Songlist: Circle Of Life, I Just Can't Wait To Be King, Hakuna Matata, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, He Lives In You, Remember, Never Too Late, Spirit, Stampede, Nants' Ingonyama, Battle For Pride Rock, Be Prepared (2019), Rafiki's Fireflies, Scar Takes The Throne, Simba Is Alive!, The Lion Sleeps Tonight 17th Avenue All-Stars : Doo Wop Gold The four men and one woman of the Colorado-based 17th Avenue Allstars have been singing sweet Pop harmonies together for over a decade since their beginnings in Denver CO, and are no strangers to Harmony Sweepstakes audiences--they have won the Western Regional 3 times, and the whole enchilada, the National Championship, in 1993. Their repertoire includes 5 decades of popular music: 40's Swing, 50's Rock and Roll, 60's and 70's R&B and 80's and 90's Pop. "Doo Wop Gold," their fifth excellent CD, includes 12 classic, beautifully-arranged Doo Wop hits that would certainly rank in our top 20 of all time: "Remember When/I Wonder Why," "Sh-Boom," "I Only Have Eyes For You," "Blue Moon," "Rockin' Robin," "Come Go With Me," "Lonely Teardrops," "In The Still Of The Night," "Morse Code Of Love," "Get A Job" and "Trickle Trickle;" finishing with a tasty "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Consummate entertainers whether they are performing their award-winning show at a family concert, large scale music festival or corporate party, "Gold" is ample proof that the Allstars are still one of the best Doo Wop groups we've ever had the pleasure to hear. Songlist: Remember Then - I Wonder Why, Sh-Boom, I Only Have Eyes for You, Blue Moon, Rockin' Robin, Come Go With Me, Lonely Teardrops, In the Still of the Night, Morse Code of Love, Get A Job, Trickle Trickle, The Lion Sleeps Tonight Ac Rock : Out Of The Box "Box" is the fourth excellent CD by all-male Chicago quartet Ac Rock (pronounced Ak-Rock), who are into a cappella Rock n' Roll, and just keep getting better at singing and arranging it! Paul, JD, Mark & Chris share solos on these 14 songs (actually 18, considering the final cut, "Best of Doo-Wop" includes "Duke of Earl," "The Book of Love," "Get A Job" and the Harmony Sweeps anthem "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight"). Just listen to cut #9, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (before a live audience at an elementary school in Wilmington, IL) if you want to see how much these guys (a) love their work, and (b) have big fun in concert. It's hard to pick favorites here, but "Who Put The Bomp," Brian Wilson's "Little Deuce Coupe," the Drifters' "Under The Boardwalk," Maurice White's "Shining Star," Hanson's "MMMBop," and James Brown's "I Got You (I Feel Good)" (which segues into a short, surreal sample of Strauss' "Blue Danube"), and a nice original by Mark, "Get Out The Way" will do for starters. See these guys live if you can, and get a sweet taste of their good stuff on "Out of the Box!". Then, after you've listened, put Out Of The Box in your computer (PC or Mac) and check out the amazing Enhanced Content: the Ac Rock Concentration game, The Ac Rock Sound Machine, a QuickTime Virtual Reality walkaround of the AcRock sculpture, and interactive bios for all of the guys. A free multi-media bonus that appeals to all ages! Songlist: Shining Star, Absolutely Right, Happy Together, Who Put The Bomp (In The Bomp Ba Bomp Ba Bomp), Under the Boardwalk, I Got You (I Feel Good), (So Nice) Blue Danube, Get Out the Way, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Little Deuce Coupe, Pretty Little Angel Eyes, MMMBop, So Fine, Duke of Earl, Book of Love, Get A Job, Goodnight The Alley Cats : Cat's Meow The enthusiasm of the Alley Cats is so infectious and their energy so buoyant that they can make you like any song they sing. It's true! Having gotten their start at Disneyland's 'Magic Kingdom,' they exhibit a merry disposition that bursts through even on CD-they cannot be contained! A host of classic tunes such as 'Book Of Love,' 'Don't Be Cruel' and 'Duke Of Earl,' which could be perfunctory in lesser hands, are pounced on by the Alley Cats, and are the better for it. The arrangements are familiar but with a little added pizazz (we'd encourage more!), the intonation crisp, the rhythms fluid. A highly professional and