"The First Nowell" is of Cornish origin. Its current form was first published in Carols Ancient and Modern (1823) and Gilbert and Sandys Carols (1833), both of which were edited by William Sandys and arranged, edited and with extra lyrics written by Davies Gilbert for Hymns and Carols of God. Nowell is an Early Modern English synonym of "Christmas" from French Noël "the Christmas season", ultimately from Latin natalis [dies] "[day] of birth".[3] The word was regularly used in the burden of carols in the middle ages towards the early modern period; Sir Christèmas (Ritson Manuscript)[4], "Nowell sing we now all and some" (Trinity Carol Roll)[5] and "Nowel - out of youre slepe arise and wake" (Selden Carol Book) being 15th century examples.

Some cuts have percussion tracks, which arenUt employed as a live trap kit would be, but add groove and fullness. 'Family Christmas' includes twenty-one holiday carols and hymns, some of which were included previously on their two former Christmas CDUs (also in stock), and four from their childrenUs recording. Some of the older tracks have been refreshed and re-mixed with new vocals for this release, and 'Mary Did You Know,' 'O Holy Night' 'Away In A Manger' and 'Little Drummer Boy' are brand new. Songlist: Mary, Did You Know?, Away In a Manger, A Tiny Child, The First Noel, Noel, Silent Night, Joy to the World, There Were Angels, O Come, O Come Emanuel, Christmas Medley, No Other Day, Here We Come A Carolling Medley, That's What I Love About Christmas, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Angels We Have Heard On High, Jesus Carol, Merry Christmas, What Child Is This?, Is Born a Savior, O Holy Night, Little Drummer Boy Acappella Company : A Cappella Carols The jubilant voices of the Acappella Company are amazingly prolific, having recorded dozens of albums through the years. Their inspirational themes are blended in a contemporary-meets-gospel style. 'Carols' was released in 1993, and features the group performing all of the best-loved holiday gems: 'O Holy Night, The First Noel,' 'Joy To The World' and 'Silent Night,' plus six more. While the production and arrangements are certainly not plain, by comparison to their original compositions, they are restrained. 'Silent Night' retains the simplicity of this ubiquitous melody, but improvises upon it, adding warmth and depth with a resonant bass and perfectly-timed harmonic backing. You can't go wrong with this one! Songlist: Angels We Have Heard On High, O Holy Night, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, Away In A Manger, The First Noel, O Come All Ye Faithful, What Child Is This?, Joy To The World, Little Town of Bethlehem, Silent Night Accidentals : An Accidental Christmas The Accidentals won the Harmony Sweepstakes in 1995 with their signature tune, "You Win." The eight piece group is known for their exemplary musicianship and unexpected arrangements. Though the advance copy we received for review did not include all of the songs on the CD-there will be twenty in all-what we heard lived up to our high expectations, including the hearty "Wassail Song," a pristine "I Wander As I Wander" and the CARA award-winning "Rudiana," a hilarious tour-de-force that sends up a variety of musical genres from classical to tango! Songlist: Deck The Hall, O come, All Ye Faithful, Angels We Have Heard On High, O Tannenbaum, Ding Dong! Merrily On High, Patapan, The Christmas Song, Jingle Bells, Rudiana, Joy The The World, In Dulci Jubilo, Away In A Manger, The First Noel, God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, The Wassail Song, Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella, I Wonder As I Wander, O Little Town Of Bethlehem, The Hallelujah Chorus, Silent Night Acoustix : Cool Yule Acoustix are one of the most consistently impressive barbershop groups performing today. "Cool Yule," their first holiday-themed recording, will add to their legend. Greg Volk arranged several songs, including "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch," (sung by bass Joel Rutherford, who also contributed two arrangements). Two Beach Boys scores, "Auld Lang Syne" and "Little Saint Nick," and a Mervyn Warren (of Take 6) chart, "The First Noel," show the quartet's burgeoning versatility, and it sounds great. For those listeners who prefer Acoustix to stay close to their barbershop origins, the locked-in chords of "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" and "Mary Had A Baby" will be a treat. About half