The first track, "The Flintstones Theme," complete with Fred's "Wilma" holler, wins over the listener immediately; "Blackbird," sung a cappella, is rendered as a sort of jazz hymn, fleshing out the progression with counterpoint and extending the phrases. "Embraceable You" becomes three dimensional, it's so depthful. "You Go To My Head" has become something of a signature tune for Beachfront: the richness and texture of the Singers Unlimited, without encumbering the essence of the song with unnecessary ornamentation. Terrific. Songlist: The Flintstones' Theme, Blackbird, Hurry On Down, Embraceable You, Born To Be Blue, You Go To My Head, Ring-A-Ding-Ding, It Had To Be You, You Made Me Love You, The Summer Knows, My Kind Of Girl, Sophisticated Lady, I Remember You, Wave The Four Freshmen : 5 Trombones / 5 Saxes It's a twofer! Two classic albums are included on this CD of one of the great male quartets of the twentieth century! Their ability to maintain perfect intervals in vertical harmony is legendary. Fortunately the legend lives anew as almost every one of their tremendous discography has now been remastered for CD. Songlist: Liza, You've Got Me Cryin' Again, This Can't Be Love, The Very Thought Of You, East of the Sun, I May Be Wrong, There's No One But You, Sometimes I'm Happy, For All We Know, Lullaby in Rhythm, This Love Of Mine, I Get Along Without You Very Well, That's The Way I Feel, You're So Far Above Me, He Who Loves and Runs Away, What's It Gonna Be?, How Can I Begin To Ell?, Angel Eyes, Love Is Just Around the Corner, Mam'selle, Speak Low, The Last Time I Saw Paris, Somwbody Loves Me, You Stepped Out Of A Dream, I Remember You, Love, Love Is Here To Stay, You Made Me Love You, Guilty Four Voices : II The four Christian young men who are Cleveland, Tennessee-based Barbershop group Four Voices won the Gold at SPEBSQSA's 2002 convention in Portland, and "II" shows us all the faith, charisma, humor and rock-solid harmonies that caught the ear of the judges. 12 songs, "No No Nora," "The One I Love," "You Made Me Love You," "Charleston," "Lazybones," "After You've Gone," "My Mother's Eyes," "Muppet Show," "If I Only Had a Brain," "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" and "Lamb of God." You know the kind of barbershop chord that goes on longer than it's possible to hold your breath, and rises to a chord so high and sweet, the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? Four Voices sings those kind of chords--simply the best! Songlist: No No Nora, The One I Love, You Made Me Love You, Charleston, Lazybones, After You've Gone (Live), My Mother's Eyes, Muppet Show, If I Only Had A Brain, Yes Sir, That's My Baby, Lamb of God Happiness Emporium : That's Life Dedicated to longtime arranger Ed Waesche, who is an integral part of the Emporium's style, "That's Life" delivers a big bang for the buck! Full of "sets," such as the School Days, Camping, and Child, as well as a "Showboat Medley," "Broadway Intro" and many more, these 1975 gold medalists keep it coming! Their sound anticipates the contemporary arranging style that would be popularized by today's luminaries ("Why Do They Take The Night Boat To Albany"), while retaining the comfortable stability of the familiar. Songlist: Child Set, School Days Set, Camping Set, Why Do They All Take The Night Boat To Albany, Marriage Set, You Made Me Love You, Daddy, Don't You Walk So Fast, When I Grow Too Old To Dream, This Old House, That's Life, Broadway Intro, Showboat Medley, Toyland, My Baby Just Cares For Me, Close As Pages In A Book, What I Did For Love, Motherhood March King Sisters : Queens Of Song The lovely King Sisters, hailing from Utah, were six in number, though the group usually featured four at a time, allowing for flexibility as family commitments encroached. Having been influenced by the Boswell Sisters, they sought fame and fortune in the early thirties, and began singing with bandleader Horace Heidt. Their success continued into the forties and fifties, as contemporaries of the Andrews and McGuire Sisters, and even into the 1960's, when they had their own television program, "The King Family Show." With their orchestra, conducted by Frank DeVol, the girls produced a slew of close harmony classics, from the wistful ballad, as in "The Day You Came Along" and "I Don't Know Why," to the cheerful "Cielito Linda," "You Made Me Love You" and "Pagan Love Song"; and who could forget "When The Swallows Came Back To Capistrano"? What a trip down memory lane! Songlist: Memories of You, It's Easy to Remember, When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano, I May Be Wrong, Pagan Love Song, Miss Otis Regrets, I Don't Know Why, Cielito Linda, Basin Street Blues, The Day You Came Along, An Old Guitar and an Old Refrain, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Why Should I Cry Over You, You Made Me Love You, St. Louis Blues, I've Had My