During their early career they recorded in an acoustic gospel-folk style with various labels: United Records, Vee-Jay Records, Riverside Records, and then Epic Records in 1965. This bluesy arrangement of the traditional spiritual is full of fun and easy to learn as well. Available: 2-Part.
Arranger: Emily Crocker
This Train was first arranged for the Los Angeles Master Chorale Outreach Ensemble in the mid 1980's. It was revived and rearranged to include a children's chorus for the Gregg Smith Singers third concert in their 1999 New York City Series which was held at St. Peter's Church in Manhatten with the Central Park East Elementaqry School Choir and, of course, the Gregg Smith Singers. The piano part is written to simulate the feel of a banjo as the primary accompanying force. The children's chorus part at the end, as indicated in the score, contains an optional divisi into three parts. If desired, sopranos from the SATB chorus may sing any of these notes. American Folk Song
Duration 2:30
Composer: Dale Jergenson | Country: American Folk
The traditional spiritual is arranged in a bit of a folk-rock style, with a highly syncopated and involved bass line in the piano typical of that played by an electric bass. On an eight-bar section about half way through, two groups of singers use non-pitched sounds to great effect to create the sound of an old locomotive. This is a developed arrangement that makes a crowd pleasing concert piece.Cambiata part is optional
Arranger: Peter Frost
