When they interpret a gospel tune or spiritual, however, they absolutely shine. The versatility of the stylistic embellishments that they routinely employ is amazing, and it's these nuances - a bar of rhythmic counterpoint here, a half step swoop into a repeating phrase there - that bring such lasting satisfaction. From Ephesians 4:4-6, this highly syncopated piece is especially ideal for contemporary ensembles that include a drum set. The solid SATB texture of the refrain drives with high energy. That texture continues as backup to the solo verses. A piano interlude leads to a key change for the last refrain, which concludes in a repeat and fade in the final four bars.