Moments, Stars Fell On Alabama, East of the Sun, By the River Sainte Marie, All Of Me, Love is the Thing, Don't Worry 'Bout Me, Stomping at TheSavoy Lennon Sisters : Yesterday & Today The smooth, blended harmonies of the Lennon Sisters, their discovery by Lawrence Welk and their many appearances on his show and Andy Williams', all these things you know. Well, here are 18 (accompanied) songs, the "best of " the Lennon Sisters. Smooth and sweet, slightly jazzy at times - this is happy music, slow-dancing music. Included are several wonderful 50s pictures of the girls, in costume and with Welk, and sweet little remembrances about each song by Kathy Lennon. "Sentimental Journey," "Anniversary Song," "You Made Me Love You," "Scarlet Ribbons," "Fascination" and a personal favorite, "Theme From 'A Summer Place." You get the picture - the Sisters harmonize even sweeter than you remember or could imagine! Songlist: Sentimental Journey, Anniversary Song, You Made Me Love You, Scarlet Ribbons, Vaya Con Dios, When I Fall In Love, There I've Said It Again, Greensleeves, Now Is The Hour, Melody of Love, This Is My Song, Fascination, Theme From a Summer Place, You Are So Beautiful, Can't Help Falling In Love, Scarborough Fair, Autumn Leaves, You'll Never Walk Alone Melodeers : Mission Accomplished The current Sweet Adelines Chorus Champions, the Melodeers, directed by Jim Arns, have crafted a proficient recording of Sweet Adelines classics, standards and even the "Hallelujah Chorus." "The Auctioneer's Song" is a lively and comic tongue-twister; the understated introduction of "I Remember You" soon gives way to a brisk swing feel, while "Orange Colored Sky" practically gallops to the finish line. "Mamma Goes Where Papa Goes" features dramatic pitch deceleration in its opening verse-an attention-getting device used effectively here. The racuous "Blues Bros. Medley" (recorded live, as were several of the tracks) red-lines it throughout-The Melodeers have energy to spare and constitutions that thrive on very little oxygen! "Mission Accomplished" indeed! Songlist: Floatin' Down to Cotton Town, Forgive Me, For Sentimental Reasons, The Auctioneer Song, You're the Spirit of Sweet Adelines, I Remember You, Orange Colored Sky, Mamma Goes Where Papa Goes, You Keep Coming Back Like a Song, Hallelujah Chorus, You Made Me Love You, Blues Brothers Medley Merry Macs : Mairzy Doats The Merry Macs first formed as a trio in themid-1920s by the 3 McMichael brothers, baritone Ted and tenors Judd and Joe. After touring with bandleader Joe Haymes, in 1930 they added vocalist Cheri McKay (replaced by Helen Carroll in 1938), and began a 40+ year career recording, touring with swing bands like Glenn Miller's, and appearing on radio, television and in several movies. The first 14 hits are all representative of their trademark serio-comic, uptempo repertoire (all swing band accompanied): Smooth, funny, classic stuff! Songlist: Pop Goes the Weasel, I Got Rings On My Fingers, Ta-Hu-Wa-Hu-Wai (Hawaiian War Chant), A-Ruble A-Rhumba, La Paloma, I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles, Vol Vistu Gaily Star, Clap Yo' Hands, Breezin' Along with the Breeze, Ma, He's Makin' Eyes At Me, Johnson Rag, I Get the Blues When It Rains, The Way You Look Tonight, Isn't That Just Like Love?, with Bing Crosby:, Do You Ever Think of Me?, You Made Me Love You, Dolores, Pale Moon, The Hut-Sut Song, Deep In the Heart of Texas, Breathless, Jingle, Jangle, Jingle, Mairzy Doats and Dozy Doats, Pretty Kitty Blue Eyes, Sentimental Journey, Laughing on the Outside Pittsburghers : Pittsburghers Society Champions in 1948, the Pittsburghers were trailblazers. They were the first to perform written arrangements and a key change in a contest. Featured on this album are anecdotes as told by one of the original members, Tom Palamone. It is replete with classic barbershop songs like "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and "Oh, What a Gal Was Mary." Most of them were written in the 1920's and '30's, and are liberally laced with double entendres. "You Can Never Be Too Sure About the Girls" is a charming example. Though the sound quality is not ideal, the expert handling of the material - and its merit as a keepsake of the era - is indisputable. Songlist: A Cop on the Beat, Give Me a Night In June, Good Little/Bad Little You, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, You Never Can Be Too Sure About the Girls, Chinese Honeymoon, I'm Sittin' on Top of the World, Somebody Knows, Oh What A Gal Was Mary/Mary Is a Grand Old Name, Oahu, Pebble In a Pool, Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone, Curse of an Aching Heart, Kill 'em With Kindness, Old Killarney, Darktown Strutters' Ball, Make Yourself at Home at My Home, Many Tears Ago, My Mother's Rosary, Sweet Adeline, Home Again Blues, When Your Old Wedding Ring Was New, You Made Me Love You, When I Lost You |