entertaining recording. Songlist: Rama Lama Ding Dong, Sh-Boom, Come Go With Me, Sixty Minute Man, At The Hop, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Book Of Love, Duke Of Earl, Little Darlin', In The Still Of The Night, Don't Be Cruel, Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight, Alley Cat Tag The Alley Cats : Greatest Hits One of our favorite all-male Doo-Wop quartets of all time, The Alley Cats first got together for some streetcorner harmonizing at Fullerton College (CA) in 1987, were the Disney house Doo-Wop band and won the LA Harmony Sweeps Regional. So we had our chance to be blown away by their dynamic and hilarious live act at both the West Coast A Cappella Summit as well as at the Harmony Sweeps National Finals. "Greatest Hits" is of course a "Best Of," featuring winners like "Don't Be Cruel" and "Sh-Boom" from their best-selling CD "The Doo-Wop Drive-In Live;" "Remember Then" from the CD "Strike #!;" "Morse Code of Love" and "Love Potion #9" from "Cruisin';" "Little Darlin'," "Come Go With Me" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (the best we've ever heard it) from "The Cat's Meow;" plus two never released cuts, "The Longest Time" and "Unchained Melody." Also included are 5 stellar cuts from their new live show, "Bandstand Boogie," "Rock Around The Clock," "Sherry," "Higher and Higher" and Tennessee Ernie Ford's deathless top-40 hit "Sixteen Tons." And finally, the Cats' very first, very hot original Doo-Wop song, "You Make Me Weak!" "Greatest Hits" is a Doo-Wop party, Big Fun from first cut to the 17th-don't miss this one! Songlist: You Make Me Weak, Bandstand Boogie, Rock Around the Clock, Sherry, Higher and Higher, Sixteen Tons, Come Go With Me, Little Darlin', The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Morse Code of Love, A Cappella, Love Potion #9, Remember Then, Don't Be Cruel, Sh' Boom, The Longest Time, Unchained Melody Boyz Nite Out : American Vinyl Sacramento, CA-based all-male sextet BNO first got together in a 4-bedroom house 8 years ago, and discovered the kind of chemistry that you find in the bigtime, big city groups. "Vinyl" is their third CD, after the excellent "Rho Sham Bo" and "Director's Cut." 17 songs, from the Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'," "Fire" and "Come Go with Me" to remarkable vocal percussion on Lennon/McCartney's "Come Together" and on the Drifters' "Under The Boardwalk," this is great stuff. "Brown-Eyed Girl," "Footloose," "The Still Of The Night," the Righteous Bros' "My Girl," the Motown hit "Grapevine," the Doors' "People Are Strange"--the hits just keep on coming. What we love about BNO, besides their song selection, is a) their energy, spirit and love of the music, b) their great arrangements and vocal percussion, c) they're spot on key, and d) they nail every song, as you absolutely know they do in a live performance. Great stuff! Songlist: Soundtrack (Takin' You Back), Gimme Some Lovin', Fire, Come and Go With Me, Come Together, Under the Boardwalk, Brown Eyed Girl, Only You (And You Alone), Footloose, Change The World, Still of the Night, Hooch, My Girl, With Or Without You, Grapevine, The People Are Strange, The Lion Sleeps Tonight BQE : Acappella Starlight Sessions "BQE, originated in the early 1980's as a NYC quintet with 3 members from Brooklyn, and two from Queens. The named initials BQE actually stood for The Brooklyn Queens Express and not the notorious Expressway, as most believed. The Group recorded on eight compilation CD's for Bob Kretzschmar's "Starlight Serenade" Label, A Best Of BQE CD for Collectables and The Clifton Music Compilation CD "Christmas In Harmony" for Ronnie Italiano's "Clifton Music" label. It was the BQE cut of "Count Down To Love" that was picked by "Rhino" records to go on the A cappella Disc of the 4 CD "DooWop Vol 3" BoxÊSet. The group was a premier vocal group of its time, as stated in The Jay Warner "Billboard's Book Of American Singing groups, the 1940's through the 1990's". Pictured above from Left to Right: Jerry Pilgrim, Dennis Kestenbaum, Jason Levine, Les Levine (seated) Songlist: Be Sure My Love, Pretty Little Angel Eyes, Sherry, The Wanderer, I Love You, My Prayer, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Countdown To Love, What Time Is It?, Tonight I Fell In Love, Chain Gang / Cupid, Tonight Could Be The Night, Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart, I Count The Tears, Teardrops, Have You Heard, Naturally, Please Be My Girlfriend, The Way You Do The Things You Do, The Lion Sleeps Tonight Brylcream : Rockin' The Neighborhood Naples, Florida's own Brylcream, 'A Little Dab of Doo-Wop,' is John 'Wopp' Mina, Richie Beattie, Tom 'Cool-T' Welter, Gary 'G Man' Groneman and Ray 'Wolfman' Conklin. 