accompanied in swinging big band style. Songlist: Cool Yule, Silver Bells, You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch, The Christmas Song, Kay Thompson's Jingle Bells, Happy Holidays / Holiday Season Medley, The First Noel, Pine Cones and Holly Berries Medley, Little Saint Nick, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Mary Had a Baby, Auld Lang Syne Acoustix : All The Best Well here's a real treat! Without doubt Acoustix are one of the best barbershop quartets there ever has been and include some of the genre's most talented singers. This is a best of CD that also includes four all new studio recordings namely "Moon River", "You Are So Beautiful", "O Canada" and "The Impossible Dream." One expects to be blown away by these singers and sure enough these new songs deliver the goods. Added bonus is that Aucoustix's previous bass (who now sings with Max Q) Jeff Oxley joins Joel T Rutherford who together take you to bass heaven. If you only own one barbershop CD (and how sad would that be) this would be the one to have! Superb. Songlist: Tonight, That's An Irish Lullaby, I'm Afraid the Masquerade is Over, Irish Blessing, The Stars & Stripes Forever, Blackbird Medley, The Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America, This Is The Moment, Day By Day, Straighten Up and Fly Right, Unforgettable, Simon & Garfunkel Montage, Cool Yule, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, The First Noel, O Worship the King, You'll Never Walk Alone, Fear Not My Child, Moon River, You Are So Beautiful, O Canada, The Impossible Dream All-American Boys Chorus : The Best Gift Of All The joy and excitement of the holidays come to life as the boys tell the story of Christmas. Beginning with the season's earliest hearkenings of candy canes, Santa Claus, and toys, the narrative continues with the warmth and glow of home and hearth, and concludes with the spellbinding tale of the magic night itself. Songlist: It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, Silver Bells, Here Comes Santa Claus/ Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Jingle Bells, The Best Gift Of All, Angels We Have Heard On High, O Little Town Of Bethlehem, What Child Is This?, The First Noel, Ave Maria, A Medley Of Carols/ Joy To The World/ Hark! Herald Angels Sing/ O Come, All Ye Faithful The Blenders : Nog Hurry, quick! Look at what the Santa's little helpers have been up to this year! It's hard to believe that these four young men from Minnesota have transfused these familiar holiday chestnuts with such inspiration and wonder, but indeed they have. "Let It Snow" takes as it's initial premise a Polynesian tiki lounge rhythm - already different - and then takes the cheery melody headlong into a ninth chord resolution! This CD is trimmed with so many gorgeous decorations that it improves the more one hears it, revealing subtleties that delight upon discovery. The creativity just saturates every song, whether as a distinctive rhythmic variation or unexpected countermelody, but always integrated into the whole (by the way, the group produced and arranged "Nog" themselves). In terms of intonation and blend, the Blenders (coinciding with their choice of name), are the best in the business: listen to "Do You Hear What I Hear" as just one excellent example. It's perfectly calibrated, the senses reveling in the purity of sound. Contemporary a cappella at its best. Songlist: The Christmas Song, Do You Hear What I Hear, Let It Snow, The First Noel, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, The Little Drummer Boy, Angels We Have Heard On High, Christmas Time Is Here, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Silent Night The Blenders : Holiday Best This 2004 releases is a compilation of their other two Christmas recording ("Nog" and "When It Snows") plus a new bonus track"I'll Be Home For Christmas" Songlist: Carol of the Bells, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas, Do You Hear What I Hear, When It Snows, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, The Christmas Song, The First Noel, Pure Imagination / White Christmas, Walkin' in a WInter Wonderland, Angels We Have Heard On High, One Small Child/We Three Kings, O Come All Ye Faithful, Tiny Little Christmas, Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, Silent Night, I'll Be Home For Christmas Bulgarian Voices : Chants de Noel The Choir of Sofia, conducted by Ludmila Dimova, interprets the songs of Christmas in the tradition of