Tennessee-based The Acappella Company is a prolific mixed Contemporary Christian chorus, and "In His Presence" is part of their 3-part "Praise and Worship" series. The size of the group their names or a photo are conspicuously absent from the liner notes, which only have the lyrics to all this original music, written mostly by Keith Lancaster, John K. Green and Gary Miller. We feel that this is purposely done, placing the focus on the music and the message and taking it away from the singers-and we find this authentic and refreshing. That description also applies to the music, all joyous a cappella. 16 feel-good songs, from "God Has Smiled On Me," "Let Us Worship" and "He Will Be Raised Up," to "The Lord Reigns Forever," the title tune and "Jesus Will Fix It." The A Cappella Company has always been one of our favorites, and we especially like this series! Recommended.

The ministry of Paris, Tennessee's The Acappella Company and Keith Lancaster continues beautifully with the Lancaster-produced "Heaven and Earth" by the four young men who call themselves Acappella. Lancaster's writing talents are everywhere on this CD, "War With Myself," "Emergency," "You Are There," "Glory and Honor," "Gone Away" and "Take Me There" feature words and music by himself or with the group. The group's Gary Evans wrote "Y.R.A.G. Radio Segue," "Dime Rhyme Segue" was written by Matt Nunnally, and Nicolas Dunbar shared writing credits on "War With Myself" and "Take Me There." 12 strong cuts, notable for their contemporary sound and feel, with flavors of hip-hop, jazz, r&b and other genres, with steady, understated guest beatbox by Tony Brown. But the message of Christian faith and belief shines strongly throughout, riding the natural vocal talents and deep feeling of these extraordinary young men. One of the best Contemporary Christian CDs we've ever heard!

The talented three men and three women from Los Angeles who call themselves Sixth Wave first got together in 1999 with the worthy goal of singing in the National Harmony Sweepstakes. To their surprise and our delight, they won the 2001 Finals, and they accomplished their second goal of recording their first excellent CD that same year. Appearing with the luminaries of the a cappella world, The Bobs, Rockapella, Swingle Singers, m-pact and The Perfect Gentlemen, they went to work on "It Will Come to You," their second CD, containing collaborations with Gabriel Mann, Joe Bob Finetti and Michelle Weir, as well as their first three original tunes, Gerald White's "You'll Always Remember the Song," Cindy Bourquin and Gerald's title tune, and a jazz tune by their friend Kent Carlson, "She's Been Around The Block." We have to say right off that "It Will Come" is the best jazz CD we have heard in a long time. From a stellar arrangement of Sting's "Fragile," a sweet cover of the manic jazz chestnut "Twisted," and absolutely nailing Aerosmith's rock anthem "Dream On," to incredibly arranged covers of "Strange Magic," Santana's "Oye Como Va" and a "William Tell Overture" cover that would make not only the Swingles but Rossini himself look over his shoulder, this CD is unbelievably good. The jazz classic "Jeannine," with vocal percussion by Joe Bob, totally soars, and an "Earth, Wind and Fire Medley" that incongruously includes Lennon/McCartney's "Got To Get You Into My Life," with the EWF disco hits "September," "After The Love Is Gone" and "Sing A Song," has to be heard to be believed. We loved Sixth Wave at the finals, and we love this CD!!

Georgia-based State Line Grocery formed in July of 2003 and won the Dixie District Quartet Championship in the fall of that same year. Lead Tim Brooks, Tenor Dylan Oxford, Bass Drew McMillan and Baritone Mark Lamback recently finished 3th with a strong performance at the 2008 BHS International competition that was held in Nashville, Tennesee. "Restocked" has 14 tunes, some of our favorites are Stephen Sondheim's "Everything's Coming Up Roses," Irving Berlin's "Isn't This a Lovely Day," Young and Ahlert's "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter," "Danny Boy," Hank Williams' "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Blue Moon of Kentucky," "The Tennessee Waltz," "Glad Rag Doll," "Over the Sunset Mountains" and Frishberg and Mandel's "You Are There." State Line has a rich, spirited sound with tight harmonies, ringing chords and wonderful arrangements. Combine that with their love of singing with each other, and you have one of the elite quartets in the world. "Restocked" is great Barbershop from the first song to the last powerful chord!
