From the 1938 Rodgers and Hart musical The Boys from Syracuse. It was also included in the 1962 musical film, Billy Rose's Jumbo, though most of the songs in that film came from the 1935 Rodgers & Hart musical Jumbo. The lyrics poke fun of the common depiction of love in popular songs as a host of malignant symptoms, saying, "This can't be love because I feel so well."
The song was a hit for the orchestras of Eddy Duchin and Benny Goodman in late 1938 and early 1939.

Close Harmony Popular Classics : A Fine Romance & 4 Other Songs Four popular classics by the likes of Jerome Kern and Cole Porter have been lovingly arranged as close-harmony songs for men's voices. Capturing perfectly the mood and spirit of the original Broadway favourites, David Nield presents a programme of guaranteed crowd-pleasers that continue to transcend fashion as the years go by, brimming with the swing and swagger of the Barbershop style. Arranged for a quartet of Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass voices, each piece includes a Piano accompaniment for easier rehearsal. Nield's ingenuous and effervescent writing sparkles with jazzy energy without ever becoming difficult to sing. The close-harmony style not only presents a uniquely satisfying and playful challenge to the singers, but will also delight and amuse audiences everywhere, no matter what the occasion! Guest conductor Duane Shields Davis also directs a version of Gold Company and the Band here, as well as doing the dynamic arrangements for Rodgers & Hart's "This Can't Be Love" and Cole Porter's "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye." Other favorites are the George Gershwin standard "I Got Rhythm, a scattish, salsa take on Caesar & Youman's "Tea for Two," a pair of originals written and arranged by student Tenor Mark Jackson, "Pure Gold," "We're Here for You" and "Go For The Gold;" Gillies & Foster's power ballad "Stand Up for Love," the a cappella version of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee," arranged, of course by Ward Swingle, Bobby McFerrin's sublime a cappella "In The Garden," and the Glenn Miller Classic that bears the name of the home of Western Michigan, "I've Got a Gal in Kalamazoo." Dr. Zegree has led Gold Company in winning a fistful of DownBeat Magazine awards and a reputation as one of the most respected Collegiate Vocal Bands in the world. Every one of these cuts is as hot, or cool, as we like it, and we're sure you'll also love "Who could ask for anything more!" Songlist: I Got Rhythm, This Can't Be Love, Tea For Two, Pure Gold, Prisoner Of Love, In The Stone, Stand Up For Love, Flight Of The Bumble Bee, We're Here For You, Quiet Night Of Quiet Stars, Go For The Gold, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye, The Garden, I Believe, I've Got a Gal In Kalamazoo The Four Freshmen : Easy Street DVD "Easy Street" is a rare treat, an opportunity to see the Four Freshmen (Bob Flanigan, Ken Albers and the Barbour brothers, Don and Ross) in their prime, in a live (black and white) performance on the Ray Anthony show in 1956! Featured are 21 of the 4F's favorite pop hits: "Day By Day," "You're So Far Above Me," "Charmaine," "Got A Date With an Angel," The Day Isn't Long Enough," "How Do You Like Your Eggs in the Morning," "Someone Like You," "Graduation Day," "There'll Never Be Another You," the title tune, and our personal favorite, "It's a Blue World." The four play their own instruments, or act in little skits, singing "You Stepped Out of a Dream" to a librarian who tries to keep her composure, for instance. It's a corny 1956 variety show, the Four Freshmen are singing with their bright, fresh sound and ringing harmonies, and we've got a front-row seat!"
