A Martin Luther text in German with English translation. Rather brief, but lovely enough to warrant singing twice.Bass part may be sung or played by cello or organ.

2014 marks the 200th anniversary of the writing of Francis Scott Key's piece that became our National Anthem. Tim Sharp, Executive Director of ACDA saw an opportunity for choirs all across America to stand together in harmony and celebration. His arrangement is based on the improvisation performed by Rachmaninoff, an American citizen, and can be sung a cappella or accompanied (see NMK1001/HL00125145) from National Music Publishers.

Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006) produced works in virtually every genre, primarily religious in nature. His Ave Maria is a short unaccompanied work for women's voices that displays his interest in plainchant and medievally-influenced modal writing. Dale Warland's Benedictus complements the Pinkham nicely for an excellent showcase for women's chorus in high school and up.

Some history: this song comes from Haiti, but actually refers to the first King of Angola, Ngolo Kiluanje, who was revered as a great king. The Creole word for "king" ("wa") plus the king's name ("Ngolo") became "Wangolo." It's an authentic folk song recalling the peace and prosperity the Angolan people enjoyed before colonization. This rhythmic rendition, which may be performed without piano if desired, includes optional body percussion, suggested parts for djembe and other instruments, optional solos in the call and response section, plus a final descant that tops off the triadic parallel harmonies.
