"Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North used the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

"Hearts Desire" has 17 soulful cuts, eight that are pure a cappella, the title tune, "I'll Stop Wanting You," "My Girlfriend," "Secret Love," "10 Commandments of Love," "Danny Boy," "Pennies from Heaven" and "Over the Rainbow;" eight accompanied by a band, such as "The Way You Look Tonight," "The Verdict," "Recess in Heaven," "Loraine," "Unchained Melody" and "Darling You," and one instrumental, "Harlem Nocturne." Most of these are standard covers, nicely done, and some we're hearing for the first time. All in all, "Heart's Desire" is a trip back to a simpler time, when you could hear a new, exciting American art form being born, on the radio, in a concert hall or even on a street corner! Songlist: Heart's Desire, I'll Stop Wanting You, My Girlfriend, Secret Love, Ten Commandments of Love, Danny Boy, Pennies From Heaven, Over The Rainbow, The Way You Look Tonight, Until The Real Thing Comes Along, The Verdict, Recess In Heaven, Loraine, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Unchained Melody, Darling You, Harlem Nocturne The Alley Cats : Greatest Hits One of our favorite all-male Doo-Wop quartets of all time, The Alley Cats first got together for some streetcorner harmonizing at Fullerton College (CA) in 1987, were the Disney house Doo-Wop band and won the LA Harmony Sweeps Regional. So we had our chance to be blown away by their dynamic and hilarious live act at both the West Coast A Cappella Summit as well as at the Harmony Sweeps National Finals. "Greatest Hits" is of course a "Best Of," featuring winners like "Don't Be Cruel" and "Sh-Boom" from their best-selling CD "The Doo-Wop Drive-In Live;" "Remember Then" from the CD "Strike #!;" "Morse Code of Love" and "Love Potion #9" from "Cruisin';" "Little Darlin'," "Come Go With Me" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (the best we've ever heard it) from "The Cat's Meow;" plus two never released cuts, "The Longest Time" and "Unchained Melody." Also included are 5 stellar cuts from their new live show, "Bandstand Boogie," "Rock Around The Clock," "Sherry," "Higher and Higher" and Tennessee Ernie Ford's deathless top-40 hit "Sixteen Tons." And finally, the Cats' very first, very hot original Doo-Wop song, "You Make Me Weak!" "Greatest Hits" is a Doo-Wop party, Big Fun from first cut to the 17th-don't miss this one! Songlist: You Make Me Weak, Bandstand Boogie, Rock Around the Clock, Sherry, Higher and Higher, Sixteen Tons, Come Go With Me, Little Darlin', The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Morse Code of Love, A Cappella, Love Potion #9, Remember Then, Don't Be Cruel, Sh' Boom, The Longest Time, Unchained Melody Alti & Bassi : Take Five! Talented all-male Italian pop/jazz quintet Alti & Bassi's "Take 5," whose cover features an open box of chocolates with musical notes on them, is, fittingly, a sampler CD of 5 songs: an amazingly jazzy cover of "Silent Night," a wonderfully harmonic version of the classic "Unchained Melody," the traditional Spiritual "Nobody Knows," a jazzy, surprisingly arranged "White Christmas" (which segues into the title tune, and "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from Disney's Cinderella, which segues into a walking jazzy "Take 5. All these are pure a cappella, which really shows off Alti & Bassi's vocal talents. We like this group's song selection, hip arrangements, energy, spirit, sweet leads and solid background harmonies. Help yourself to a taste of Alti & Bassi, fresh pop/jazz from Italy! Songlist: Silent Night, Unchained Melody, Nobody Knows, White Christmas, A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes Boomerz : Street Corner Harmony The five men of Tampa, FL, the Boomerz have a rich, deep-bassed Doo Wop sound and are blessed with good arrangements and song selection on these 16 authentic tunes. Listen to "Looking For an Echo," an amazing autobiographical song that also tells the story of Doo Wop. "In the Still of the Night," a Doo Wop "Over the Rainbow," the accompanied finger-snapping cover of the Earls¹ "Remember Then," the classic "Da Do Ron Ron," a sweet Boomerz original, "Sunday Kind of Love," "Rama Lama Ding Dong," a nicely done "Blue Moon," "Lonely Way," an interestingly up-speed arrangement of "Unchained Melody," "Tell Me Why," "Loving You," "Who¹s That Knocking," and finishing with a lovely "When I Fall In Love," these have the kind of harmonies that once attracted singers to streetcorners like moths to a flame! Songlist: Just Over The Brooklyn Bridge, Looking For An Echo, Remember Then, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, In The Still Of The Night, My Own True Love, Da Doo Ron Ron, A Sunday Kind of Love, Rama Lama Ding Dong, Blue Moon, Lonely Way, Unchained Melody, Tell Me Why, Loving You, Who's That Knocking, When I Fall In Love Innsiders : Masterwork Series As the 1976 SPEBSQSA International Champions, The Innsiders climaxed a storied career which included several top 10 finishes in the