Review: This is the most serious and useful collection yet published of solo arias from oratorios, masses and cantatas. The literature was confined to work by major composers, and by-passes the dated oratorio literature found in previous collections. The most famous music is here, and so is interesting and less famous music by masters. There are new music engravings for each aria, and extensive historical notes and translations. Solo instrumental obbligato parts, which can be cut from the book, are included on appropriate selections.
Songlist: Seufzer, Thränen, Kummer, Noth from Cantata No. 21 (Bach), Mein gläubiges Herze from Cantata No. 68 (Bach), Quia respexit from Magnificat (Bach), Zerfliesse, mein Herze from St. John Passion (Bach), Blute nur, du liebes Herz from St. Matthew Passion (bach), Nur ein Wink von seinem Händen from Christmas Oratorio (Bach), Preist der Erlösers Güte from Christ on the Mount of Olives (Beethoven), Pie Jesu from REQUIEM (Fauré), Tune the soft melodious lute from Jephtha (Handel), Oh! had I Jubal's lyre from Joshua (Handel), O liberty, thou choicest treasure from Judas Maccabæus (Handel), Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion from Messiah (Handel), Let the bright Seraphim from SAMSON (Handel), Welche Labung für die Sinne from The Seasons (Haydn), Nun beut die Flur from The Creation (Haydn), and more

Review: with IPA and word for word translations and CDs of recorded diction lessons This is a companion to The French Song Anthology, edited by Carol Kimball and Richard Walters, with 60 songs by 24 composers. The diction lessons were recorded by coach, conductor and diction specialist Pierre Vallet. The diction for each song is recorded twice: first recited as an actor would speak it, showing flow of the language and the mood, followed by a slow, deliberate lesson, allowing time for the student to repeat each line. This experienced language coach adapts the R in French in the slow versions as recommended for classical singers. He is also very sensitive to liaisons between word sounds in the musical settings.
