These lovely songs, with names like Delius' "To be sung of a summer night on the water," Williams' "The cloud-capped towers," and Britten's "The succession of the four sweet months," tells us all we need to know about these songs. Soaring, sweet and delightful! Songlist: The Bluebird, To Be Sung A Summer Night On The Water I, To Be Sung A Summer Night On The Water II, There Is Sweet Music, My Love Dwelt In A Northern Land, Full Fathom Five, The Cloud-Capp'd Towers, Over Hill, Over Dale, The Sailor And Young Nancy, Brigg Fair, Londonderry Air, The Three Ravens, My Sweetheart's Like Venus, The Oak And The Ash, Quick! We Have But A Second, To Daffodils, The Succession Of The Four Sweet Months, Marsh Flowers, The Evening Primrose, Ballad Of Green Broom Gents : The Gents in Love Dijkstra: it gives me great pleasure to present this CD, which appears in response to repeated requests. At last we have taken the opportunity to record this repertoire. How often we have had to disappoint members of the audience when we tell them that, unfortunately, there are no recordings available for the arrangements of Billy Joels Lullabye or Toni Wines Groovy Kind of Love. Here they are at last! Also included are three beautiful songs from the popular Dutch group BLF. The goal of this CD is to evoke the simple joy of singing. In my opinion, it is this quality which, in addition to or even in spite of our attempts at perfection and flexibility, is the most important to convey to an audience, and it is a quality which The Gents always try to express. Songlist: Michelle, Lullabye, Blackbird, And So It Goes, With A Little Help From My Friends, Misschien niet d e Eeuwigheid, Omarm, Dansen aan zee, Londonderry Air, The Oak and the Ash, Molly Malone, Ca' the Yowes, The Turtle Dove, Hey Jude, If I Fell, A Groovy Kind of Love, And I Love Her King's Singers : Original Debut Recording (Cherry Ripe) The prototype for what has developed into a twenty-five year career that continues to grow in popularity, this initial 1971 recording hints at the dominion the King's Singers have over an astonishing variety of material. Four tracks are a cappella, the rest accompanied by the Gordon Langford Trio (Langford also arranged five of the songs). Traditionals, such as "Shenandoah, "Cherry Ripe" and "Scarborough Fair" are side-by-side with Gershwin's "Summertime" and Bacharach's "Wives and Lovers." Stylistically, the King's Singers combine formal classical knowledge with the immaculate blend of a barbershop chorus and the personality of English music hall performers appearing on the "Old Grey Whistle Test." No wonder they've stood the test of time! Songlist: The Peanut Vendor, Shenandoah, Cherry Ripe, Summertime, Time Was, Scarborough Fair, None But The Lonely Heart, Linstead Market, The Oak And The Ash, Wives And Lovers, Blow Away The Morning Dew, The Green Leaves Of Summer, What Kind Of Things |

This jaunty arrangement of a traditional English North Country folk song tells a story of a woman who laments being away from her home in the North Country. Lovely harmonic refrains contrast with the lyric unison verses, all enhanced with the optional two flute accompaniment.
