Bob Martin : Men's Vocal Jazz Standards 2 "Blue And Sentimental" is a slow grooving version of this Basie classic. It starts out right on the chorus with everyone on words. "Oo's" on bridge the first time around with a half step modulation into the last 'A'. This is a very tight arrangement with ample opportunity to work on swing feel by accenting the upbeat on eighth note passages. "I've Got A Crush On You" starts with a rubato introduction into a slow-ish swing groove for the chorus. The verse is in the middle and is sung rubato with "oo's" behind the lead. Back to tempo second time around with a half-step modulation into the last'A' with a ritard into the ending. "Let's Get Away From It All" is a snappy, toe-tapping rendition. It starts right in on the chorus and cruises along to a big ending. Straight-ahead, very fun to sing, and makes a great show opener. "Lillette" is a somewhat rare tune performed by the Nat Cole trio in his early days. It starts out with a rubato verse going into a snappy chorus with tons of fun syncopated rhythms that keep things moving. Stop time kicks in the tag send this one off with a bang. Songlist: Blue and Sentimental, I've Got a Crush on You, Lillette Deke Sharon : Men's Popular Jazz In "Heartache Tonight" rock & roll, country, and streetcorner sensibilities combine in this fun, up tempo of the Eagles classic. Complete with handclaps and footstomps, this arrangement features a high tenor solo and lots of moving harmony, making it a perfect closing song or encore. "Only You (and You Alone)" is a streetcorner ballad made famous by The Platters is the perfect showcase for a male quartet that's looking for a fun doo-wop piece. The solo is in the first tenor, and crosses into falsetto frequently, allowing for a powerhouse vocal showcase, and the other three parts have fun with the lyrics. Street corner meets close harmony in this rendering of Paul Simon's ode to days-gone-by " Still Crazy After All These Years". Perfect for graduations and retrospective events. The tenor solo can be shared or split between several singers. Light vocal percussion is optional. First a hit for Maurice Chevalier, then Louis Prima, then David Lee Roth, the catchy, flirtatious songs, 'Just A Gigalo/I Ain't Got Nobody' have topped the charts for three generations. Tuneful, playful background parts support a tenor or Baritone solo (which can be shared): send your soloist into the audience and you'll have a huge crowd pleaser. Songlist: Only You (And You Alone), Still Crazy After All These Years, Just A Gigalo/I Ain't Got Nobody The Four Freshmen : Four Freshmen Collection 'Love Lost' is a collective work by Bob Flanigan, Don and Ross Barbour and Ken Albers. 'Oh, Lonely Winter' is from the Four Freshmen and Five Guitars Capitol record album. Lyrics by Bill Comstock and music by Ken Albers. 'This October' is considered one of the greatest of all hits of the Four Freshmen. 'I'll Remember April' was recorded on the Voices in Love albums, this great arrangement by Dick Reynolds is one of the all-time favorites. The cappella arrangement of Indian Summer by Nelson Riddle is stunning. Songlist: Indian Summer, Love Lost, Oh, Lonely Winter, This October, I'll Remember April Various Arrangers : Men's Jazz Holiday "All On A Christmas Morning" is one of the least performed but most hauntingly beautiful of the Alfred Burt Christmas carols, this male chorus version features tight four-and five-part voicings and jazz reharmonizations throughout, a rare step-out solo for the second bass, followed by another step-out solo for the first tenor. Rangy, but worthy addition to any Christmas program. This arrangement of "Away In A manger" seeks to give the lyrics their proper focus. It very effectively catches the mood that was intended with the lyrics, alternating shimmering harmonies with unison lines. Each member of the quartet is featured with one verse per person. This jazz waltz arrangement of "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" is reminiscent of Blue Rondo a la Turk. The top tenor has the melody throughout, sung sweetly above the energetic rhythmic bed of the others. Other than a few slightly tongue twisting lines, this arrangement is not at all difficult, but it is very effective. "What Are The Signs?" This little Alfred Burt Christmas carol is effective on its own or as a prelude to other carols in the program, especially other Burt carols. It begins with a Gregorian chant effect with all voices in a very quiet, low unison, then opens into a beautiful four-part male chorale in its second half. Requires good low range in the second bass part. Songlist: All On a Christmas Morning, What Are the Signs?, Away In a Manger, We Wish You a Merry Christmas Various Arrangers : Men's Vocal Jazz Standards 1 A very happy version of "Sunday" inspired by Sinatra's famous recording. The bass leads in with everyone on words right off the bat. There are fun syncopations and falls in the chorus with a half-step modulation with no pivot chord (a sort of key 'slam'). Saturday Night is the Loneliest Night of the Week quoted in the tag. This is a very fun arrangmenet. "Without A Song" What more can we say? A beautiful song, a beautiful arrangement. 'Over the Raininbow' is a simple, yet beautiful harmonization of the classic tune. 