Jon was born in 1960, the year the Lexington chapter was chartered. He was exposed to barbershop harmony at an early age as his grandparents took him to the Louisville Thoroughbred Chorus Christmas show every year. Jon's great-grandfather, John Fulton Nicholas, sang in a barbershop quartet at the turn of the nineteenth century. At sixteen, Jon joined the Thoroughbreds and has been singing barbershop ever since. Jon was the baritone in two Cardinal District Champion quartets: The Class Of '84 (1984) and The Sensations (2000), which went on to place 20th at internationals in 2001. Jon also sang baritone in The New Sensations, which placed 25th in 2003. In January, 2002, Jon became the musical director of The Kentuckians Chorus and led them to their AA plateau championship in 2003, and their AAA plateau championships in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. Jon is an arranger and his charts are sung all over the world including Canada, Great Britain, and Australia. You can listen to his works at www.nicholasarrangements.com. Jon also directs the Heart Of Kentucky Men's Chorus in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and coaches other choruses, quartets, and a cappella ensembles throughout the year. Jon lives in Lexington with his amazingly supportive wife, Denise. |
