Various Arrangers : The Great American Songbook - The Singers Crooners, wailers, shouters, balladeers - some of our greatest pop vocalists have poured their hearts and souls into the musical gems of the Great American Songbook. They sang in nightclubs and concert halls, on television and in films, and left us a legacy of recordings still in play today. Their interpretations entertained us, moved us to tears, and wove lyrics and music into the fabric of our lives, making us see ourselves in these quintessentially American songs. This folio features 100 of these classics by Louis Armstrong (Hello Dolly - What a Wonderful World), Tony Bennett (I Left My Heart in San Francisco), Rosemary Clooney (Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep), Nat King Cole (Route 66), Bing Crosby (True Love), Doris Day (Bewitched), Ella Fitzgerald (How High the Moon), Judy Garland (Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody), Dean Martin (Everybody Loves Somebody), Frank Sinatra (Young at Heart), Barbra Streisand (People), Mel Tormé (Heart and Soul), and many, many more. Songlist: You Belong To Me, True Love, Smile, If, Manhattan, All Of Me, I Love Being Here With You, All The Way, Day By Day, Heart and Soul, I Wanna Be Loved, And I Love You So, Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home, Autumn Leaves, Baby, It's Cold Outside, Cry Me A River, Gypsy In My Soul, That's Entertainment, Sunrise, Sunset, Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, Bewitched, Blame It On My Youth, People, Born Free, Cabaret, Call Me Irresponsible, Dear Ruby, I Should Care, There Will Never Be Another You, Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep, and more Anita Kerr SIngers : Sounds This accompanied pop classic of "Sounds" (dig the new sounds, baby) from Anita and her often-changing group of singers from the late 60s features a more saccharine, innocent take on that turbulent era. For the first time in her career, Anita selects songs that had not been hits, the only two immediately hummable songs being "Swinging on a Star" and "The Beat Goes On," a hit for Sonny & Cher in 1966. 12 songs that are generally new to our ears, polished with sweet vocals and strings: "Happiness," "Wine in the Wind," "Say You Do," "Long Live Our Love," "I Would Love You," "The Two of Us," "I've Got Love Going for Me" and "They Always Ask Me"...these are romantic songs to slow dance and fall in love to, that would fit right in on Lawrence Welk's or Andy Williams' show, the kind of songs sung by Anita and her Singers to appreciative audiences from 4 generations. Songlist: Happiness, Wine in the Wind, Today is, Say You Do, I'm Falling in Love Again, Long Live Our Love, I Would Love You, The Beat Goes On, The Two of Us, I've Got Love Going for Me, They Always Ask Me, Swinging on a Star Heart Of Texas Chorus : The Beginning "The Beginning" is the Heart of Texas Chorus' first recording after their founding in 1994 by 20 men who wanted to form a quality barbershop chorus in the "Central Texas Corridor" from Georgetown to San Antonio. Their members ranged in age from 14 to 64, and they were lucky to have a director of the caliber of seasoned barbershop veteran Eddie Martinez, formerly of the Houston Tidelanders. The 31-strong group (at that time) started winning Barbershop Harmony regional competitions right away, and competing in the Ohio "Buckeye International" Contest. 14 songs, with guest performers Soundtrax, the top-ten Sweet Adelines quartet, who join the Chorus on "And So to Sleep Again," "Oh, You Beautiful Doll," "In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning" and "Orange Colored Sky." Other Barbershop standards show off the HOTC's smooth, dynamic sound: "Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella," "Swinging on a Star," "Are You Lonesome Tonight," "In That Great Getting' Up Mornin'," "Smile," "Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive" and "I'm Gonna Live Till I Die." Good early stuff from a powerful, dynamic chorus from Texas! Songlist: Let A Smile Be Your Umbrella, Swinging On A Star, Are You Lonesome tonight, Lulu's Back In Town, Softly As I Leave You, In That Great Gettin' Up Mornin', Smile, Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive, And So To Sleep Again, Oh, You Beautiful Doll, In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning, Orange Colored Sky, The Lords Prayer, I'm Gonna Live Till I Die Storm Front : Storm Warning Much has changed for Denver-based Storm Front since they recorded their debut CD four years ago. They have performed in half the states in the USA, coached at numerous music schools around the country, and have twice been recognized as one of the top 10 Barbershop quartets in the world by the Barbershop Harmony Society, winning a 3rd place Bronze in 2007 and sixth place in 2008. "Storm Warning" has 14 winners that highlight the group's great comedic sense, ability to entertain and wonderful harmonies. Rodgers & Hart's "Have You Met Miss Jones?," Lerner and Loewe's "On The Street Where You Live," "Swinging on a Star," the silly group standard "Filbert the Frog," "Bare Necessities," Fats Waller's "There's Gonna Be the Devil to Pay," "The 12 Days of Christmas," "Bugler's Holiday" and "There's Something About That Name" are favorites. We especially love Barbershop groups that are funny, and Storm Front is one of the best! Songlist: Have You Met Miss Jones?, Be My Life's Companion, When She Loved Me, On the Street Where You Live, Swinging on a Star, Filbert the Frog, The Bare Necessities, Story of the Rose, Scottish Spring, There's Gonna Be the Devil to Pay, Dreams of You, The Twelve Days Of Christmas, Bugler's Holiday, There's Something About that Name |