'Rockin'' has 16 tight, sweet Doo-Wop standards: 'Barbara Ann,' 'Lion Sleeps Tonight,' 'Book of Love,' 'River of Dreams,' 'Teardrops,' 'Run Around Sue,' 'Mr. Blue,' 'Teenager In Love,' our personal favorite, 'Rockin' The Neighborhood,' and 'Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay'-and if anyone needs proof of that, just listen to Brylcream, some of the best Doo-Woppers we've heard. All A Cappella. Songlist: Barbara Ann, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Book Of Love, Rockin' The Neighborhood, Rock & Roll Is Here To Stay, River Of Dreams, Teardrops, That Dream Song, Ready To Go, Run Around Sue, Blue Moon, Come Go With Me, Teenager In Love, I Wonder Why, Remember Chor Leoni : Goin' Home "Goin' Home is Chor Leoni's sixth CD - each one we rave about, and each one is better than the last! Internationally acclaimed conductor Diane Loomer's flawless direction and song selection keep the Vancouver, BC-based all-male choir going in the right direction. As Canada is composed of citizens from every corner of the world, the object of "Goin'" was to collect and present folk songs from many of these countries, in the hope that CL's audience would experience "the bittersweet tightness in the throat and tear in the eye that only comes when you are goin' home." 18 richly textured a cappella songs, beginning with 3 dramatic Ainu folk tunes, "Bear Festival," "Piraka" and "Whale Festival," and continuing with "Fenyang Ge" and "Minoi, Minoi," Anhui and Samoan folk songs, respectively. Following are the Lapp folk song, "Dalvi duoddar luohti," and one of the best covers of the Zulu tune "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" we've heard. German, English, Irish, Estonian, and Welsh folk songs delight the crowd (this is a live performance, although the audience is almost edited out). A couple of nice American songs, the Appalachian folk song "Bright Morning Star" and "Shenandoah," precede the title tune by Antonin Dvorak, the Scottish tune "Loch Lomond" and "Christmas Angel." Sweet harmonies and what we can only call "personality" pour forth from CL like water from a Canadian stream. Recommended! Songlist: Three Folk Songs, Bear Festival, Pirika, Pirika, Whale Festival, Fengyang Ge, Minoi, Minoi, Dalvi duoddar luohti, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Jing-ga-lye-ah, Gaudeamus igitur, Drink to my only with thine eyes, Dulaman, Kolm mul oli kaunist sona, Suo-Gan, Bright Morning Star, Shenandoah, Goin' Home, Loch Lomond, Christmas Angel Essentials : Bare Contemporary Canadian doo-woppers the Essentials have turned out two tight and tuneful CD's so far. This third, live recording is really a tribute to classic rock and pop, what with relentlessly infectious songs such as 'Stay,' 'Brown Eyed Girl' and 'Some Kind Of Wonderful.' Keeping a constant tempo are drums on many tracks. 'December, 1963' (a big hit for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons) works both sides of the audio spectrum, high and low; the four cut loose on 'Kiss Him Goodbye,' the lead vocal intensifying into a throaty growl, the bass punctuating the concentrated harmonies working feverishly above. 