competition. This quartet's love of singing and their steadfast devotion to their art along with a strong work ethic and lots of talent took them to greatness. This compilation of their master works has been released under the watchful eyes of former member Brian Beck, so you are sure to hear the best that The Innsiders had to offer. Some of our favorite songs include "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Ghost Riders In The Sky," and "Till We Meet Again." Twenty-five tracks. Varying in size from 95 to 138 men, TNTC won their first SPEBSQSA medal in 1987, which began a remarkable streak of success in international chorus competition. They medaled every year, including a record 5 Silver medals in a row, until they finally grabbed the Gold in 2001! "Bandstand" is generous collection of 13 tunes and medleys that will warm your heart as well as that of your favorite jukebox, some of our favorites are the medleys: "50s Medley," "Jersey Boys Medley" containing the hits "Let's Hang On," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Working My Way Back to You" and "Walk Like a Man" and "Smile Medley;" "Bandstand Boogie," Roger Miller's crossover hit "King of the Road," The Turtles' bubblegum classicHappy Together," John Phillips' sweet Mamas and Papas anthem "Monday, Monday," Len "non/McCartney's "Lady Madonna," Harold Arlen's "Over the Rainbow" and "Wind Beneath My Wings/You Raise Me Up" by Larry Henley and Jeff Silbar. Director Giallombardo does most of the arrangements for his thoroughbred competition and performance band, and every cut is an entertaining, powerful, richly harmonic winner. Treat yourself to "Bandstand" by the continually amazing New Tradition Chorus! Songlist: Bandstand Boogie, 50's Medley, King Of the Road, Unchained Melody, Happy Together, Jersey Boys Melody, Daydream, Monday, Monday, Lady Madonna, All The Gold In California, Over The Rainbow, Smile Medley, Wind Beneath My Wings / You Raise Me Up The Norman Luboff Choir : Ticket To The Movies Here are 19 songs, all from the movies, all arranged and conducted by Norman Luboff, A true musical eclectic, Luboff was driven to render every piece with a painstaking exactitude and an arrangement that immediately defined it as a Luboff performance. His choir toured annually from from 1963 until Luboff's death in 1987, and recorded more than 75 albums. This perfectionism is clear on every cut of every Luboff album, of which four, from 1961-65, are represented here. "All the Things You Are," "It Had to Be You," "As Time Goes By" (which Sam played again in "Casablanca," but actually was from the 1931 musical "Everybody's Welcome"), the title tunes from "My Foolish Heart," "Days of Wine and Roses," "High Noon," "On Green Dolphin Street," "An Affair to Remember," "Ruby" (from "Ruby Gentry") and "Laura," the lovely "Unchained Melody," "I'll Get By," "The Song from Moulin Rouge" ("Where is Your Heart"), and Irving Berlin's wonderful "Remember." Luboff is an American master, and his choir is one of the most powerful vocal groups of all time. Sure, all songs are gently accompanied, but the focus is on the smooth-as-maple syrup harmonies. These songs unabashedly tug at our heartstrings and push every romantic and sentimental button, and all we can say is, "highly recommended!" Songlist: All the Things You Are, My Foolish Heart, High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me), An Affair to Remember, Darling My Darling, As Time Goes By, Days of Wine and Roses, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo, Younger than Springtime, It's Magic, On Green Dolphin Street, It Had To Be You, Ruby, Stella By Starlight, I'll See You Again, Unchained Melody, Laura, I'll Get By (As Long As I Have You), The Song from "Moulin Rouge" (Where Is Your Heart?), Remember UNC Vocal Jazz Ensembles : Hot XIII: It Ain't Necessarily So The University of Northern Colorado is one of the most well respected educational centers for vocal jazz studies thanks to the efforts of Gene Aitken, the director of the program since 1976. You will not believe that these are all "students" for their singing is so good and the arrangements so sophisticated it doesn't seem possible, even though it is true. The bulk of the album, 14 of the 17 tracks, is sung by Et Cetera a mixed sextet. Though jazz predominates with such selections as "For The One I Love" and "As Rain" by Anders Edenroth of the Real Group or "One More Time Chuck Corea" by Gene Puerling, there is a strong rock 'n roll presence. The final three tunes were recorded live by a larger jazz chorus, Vocal Jazz I. Discover this one! It's a sleeper. Songlist: It Ain't Necessarily So, Episode: Prelude, For The One I Love, Every Breath You Take, Kiss From A Rose, Kite, Out Of Town, Shambala, Gone With The Wind, I'll Be There For You, As Rain, Won't You Be My Neighbor, One More Time Chuck Corea, Unchained Melody, Vocal Jazz I, Brasilia, Move On Over, Harvest Vocal Majority : With Strings Vol 2 Let the Vocal Majority Chorus transport you back to those memorable days of the 60s and 70s in this release.
