"Superstition" reached number one in the U.S., and number one on the soul singles chart. The song was Wonder's first number-one single since the live version of "Fingertips Pt. 2" topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963. Overseas, it peaked at number eleven in the UK during February 1973. In November 2004, Rolling Stone ranked the song at No. 74 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song's lyrics are chiefly concerned with superstitions, mentioning several popular superstitious fables throughout the song, and deal with the negative effects superstitious beliefs can bring.

Since then they have wowing audiences with their dynamic live shows (over 250 a year!) and with excellent recordings ("Granite Ave." is their 4th). 12 cuts, many of them originals written and arranged by the group. Aaron Loveland, Dave Guisti, Jon Ryan, Dan Syzmczak and Tim Foust share credit for the words and music on "Come Back to Me," "Get It Together," "Crawlin' Out From Under," "Trust Me," "Your Love," "Addicted" "What More Do You Need," "Anyway," "Set The Mood," "Heavy On My Mind" and "Let You Lead." The only cover, arranged by the guys is Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," one of the best covers of this classic that we've heard. Strong vocal percussion throughout supplied by Jon. "Granite" shows Ball to be at the top of their game and among the elite Contemporary groups in the world. They are stars as a cappella performers, composers and recording artists, and the world is quickly discovering that! Songlist: Come Back To Me, Get It Together, Crawlin Out From Under, Trust Me, Your Love, Addicted, What More Do You Need, Anyway, Set The Mood, Superstition, Heavy On My Mind, Let You Lead Ball In The House : One Night Only All male, Boston-based Contemporary a cappella quintet Ball in the House used their memorable appearance at the 1998 Harmony Sweeps Finals as a springboard to an amazing career of dynamic live shows (over 250 live performances a year) and excellent recordings ("One Night Only" will be their fifth hot-selling album in the Singers.com catalog). BITH's sound features solid, driving beatbox, hot arrangements, and sweet leads & harmonies. 18 covers, some of our favorites are a rap-flavored take on Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," CSN&Y's "Love the One You're With," the Disco hits "Ladies Night" and "Oh What A Night;" the mainstream radio hits "Nothin' On You" and "Just the Way You Are;" the Motown standards "Ain't No Sunshine," and "That's the Way I Like It," the live cut "Waiting," Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" and "I Want You Back;" and the Seals & Crofts' 70s anthem "Summer Breeze." It warms our hearts to watch a top-drawer group from the Sweeps Finals grow into one of the top a cappella touring groups performing today. "One Night Only" is a party in a CD sleeve and we're invited! Songlist: I Don't Wanna Be, Superstition, Love The One You're With, Ladies Night, Think About It, Nothin' On You, Waiting, Beat Box Solo, Just The Way You Are, Let You Lead, Ain't No Sunshine, That's The Way (I Like It), Oh What A Night, I Want You Back, Billie Jean, Summer Breeze, Set The Mood, Falling Slowly, Signed, Sealed and Delivered Breath of Soul : Breath of Soul David, Jesse, Tony and Jake of "Nashville's Premier Vocal Band" Breath of Soul bring us their impressive, soulful, self-titled debut CD, recorded in 2010. Singing together for just a few years, these four friends have the talent, poise, harmonies, leads and arrangements of a group with years more experience. All 13 songs were arranged by BOS baritone Jesse Upah, who wrote the short, sweet "It's Just An Intro," "Breath of Soul" and "To Be Continued" mixes a lot of fresh sounds like the faux kazoo on Lennon/McCartney's "Come Together" and the fiery, powerful vocal percussion on "Lost!," the digital wah-wah effects and rap talk on "Breath of Soul," gentle finger-snapping on the gentle "Nora," chirpy Doo-Woppy notes on R. Spektor's "On The Radio," butter-creamy harmonies on "The Doxology," deep-bass percussion on the inspirational "Freedom Song," crazed popcorn and funhouse rhythms on Neal Diamond's "Headed for the Future," Stephen Foster's still-relevant "Hard Times," S. Chapman's driving "Lord of the Dance," and a sweet, creepy take on Stevie Wonder's hit "Superstition." Every cut here is a finely crafted winner, as BOS shows off its impressive collection of non-instrumental sounds, yummy leads and harmonies. To be this good this early in their careers promises great things for Breath of Soul! Songlist: It's Just An Intro, Lost!, Breath of Soul, Nora, Come Together, On The Radio, The Doxology, Freedom Song, Headed For The Furure, Hard Times, Lord of the Dance, Superstition, The Be Continued Just 4 Kicks : All In Good Time The four players in Just 4 Kicks are only four of the most respected (and frequently employed) arrangers and educators in the music industry. Their talent is only surpassed by their prodigious accomplishments, the results of which are ours to appreciate. Obviously influenced by the brilliant vocal jazz groups of the '50's and '60's, most notably the Four