'Change In My Life' and 'Lion Sleeps Tonight' are 'essentially' a cappella. Songlist: Some Kind of Wonderfull, Heartache Tonight, Brown Eyed Girls, Change In My Life, Stay, The River of Dreams, We're Here For A Good Times, Your Song, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, December 1963 (Oh What a Night?!), Kiss Him Goodbye Fabulous Delacardos : Flat Top, Sock Hop, Doo Wop 'Hotter than a drive-in on a July night, smoother than a pocketful of jello... Here are The Fabulous Delacardos' That's what it says right here on the notes! We've never had a pocket full of jello, ourselves. In 1981 for a 20th class reunion of one of the members, the five men and one woman decided to recreate the music they loved as they grew up. They sing a New York style with a distinctly southern twist for they are from Tennessee. As an aside, the fine woman's voice you will hear belongs to Christy Little who ran for a Juvenile Court Judge in 1998.The 28 tunes are those that any one who went to high school in the late fifties or early sixties will have to remember fondly, or else turn in your Baby Boomer ID. Songlist: One Fine Day, Sixteen Candles, I Go To Pieces, Stagger Lee, Love Potion #9, All I Have To Do Is Dream, Silhouettes, Dedicated To The One I Love, Sh-Boom, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, So In Love, Come Go With Me, Be My Baby, Blue Moon, Cab Driver, Runaround Sue, Rockin' Robin, The Wanderer, Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight, In The Still Of The Night, Hearbreak Hotel, What's Your Name, Sincerely, Sixteen Tons, Da Doo Ron Ron, Under the Boardwalk, Sea Of Love, Rock & Roll Is Here To Stay Four Bettys : Betty or Not, Here We Come With a combined 80+ years singing, Four Bettys has paid their dues bigtime. In 2004 they placed 7th in the world at the Sweet Adelines International Competition in Indianapolis, and, like cream, rose steadily to the top: 3rd Place in 2005, 2nd Place in 2006 and not surprisingly, at the 2007 Calgary Convention they were named 2008 Queens of Harmony! "Betty or Not, Here We Come" is a "Best of" collection, so it's hard to pick favorites among these 13 cuts. The Motown standard "Get Ready," the traditional favorite "Danny Boy," the sweet, nostalgic "Pooh Corner," the a cappella chestnut "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," the pop hits "Here's That Rainy Day," "So Much in Love" and "Don't Rain on My Parade;" and Barbershop winners "I Told Them all about You/You Dear Medley" and "I Love You Truly;" and the Spiritual medley "Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone." Four Bettys is all about sweet harmonies, lovely leads, strong arrangements-in short, great entertainment! Songlist: Get Ready, The Pleasure is All Mine, Danny Boy, Return to Pooh Corner, Canticle of the Sun, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Here's That Rainy Day, So Much in Love, From the First Hello, I Told Them All About You/You Dear Medley, I Love You Truly, Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone, Don't Rain on My Parade Harbor Lights : Almost Acappella When we want to hear authentic Doo Wop, we think of Indiana. That's right, Indiana-4-man, 1-woman Harbor Lights is the real deal, with the genuine New York Doo Wop sound. On "Almost" they nail Doo Wop standards like "Come Go With Me," "Little Star," "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." They add a female lead to Ben E. King's "Stand By Me," and reinterpret pop hits like the Temptations' "Just My Imagination" and Peter & Gordon's "I Go To Pieces" becomes an a cappella classic. Ricky Nelson's "Poor Little Fool" is a sweet, nostalgic winner, as is Richie Valens' "Donna." Some accompaniment. "Almost" is the soul of East Coast Doo Wop from America's heartland! Songlist: Come Go With Me, Poor Little Fool, Gee Whiz, Little Star, Stand By Me, Pretty Little Angel Eyes, Just My Imagination, I Go To Pieces, Donna, The Lion Sleeps Tonight Heebee-jeebees : Hurry Up And Wait You are in for a treat. This recording contains straight ahead a cappella covers with no production embellishments, sung to you by the quartet who placed first in the 1997 Northern Harmony, A Canadian A Cappella Celebration. Now even though these songs are recorded just the way you could hear them performed on stage, the vocal kazoo and trumpet chorus on "Rockin' Robin does provide a distinctive, playful, embellishment. You'll find "Good Lovin'," "Blue Moon," "For The Longest Time," "Under The Boardwalk" (nice gargle effect there), "Duke Of Earl," "Sesame Street" and more, eighteen tunes in all. Go Canada! Get Heebee-Jeebees! Songlist: Good Lovin', Blue Moon, I'm in a Hurry, The Boring Song, Rockin' Robin, Spiderman, The Longest Time, Under the Boardwalk, Duke of Earl, Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight, You Kissed Me First, Sesame Street, Runsaround Sue, Rocks, California Dreamin', Rubber