but the voices, with their rich, bright harmonies, are the focus here. Powerful, beautiful material from this talented, veteran men's chorus! Songlist: Timor et Tremor, Shout for Joy, Alleluia!, Sweet Rivers, When I Hear the Trumpet Sound, City Called Heaven, Fergus an' Molly, Lament of a Fisher's Wife, Finnan Haddie, Soon and Very Soon, I Will, Eleanor Rigby, Irish Blessing ![]() Martini Quartet : Straight Up! I like my music as I like my drinks - that's straight up with a twist. And that's exactly what the talented ladies of The Martini Quartet serve up on this intoxicating release. These bi-national Queens of Harmony sing songs like they should be sung - beautifully, crisply and with feeling. The harmony is pure, tight and seamless with voices that soar. So make yourself a cocktail, sit back and let the warm glow of the music lift your spirits. Cheers ladies! Songlist: Let's Live It Up, Sweet Dreams, Bumblebee, Come On Get Happy, I Will Go Sailing No More, Deed I Do, Fix You, Life Is A Highway, The Folks Who Live on the Hill, Defying Gravity, Irish Blessing, Canada's Really Big ![]() Midwest Vocal Express : New Orleans Decoupage Pride of Greendale, Wisconsin, the 58-strong men's a cappella chorus Midwest Vocal Express, brings us a nostalgic tribute to New Orleans, with a number of excellent guest quartets, Checkmate, JACKPOT!, Breaking News and Nightwatch, who blew us away more than once at the Harmony Sweepstakes Finals. Some favorites among these 16 songs are "Tin Roof Blues," the title tune (New Orleans Decoupage 'Way Down Yonder in New Orleans"), "Original Dixieland One-Step," "You'll Never Walk Alone," "Ja-Da," "Where the Southern Roses Grow," "Calypso Medley," "Alexander's Band is Back in Dixieland," "Zip-A-Dee Dooh-Dah," "Polka Medley," "I'll Fly Away," "It's Only a Paper Moon," "Teen Medley" and "Irish Blessing." But there's not a weak cut, dry eye or untagged heartstring here. "New Orleans Decoupage" is a breath of fresh, Southern air from one of the Midwest's finest men's choruses! Songlist: Tin Roof Blues, New Orleans Decoupage, You'll Never Walk Alone, Ja-Da, Where The Southern Roses Grow, Calypso Medly, Alexander's Band Is Back, One Voice, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Polka Medley, Yes Sir, That's My Baby, Dream A Little Dream Of Me, I'll Fly Away, It's Only A Paper Moon, Teen Medley, Irish Blessing ![]() My Three Sons : New Gang On The Corner ![]() This unique quartet has been making history for many years now. As members of the well-known Ditchfield Family Singers this father - Stephen Ditchfield - and his sons also perform as a barbershop quartet. Even when the boys were very young they started winning singing competitions and this recording marks their comeback as grown men who still retain their love of close harmony singing. Lots a great music here including some barbershop classics along with a variety of popular music from the '30's, '40's, and '50's. Songlist: There's a Brand New Gang on the Corner, Orange Colored Sky, Wait Till the Sun Shines Nellie, Little Green Apples, Jeepers Creepers, The Story of the Rose, The River of no Return, I May Be Wrong, Irish Blessing, Singing with my Dad, Where Is Love?, You Rise me up, If Ever I Would Leave You ![]() |