the Bulgarian polyphonies. Between classical music and folk-world music of the eastern countries; like the successful Mysteries of the Bulgarian Voice with its antique, pre-Christian and Hellenistic roots, the Choir interprets with grace the songs of Western heritage: Silent Night, Tino Rossi's Petit Papa Noel, Jingle Bells, Schubert's Ave Maria and more. A new discovery of these Christmas songs' heritage for every age. Songlist: Silent Night, Hey Maiden, A Virgin Is Bearing Today, Get Up, Host, Jingle Bells, Foom, Foom, Le Petit Papa Noel, It Will Snow, Ostinato, Dignity, Glorify, Ave Maria, In Suffers is Bearing Mother Mary, Many Years, The First Noel, Deck The Halls, We Wish You A Merry Christmas Chapter 6 : Christmastime Chicago's excellent Contemporary Christian sextet Chapter 6, who we have enjoyed on the stage at the Harmony Sweeps Finals, have a poised, strong, jazz-flavored CD in "Christmas time." 12 songs, notably the light, scatty "Sleigh Ride," a Chanticleer-like arrangement of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," a surprising scatty Manhattan Transferish arrangement of "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," a rap-flavored "This Christmas," a blue-note "Away in a Manger," a jazzy, driving "Carol of the Bells," surprising, hip vocal percussion arrangements of "O Little Town of Bethlehem," "Rise Up Shepherd and Follow," a moody "Gabriel's Message," a blue-note "The First Noel" and a stunningly jazzy "White Christmas." An unexpected, but impressive Christmas album for very talented Chapter 6. Songlist: Sleigh Ride, Christmas Time is Here, O Come O Come Emmanuel, Hark! Campus performances of pop covers led to their first album, 2001's "Once." They won the NW Regional Harmony Sweeps and were very impressive at the 2001 Finals. After performing a featured number in the Opening opening of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and releasing their second album, "Think Twice," they won the 2002 Rocky Mountain Sweeps Regional. "Three Kings" is a rich, innovative Christmas CD that features 11 songs that features stunning arrangements, many of them by group member Patrick Rose. There are 3 very nice original tunes, "This Year," "Room in the Inn" and the sweet "Lullaby." Strong vocal percussion on the spirited "Three Kings," "Drummer Boy," and "Go Tell It." Smooth, ringing harmonies on "The First Noel" and "What Child Is This?" A bluesy, jazzy "The Christmas Song" and "Silent Night" are last. One of the best of the year! Highly recommended. The lovely Christmas favorite, The First Noel, is given a straightforward arrangement by New York Voices leader, Darmon Meader. There is a judicious mixture of unison writing and part-writing based on standard settings, with a more elaborate and harmonically rich treatment on the last verse.
Arranger: Darmon Meader
A new arrangement for two-part treble choir, this setting employs orchestral accompaniment, and will provide a very different performing experience for young treble voices. Available separately: SATB, SA, Chamber Orchestra (print). Duration: 2:30.
Arranger: Donna Gartman Schultz
Singing Noel over and over and layer upon layer the stage is set for joy. Setting this familiar carol in 4/4 rather than the customary 3/4 we are immediately aware that this arrangement is unique. Countermelodies and polyphony stacked one line on the next create a thrilling anthem. Scored for SATB & cello, the cello is included in the back of the choral score.
Arranger: David Chase
Phil Kern gives us another choral classic with his new arrangement of The First Noel. It is simply stunning with its use of contemporary chord structure, unison singing that develops back and forth with full choral production, an a cappella section, dynamic contrast and elegant piano accompaniment. As you program the familiar for your holiday concert, you'll want to put this one at the top of your list. Available: SATB.
Arranger: Philip Kern

As performed by Men of Note on The Sing Off Christmas album Harmonies for the Holidays, this soothing tapestry of diatonic arpeggiations and melodic lines gives the song a smooth contemporary a cappella feel that will sit comfortably alongside more traditional carols in your holiday program.
Arranger: Deke Sharon
Vibrant rhythms infuse this uptempo a cappella setting with energy in a fantastic concert showcase that is an ideal selection for pop, jazz and concert groups. Perform with voices only or add vocal bass and percussion for even more impact.