'You Are Too Beautiful' is an easy, yet effective arrangement of this all time Rodgers and Hart ballad, that gives your men's section a chance to really shine! Songlist: Sunday, Without a Song Various Arrangers : Men's Romance This is a nice, simple treatment of the Van Morrison favorite "Moondance". A solo in the second tenor range is true to the melody with some interesting chord subsititutions in the harmony parts. Beginning with a duet between solo and bass, there is plenty of room for some subtle, improvised vocal percussion from the other two voices. A bass part that doesn't get too low makes this a great choice for a young male quartet. An easy, yet effective arrangement of the all time Rodgers and Hart ballad "You Are Too Beautiful", that gives your men's section a chance to really shine! Here's a snappy, toe-tapping rendition of " Let's Get Away From It All". It starts right in on the chorus and cruises along to a big ending. Straight-ahead, very fun to sing, and makes a great show opener. Songlist: Moondance, You Are Too Beautiful, Let's Get Away From It All Various Arrangers : Men's Jazz 1 The arrangement of 'Bye, Bye, Blackbird' is a rubato ballad version of this pretty, old song. There is some re-harmonizaton, but overall the chords remain pretty square. You will find much opportunity to interpret phrasing as you like. The infectious original chart, 'Love Will Find a Way' starts out with a bed of close harmonies that explodes into a funk groove, highlighting a tenor solo. After the ensemble is featured in the bridge, the arrangement moves up a whole step. There is plenty of room for soloing as the tune moves through the chorus and ends with a thick-textured finish. The perfect showcase for your men. The 8-part arrangement of 'Eleanor Rigby' challenges the singer without detracting from the great lyrics. The first two verses can be baritone solos or the entire baritone section in unison. The third verse incorporates some unison and some unusual chord substitutions. The tenor 1 part is mostly in the falsetto range. The tenor 2 part usually falls in the head voice range and is all harmony. Works well as a showcase piece or closer for a male group with strong part-singing skills. Songlist: Love Will Find A Way, Bye, Bye Blackbird, Eleanor Rigby Various Arrangers : Men's Broadway This warm a cappella arrangement of "Maria" beautifully portrays the emotion and thrill of falling in love for the first time. From the Leonard Bernstein classic West Side Story, this is a welcome addition to the TTBB repertoire. From The Little Mermaid, "Kiss The Girl" is in a fantastic a cappella arrangement. Fun Latin rhythms and a variety of vocal inflections make this a great change of pace for any concert! The breathtaking Elton John ballad "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" in a sonorous setting suitable for all a cappella ensembles. From the Broadway classic A Chorus Line, "What I Did For Love" is in an a cappella setting that will leave your audience spellbound! This is every performer's anthem! Songlist: Kiss The Girl, Maria, Can You Feel the Love Tonight?, What I Did For Love Various Arrangers : Christmas Gems for Male Voices Spread a little Christmas cheer with the doo-wop-style arrangement of the classic '50s pop song " Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree". Works great in all the voicings. "A Holly Jolly Christmas" is easily transportable for carorling or other programming options, this doo-wop style a cappella setting of this holiday classic will be a favorite. "We Three Kings" is the exact arrangement from the chart-topping album "Christmas Cheers" by a cappella powerhouse Straight No Chaser. Wild and fun, complete with elements of Mission Impossible, Boys II Men and Reggae. 2 tenor and 1 bass solo. . Irving Berlin's classic " White Christmas " in an exquisite a cappella setting. " Run To The Manger" is an original a cappella Christmas spiritual and is packed with rhythmic vitality and inspiring lyrics. Features a great hook and call-and-response solos. " Follow That Star to Bethlehem" celebrates Christmas with an energized rhythmic drive, an optional soloist, and solid, well-crafted vocal harmonies. An excellent holiday feature! Songlist: White Christmas, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, A Holly Jolly Christmas, We Three Kings Various Arrangers : Men's Jazz Vol. 2 Not to be confused with the sensational A Cappella band with the same name, 'Rockapella' is an original a cappella piece with a slow, almost Baroque opening that builds into a high-intensity groove. Features soloist and doo-wop bass line for added energy. A lot of fun for audience and performers! The lush and comical a cappella arrangement of Tom Lehrer's famous parody, 'I Hold Your Hand in Mine,' is faithful to the original in length and tone. Harmonically, it recalls Gene Puerling with a nod to barbershop. The ranges are well within the limits of a good men's jazz group. Levine added four words after the last chord which should get a big laugh if the audience isn't already in hysterics. 'Rockin Robin' was made popular by Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five. This arrangement, written for four-part men's ensemble with a tenor solo, has tight harmonies and abrupt tempo changes that are sure to keep the audience's attention. Songlist: Rockapella, Rockin' Robin, I Hold Your Hand In Mine |