Duckie, Kiss Him Goodbye, The Lion Sleeps Tonight InsideOut : Experience Those familiar with Inside Out's previous CD, "Innocence," will notice that the group has evolved considerably since then. Though still paying sonic homage to their influences, the Blenders and Rockapella, this male sextet from Utah has a considerably more substantial sound than on the previous recording, and is writing original songs as well. Concise and punchy vocal percussion adds crunch, the performances are tighter, and the group is finding their own identity. When they launch into the groove of "What's On Your Mind/Pure Energy" they quash all objections. The verdict is in: "Experience" pays off! Songlist: Oh L'amour, Dreamer, Love, Me, What's On Your Mind, Cruel Kindness, Jackie Chan, Silence, Come Thou Fount, Stalking Song, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Cruel Kindness (Italian Reprise) Jay, Ray and Gee : A Cappella New Orleans New Orleans is home to some of the best music around, so finding this CD of A'capella Doo Wop New Orleans style was simply a treat. The songs are familiar favorites of traditional, motown, funk, calypso and childhood past that will keep you singing along with Jay-Ray and all of his friends. Fresh from the studio and without any technical manipulations to the recording, A'capella New Orleans is raw and unadulterated fun. When you pop this CD into the stereo, have no expectations; just enjoy the songs and the pleasure that went into singing them. Songlist: Day-O (Banana Boat Song), The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Father Abraham, Under the Boardwalk, I Feel Good, Chain Gang, Spinning Around, It's Alright, My Girl, Sitting In the Park, Yesterday, Stand By Me, It's Gonna Rain, Blessed Quietness, I've Been Changed Marcoux Corner : Live In this live CD Marcoux (Mahr-coo) Corner, their 3rd, prove that yes, in fact, more than one outstanding male Contemporary quartet hails from the home of the Blenders, Fargo, ND. 12 well-chosen pop cover, with funny banter segues and interactions with the audience - all adds up to big fun! Lennon/McCartney's "Ob, La, Di," "M.T.A.," "You're Sixteen," the Monkees' "I'm A Believer," the completely silly "Dolphin Boy," "One Fine Day," Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville," the manic, tongue-twisting "Johnny Saucepan," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," Van Morrison's "Moondance" and "The Sunshine Medley" are all wonderful. It's the next best thing to being in the audience for this very funny, highly entertaining show. Songlist: Ob La Di, M.T.A, You're Sixteen, Build Me Up, Buttercup, Aluminium, I'm A Believer, Garden State, Dolphin Boy, Bad Choreograhy, One Fine Day, Burro Burrow, Margaritaville, Relaxing Tapes, Johnny Saucepan, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Find Someone, Moondance, The Sunshine Medley MC6 : Doo Wop A Cappella Jackson, Paul, Kim, Joe, Gary, Dan and Rick have at least two things in common: they're all wonderful Doo-Wop singers, and they're earning a lot of fans in Arizona! "Burgers, Shakes Doo-Wop," contains 16 pretty straightforward covers of Doo-Wop standards like Bob Gaudio's "Sherry," Brian Wilson's "Little Deuce Coupe," Fred Parris' "In the Still of the Night," Hart & Rodgers' "Blue Moon," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight..." this album might have been called "Greatest Doo-Wop Hits of All Time!" These 7 guys (MC6 plus 1?) absolutely nail every song, and the additional voices add more richness and depth to the harmonies. Other favorites are "Up on the Roof" and "One Fine Day" by Carole King and Gerry Goffin; "Runaround Sue" by Ernie Maresca and Dion Dimucci, Al Yankovic's very silly "Since You've Been Gone," Del Shannon's "I Go to Pieces," Billy Joel's "The Longest Time" and the album closes with Harmony Sweeps audience favorite "Goodnight Sweetheart" by James Hudson and Calvin Carter. MC6 clearly loves Doo-Wop and entertaining us, and, like the burgers and shakes we remember, it's all big fun and delicious! Songlist: Sherry, 409 / Little Deuce Coupe, Come Go With Me, In The Still Of The Night, Blue Moon, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Surfer Girl, Up On The Roof, Runaround Sue, One Fine Day, Since You've Been Gone, Teenager