Jay Althouse has put together a trio of jazz tunes for young choirs. It opens with a light swing number, followed by a traditional vocal jazz ballad, and closes with a tight, up tempo chart reminiscent of Route 66. Written specifically as teaching songs, these pieces are perfect for training your group in classic jazz styles. Nostalgically authentic; it's as if each of the short standards were written by Count Basie himself. Three great teaching tools for the price of one! SoundTrax features a professionally recorded jazz combo.
Composer: Jay Althouse
As the title indicates, Douglas E. Wagner has incorporated a slick, jazzy feel into this original to using two favorites: "Deck the Hall" and "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas." It's a delightful light programming addition to any holiday concert.

As the text says, "A twist of the tounge is easier sung than said." It's true! Just "enunciate clearly the words you love dearly" and these "twisters and teasers, grammatical pleasers are" a singer's verbal delight. It's fun, of course, but hidden beneath this song's humor is an excellent teaching piece-ideal for rehearsal work on diction and enunciation. Use it as a vocal exercise or as a concert work...two pieces in one.
Composer: Carl Strommen

The most ingenious pairing of words and music we've heard in years: the text of "Deck the Hall" set to Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." You won't believe how easily the "fa la la's" fit to this universal holiday favorite from The Nutcracker Suite. The holiday text is secular so it's ideal for December concerts, and it's surprisingly easy to sing. It's one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" pieces. The fully orchestrated SoundTrax CD is based on Tchaikovsky's original orchestration.
Arranger: Jeff Funk | Composer: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky | Musical: The Nutcracker
These two short songs are an excellent introduction to cross-cultural choral singing. Both incorporate brief Spanish phrases with an English text. Numero uno is a sensitive piece about music; dos is a lively, "salsa" style number: "Everybody sing, sing, sing!" Their contrasting qualities make them a nice program set but they can also be sung individually. Well written vocal lines and counterlines make them easy and enjoyable to sing. The SoundTrax captures the songs' Spanish flavor.