Freshmen and Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, "All In Good Time" is adventurous and exuberant. Billy Strayhorn's comically ironic "Everything But You" is one of the great swing tunes in the lexicon, and Just 4 Kicks stands in for an entire jazz combo, tossing off brass solos and a drum breakdown. The arrangement of "Alice In Wonderland" frequently voices the harmony, including the enticing ninth chords, by implying the root, rather than stating it overtly. "I'm Walkin'," popularized by "Fats" Domino and arranged here by Kirby Shaw, retains the boogie-woogie party mood of the original and kicks it up a notch - now that's impressive. Many of the songs feature furious scatting, all done live. Don Shelton of the Hi-Lo's guests on "Green Dolphin Street," and the Bobs' Joe Finetti stops by to supply vocal percussion on Stevie Wonder's "Superstition." Songlist: I'm Walkin', Everything But You, Alice In Wonderland, Black Orpheus, On Green Dolphin Street, Her Bright Smile, Poppity-Pop, All Blues, Superstition, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye, Blizzard Of Lies, Take the 'A' Train, A Quiet Place Princeton Tigertones : Old No. 27 The 12 young men who form the '01-'02 version of the Princeton Tigertones are members of more than a great vocal group. It is said that The Tigertones, a tradition at Princeton going back 56 years (a great pic of the '46-'47 version is in the liner notes), have broader appeal than any other boy-band in the world. The Tones have wowed elderly audiences in Palm Beach, teenage schoolgirls in Switzerland, and have performed on the stages of Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. This is their 27th biennial album, hence "Old No. 27." There are 18 songs, which reflect their rich heritage. Some of our favorites: Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," Sam the Sham & The Pharoahs' "Little Red Riding Hood," "The Orange Moon," the wonderful reggae tune "Kiss Da Girl," "Runaround Sue," CSNY's "Our House," "Steppin' to the Bad Side," Simon & Garfunkel's "Scarborough Fair," "Shower the People," and "When Sunny Gets Blue," recorded live. The Tones are having total fun recording "Old No. 27," performing live, or just doing great harmony with their buds, and that's what it's all about! Songlist: Superstition, Little Red Riding Hood, The Orange Moon, Kiss Da Girl, Shall We Gather By the River, Ring Ring the Banjo, That Cat is High, Runaround Sue, Romeo and Juliet, Brown Eyed Girl, Our House, Smile, Steppin' to the Bad Side, Scarborough Fair, The Long and Winding Road, Sing Me to Heaven, Shower the People, When Sunny Gets Blue Vocal Point : Nonstop Formed by two BYU students in 1991 in the traditional college glee club format, 9-man Vocal Point discovered a huge interest in their high-energy, wonderfully-arranged covers. "Nonstop" features recordings by 3 different configurations of the group, 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. Photos of those groups are in the full-color liner notes, where founders Bob Ahlander and Dave Boyce also describe watching their creation win the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella at the Lincoln Center in NYC in April of 2006, an inspiring and moving story. The 16 high-energy cuts begin with a rousing a cappella rendition of the THX/20th Century Fox fanfare, "Spider-Man Theme," Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing," a very fine "Sunshine Medley" ("Walkin' on Sunshine," "Ain't No Sunshine" and "Let the Sunshine In"), Robert Allen and Al Stillman's 50s harmonic gem "No Not Much," Marc Broussard's Southern-fried foot-stomper "Home," Garth Brooks' beautiful, touching "When You Come Back to Me Again," Michael Jackson's "Thriller," and the final cut, traditional hymn "Nearer My God to Thee." Solid vocal percussion, fine arranging, strong harmonies, powerful leads (especially Michael Buble on "Home")--it all adds up to great entertainment from one of our favorite collegiate ensembles! Songlist: THX/20th Century Fox Fanfare, Spider-Man Theme, Take On Me, Superstition, Black Balloon, Sing, Sing, Sing, Sunshine Medley, No Not Much, Home, When You Come Back to Me Again, Praise The Man, Super Mario, Thriller, Home, Bigger Than My Body, Nearer My God To Thee Sweet Adelines : Top Choruses 2011 It was another great year of top notch harmony singing at the International Competition held this year in Houston. The Melodeers took the gold, Ronninge Chorus (from Sweden) was second and Lions Gate Chorus (from Canada) won bronze. Songlist: Once Upon a Time, Bg Bad Bill, At Last, Toot, Toot, Tootsie, When You Wish Upon A Star, Powder Yourself With Sunshine, Superstition, The Wonder Tag, Boy From New York City, Deed I Do, Time After Time, Dancing Queen, Oh, How I Miss You Tonight, Cry Baby Intro;, Oh, You Beautiful Doll, Nothing Can Stop Us Now, Gotta Know How To Dance, If I Had My Way, I Wanna Be A Star, A Bundle Of Old Love Letters, Holding Out For A Hero, A Piece of Sky, Great Day, If We Can't BeThe Same Old Sweethearts, I Love Jazz, Testify To Love, Hard-Hearted Hannah, The Way You Look Tonight, When The Red, Red Robin Goes Bob Bobbin' Along, When I Fall In Love, and more |