In Love, So Much In Love, I Go To Pieces, The Longest Time, Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight Metropolis : Aural Hygiene The new generation of barbershop is here as Metropolis, winners of the 1998 Harmony Sweepstakes, deliver their first CD. The group has assembled a collection of familiar songs from different eras, such as "Our Day Will Come," "Love Me Tender" and "Honey's Lovin' Arms," all "Metropolized," the definition of which is as follows: close, rich harmonies, performed with such flawless intonation and dynamics, that the chords surge as if they will take flight and soar right out of the CD player! The arrangements have just enough individuality to keep the proceedings lively, and provide the challenge this group requires without becoming arcane. In other words, this CD will be prized by the traditional barbershop listener, and appreciated by those who typically prefer other styles. Included is "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch," in honor of Christmas season, with its wry spoken interlude, and "Yakko's World," which some may remember from their winning Sweepstakes performance. Songlist: Alexander's Ragtime Medley, I'm Afraid of the Beautiful Girls, Pure Imagination, Straighten Up & Fly Right, Our Day Will Come, You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, My Honey's Lovin Arms, Don't Blame Me, Floatin' Down to Cotton Town, Stay AwakeBrent Graham, Love Me Tender, I'm In Love Again/ Them There Eyes Medley, Yakko's World, Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing), The Lion Sleeps Tonight The Mighty Echoes : Doo Wop Til You Drop The Mighty Echoes have always been among our favorite Doo Woppers (not the kind you get with fries and a Coke, wise guy), so we were very pleased to see their latest release. These guys have been having way too much fun singing street corner 50s and 60s doo-wop on large stages for the last 1 years, and a great deal of seeing them live finds its way onto their CDs! "AC Doo Wop II" is their best yet, beautifully arranged, with harmonies sweet and tight enough to make the Wolfman howl. Songlist: Fools Fall in Love, Under the Boardwalk, Teenager in Love, Monster Mash, Gloria, Sh-Boom, What Time Is It?, Blue Moon, Teddy Bear, Remember Then, What's Your Name?, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, The Great Pretender, Do You Love Me? Minnesota Boychoir : Until We Meet Again Until We Meet Again, by the Minnesota Boychoir, contains folk songs from around the world, including many from South Africa. Also included are several hymns such as "And Did Those Feet in Ancient Time" and Beautiful Savoir. This highly regarded group is led by Mark Johnson. Songlist: Siyahamba, Thuma Mina, Niska Banja, Bashana Haba-A, from Three Hungarian Folk Songs:, The Handsome Butcher, The Old Woman, Freedom is Coming, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Non Nobis, Domine, Da Pacem, Domine, And Did Those Feet in Ancient Time, Sound the Trumpet, Al HaNissim, Revelations, Beautiful Savior, Haleluya!Pelo Tsa Rona, I Hear America Singing, Who Can Sail, O Sifuni Mungu, Blessing Nashville Singers : The Journey Begins Todd Wilson earned six International Chorus Championships with The Vocal Majority, and one International Quartet Gold Medal singing with Acoustix. Since then he has conducted six different choral ensembles across the country, leading the 90-voice Houston Tidelanders to two BHS top ten finishes. He is one of the founders of Nashville Singers, and is Director of Music (in addition to wearing several other hats) for the 14-man group. "The Journey Begins" is a six-song debut recording for the NS, featuring The Turtles' "Happy Together," the traditional folk tune "Shenandoah," the Dean Martin trademark hit "That's Amore" (sung by the Amore 4, a Barbershop Quartet within the Singers) Token's Doo-Wop standard "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and "The Impossible Dream" from "Man of La Mancha." Masterful Mr. Wilson knows what he's doing, and "The Journey Begins" sounds great. We'll be expecting big things from the talented Nashville Singers! Songlist: Happy Together, Shenandoah, That's Amore, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Over The Rainbow, The Impossible Dream The Nylons : The Nylons This is the one that began the most enduring career of any modern vocal group. The self titled album went gold in Canada in two months with huge radio hits of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," and "Up On The Roof" which are among their signature tunes to this day. "Duke Of Earl" was recorded live in Vancouver before a wildly cheering audience, the only live track. For the "purist" a cappella fan, "A Million Ways," "Somethin' Bout Cha," "Duke Of Earl," "Rock & Roll Lullaby" and "Up On The Roof" are accompanied by only finger snaps or hand claps. Songlist: The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Love Potion #9/ Spooky, A Million Ways, Somethin' Bout Cha, Duke Of Earl, Rock & Roll Lullaby, Find The One I Love, Some People, Up On The Roof, Me And The Boys The Nylons : Seamless The oft-imitated "Lion Sleeps Tonight" leads off this 1984 recording. Songlist: The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Take Me To Your Heart, This Boy, Oo Wee, Oh Me, Oh My, Combat Zone, Up On The Roof, Perpetual Emotion, Stepping Stone, Remember (Walking In The Sand), The Stars Are Ours The Nylons : Best of In 1993 Attic Records and Windham Hill Records put out their first collection, entitled Best Of..., which, like the later compilation Perfect Fit is a fine survey of the four Nylons whom most consider the originals, Marc Connors, Paul Cooper, Arnold Robinson and Claude Morrison. Many of the signature tunes are found on both releases but uniquely on Best Of... are "That Kind Of Man," "Up The Ladder To The Roof," "Please," "Stepping Stone," "Bop Till You Drop," "Combat Zone," "Wildfire" and "The Stars Are Ours." Songlist: That Kind of Man, Kiss Him Goodbye, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Up the Ladder to the Roof, Please, Happy Together, Drift Away, Stepping Stone, Bop Till You Drop, Chain Gang, Up On The Roof, Prince of Darkness, Poison Ivy, Combat Zone, Wildfire, The Stars Are Ours The Nylons : Perfect Fit Attic Records has been working with Windham Hill Records to rerelease the Nylons' "Attic years". What we love about them is that they don't just cover a song, they "vocally sculpture" it, giving it a new dimension from the original. "Illustrious" is a "best of" collection from The Nylons' many CDs and huge number of live performances, and it's a treat! 13 songs: the live cuts "Duke of Earl" and "Chain Gang," "Love Potion #9/Spooky," the quintessential version of"The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "Up On The Roof," "Silhouettes," "Town Without Pity," "Remember," "Kiss Him Goodbye"...the hits just keep on coming. The Nylons simply sing and perform rings around most Doo-Wop groups, and never was this fact so evident as it is on "Illustrious." Great stuff! Songlist: Duke Of Earl, Love Potion #9 / Spooky, Rock and Roll Lullaby, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Silhouettes, Town Without Pity, Up The Ladder To The Roof, Remember, Happy Together, Chain Gang, Kiss Him Goodbye, Drift Away Showvinistics : My Heart Forevermore Records proudly announces the second release from the Showvinistics. It featured some of the finest rock/popular/doo-wop groups in the world. Included in this sound track are Ladysmith Black Mambazo, The Mint Juleps, The Persuasions, Rockapella, Take Six and True Image. In historical terms this event was a watershed event bringing the renaissance of a cappella of to the public consciousness. It still is a marvelous cd and a must for any enthusiast of the genre. Other favorites are New York's The Fault Line's "Some Kind of Wonderful;" the Pacific NW's V-Chords' "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing", Boston's Men in Black's "Run Around" and Chicago's Nightwatch's very funny "Defying Gravity." And let us not forget host group 2006 Champions Hi-Fidelity (hey, that's 2 in a row for L.A.!), whose "Enterprise/Sulu Medley" reminds us how brilliant and funny they can be. Songlist: O Fortuna, Bring Me Little Water, Silvie, Steal My Kisses, Rock Around The Clock, Sugarcane Jubilee, Don't Worry 'Bout A Thing, Wade in the Water, Szerelem, Home, Some Kind of Wonderful, Run Around, Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident), Defying Gravity, Stand in that River, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Enterprise / Sulu Medley, Kappee, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life Various Artists : Starlight Serenade Top 20 Lovers of authentic, original remastered recordings of a cappella Doo-Wop will find a rich treasure in "Top 20." Of course we have heard most of these cuts before, but these excellent groups are all new to our ears. The Arrogants' versions of "Sh-Boom," "Get A Job," Who's That Knockin', and "Church Bells May Ring" are top-drawer, as are Norman Fox & the Rob Roys' "Dance Girl Dance" and "Tell Me Why." The Revelations weigh in with "Spanish Harlem," BQE sings "What Time Is It," "Sherry" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight;" John Kuse & the Excellents, Image, Yesterday's Today, Five Kings, Bravado, Dino and the Heartspinners, Lar-Kings, Tokens-the list, and the hits, go on and on. "6" refers to the fact that this is their 6th CD, and probably also to the 6 years that these very talented men have been singing and performing together. We think this will be a breakthrough CD for them, for "6" is a joy from start to finish! Comparisons with Rockapella, the House Jacks and the Beach Boys come to mind as VM hands us one powerful cover after another, held together by John's rock-solid vocal percussion. Much of the excellent arranging is by group members, and the guys take turns singing lead, showing off their vocal talents. 14 well-chosen songs here: a fun "Brown Eyed Girl," "A Million Ways," U2's "Pride" (In the Name of Love), "It's so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday," "My Maria," "The Shadow of Your Smile," great vocal "horns" on "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "Sam, You Made the Pants Too Long," James Taylor's "That Lonesome Road" and "Sun on the Moon," "In The Still of the Night," "Loch Lomond," "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Celebration." But we especially liked the comedic material like "Wacky Intro," "Cow Patti," "The Preacher," "Mississippi Squirrel Revival," "Goodbye, World, Goodbye," and two live out-takes of "Cow Patti" and "Wacky Intro" which are included at the end of the CD. The smooth, confident harmonies--and especially the strong comic sense that make this a standout CD are the same things that are helping this young quartet begin carving a good-sized niche in the Barbershop World, one delighted audience at a time. Songlist: Wacky Intro, You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me, Good Old A Cappella, Come Take Your Place in My Heart, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Happy Go Lucky Lane, Cow Patti, The Preacher, Mississippi Squirrel Revival, Naturally, We're Gonna Have Smooth Sailin', Trickle Trickle, Goodbye World, Goodbye The Alley Cats : Nine Lives When we first saw the Alley Cats it was giving a "showcase concert" on a small school stage at the A Cappella Summit, singing 4 or 5 songs. What was clear was that these four young guys simply performed sweeter, better-arranged, funnier, more together Doo-Wop than anyone we had ever heard. "9 Lives" (9 "live" performances, get it?) proves that they are even more so now. Their song selection includes our very favorites: "Blue Moon," "Duke of Earl," "Come Go With Me," "Little Darlin'," "La Bamba," "Little Bitty Pretty One," "The Book of Love," "Barbara Ann," plus 3 bonus tracks, including "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" and "Rock N Roll is Here to Stay." The DVD includes cool footage from their appearances on Arsenio Hall and other shows, and begins with live songs from an outdoor California festival, then follows the guys on their ride to Vegas for very hot performances and outtakes there. Alley Cat fans, you of course will buy this DVD because you know that the Cats are "America's Premier Doo-Wop Group." Those unfamiliar with the group, you of course will want to see how good you have to be to bill yourself as "America's Premier Doo-Wop Group," and you won't be disappointed. Songlist: A Cappella, Come Go With Me, The Duke Of Earl, Little Bitty Pretty One, Book Of Love, Little Darlin, La Bamba / Twist And Shout, Barbara Ann, Blue Moon, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Rock 'N Roll Is Here To Stay The Nylons : Live In Tokyo and more..
