Music Capitol of the South Nashville, TN played host to the Barbershop Harmony Society's annual International Chorus competition in 2008, and The Masters of Harmony from Santa Fe Springs, CA, took home the Gold, winning their 7th championship! Here they sing "Wonderful One" and "Yona from Arizona." Ambassadors of Harmony took the Silver, singing "Love Walked In," "Voices of Harmony took 3rd Place Bronze with "In a Shanty in Old Shanty Town," Sound of the Rockies got 4th Place Bronze with "You're from Heaven and You're Mine," and New Tradition won 5th Place Bronze withtheir "This is the Army Mr. Jones"/"Oh How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning" medley. Sixth through twentieth place, The Alliance through Brothers in Harmony, are each represented by one song. These are all live cuts from the stage of the Nashville finals, and you can feel the excitement in the air! "2008 20 Top Choruses" brings us a powerful sampling of Barbershop's best!

The Buzz are a Sweet Adeline supergroup! Comprised of Nancy Fuhrman and bass Jeannie Froelich from City Lights along with baritone Karen Breidert of Jubilation and lead Debbie Connelly of Showtime they were crowned again in Indianapolis as the 2004 International Quartet Champions! These four former Queens of Harmony have come together to create a powerhouse of sound. Their debut CD "Have You Heard" includes "You Turned the Tables on Me" and "No, No, Norman," two of the songs that led them to victory; as well as a "Goodbye Medley" arranged by Tom Gentry with "Bye, Bye Blackbird," "So Long Dearie," "Toot, Toot Tootsie," and "Goodnight Ladies." These four talented women began their musical journey in September of 1994. By their 10th anniversary they had earned 4 Regional Championships and competed six times in the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Contest, placing as high as 24th. "Keepin'" is the group's debut album, 14 spirited, personalized takes on chestnuts like "Blue Skies," "Lazy River," "Don't Break the Heart that Loves You," "It's a Good Day," "Two Tickets to Georgia" medley, "Miss Celie's Blues," "Lullabye of Birdland," "You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby," "Your Make Me Feel So Young" and the final cut, "That's How You Jazz." Michigan Jake's first recording is a hotly anticipated commodity. Beginning with their debut in 1996 (where they placed tenth at Salt Lake), the quartet, from the Cardinal District, has steadily gained traction, pausing temporarily at the number 2 spot in Kansas City. They are odds-on to go all the way next year. Many of their arrangements are by the group's own Mark Hale, Director of the Masters of Harmony Chorus, which says a lot about the caliber of Michigan Jake. They favor the standards of the great American songwriters Kern, Berlin et al, and their sound evokes that elegant and graceful era in style and flavor. Songs such as "Tea For Two" and "Imagination" have an easy swing feel and unaffected delivery that entrances with subtle charm, basking the ear with bright warmth. "Sweet Lorraine" smiles with courtly delight, emphasizing its point with triplets, and sliding into an exuberant finish. Michigan Jake harkens back to the glory days of barbershop while adding a modern freshness and vitality.

The Regents won the Championship by an unprecedented 439 points, a record that apparently still stands. Featuring Joe Mazzone on lead, who had secured first prize in an Arthur Godfrey Talent Program, the line-up competed for the first time in 1971, and finished third (behind Champions Dealer's Choice) in 1973. This recording includes several classic seventies pop songs, such as "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," "Theme From The Godfather," and "We've Only Just Begun," which would have made them cutting edge back then...plus "Hi Neighbor (Medley)," (including "Zippity Doo Dah"), "Little Somebody Of Mine" and "Knee Deep In Daisies" and lots more, for 22 in all.

The Masters of Harmony won gold for the eighth time in Kansas City this year. Silver went to Great Northern Union and bronze to The Northern Lights.

Rosemary Clooney's career began in 1945, singing duets with her sister Betty for WLW Radio in Cincinnati. In 1947, they joined the Pastor band as "The Clooney Sisters," making their debut at The Steel Pier in Atlantic City. Two years later, Rosemary signed a solo recording contract with Columbia Records. Clooney recorded her first single, "Come On-a My House," in 1951. It was an immediate and enormous success and catapulted Rosemary to stardom. Her horizons soon expanded to include motion pictures, including the classic "White Christmas" in 1954. In 1956-1957 "The Rosemary Clooney Show" joined CBS television's weekly variety show lineup. Clooney also gave birth to five children, Miguel, Maria, Gabriel, Monsita, and Rafael, between February 1955 and March 1960. This program includes a compilation of 19 musical performances by Rosemary from her 1950's television program, The Rosemary Clooney Show including My Blue Heaven and Mambo Italiano.
