Jon was born in 1960, the year the Lexington chapter was chartered. He was exposed to barbershop harmony at an early age as his grandparents took him to the Louisville Thoroughbred Chorus Christmas show every year. Jon's great-grandfather, John Fulton Nicholas, sang in a barbershop quartet at the turn of the nineteenth century. At sixteen, Jon joined the Thoroughbreds and has been singing barbershop ever since. Jon is an arranger and his charts are sung all over the world including Canada, Great Britain, and Australia. Jon also directs the Heart Of Kentucky Men's Chorus in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and coaches other choruses, quartets, and a cappella ensembles throughout the year. |

This arrangement was commissioned for the Heritage of Harmony show, celebrating the African-American Origins of Barbershop Harmony, part of the BHS 2019 Midwinter Convention held at the legendary Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN. Male and female quartets sing independently, then join together as one voice, building toward a powerful ending, showcasing the lyric and celebrating this song, recognized as The African-American National Anthem.

A powerful message of hope from Rogers and Hammerstein with instant recognition. This Jon Nicholas arrangement is a must for any music repertoire. A great compliment to the Don Gray setting of If I Loved You, also from Carousel.
