"There Will Never Be Another You " is a sensitive treatment of the jazz standard that opens as a ballad before moving to a buoyant swing feel. Great tune, great arrangement. SATB a cappella with soprano solo. "Come Sunday" - Careful voice leading makes the contemporary harmonic changes and chord voicings in this chart quite accessible in this SSATBB a cappella arrangement. It features a strong 5 and 6 part into featuring the first chorus with a pyramid background behind a soprano melody moving into spread harmonies. The second chorus is open for a improvised solo with a tag over a 3-part harmonized background with walking bass. The chart ends with a 6-way harmonized "quasi-shout" chorus moving back into the origianl melody. Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke" never had it so good in this marvelous Edenroth arrangement.

Young contemporary Christian quintet from Washington state, who obviously know their Motown soul. As such, they don't sound much like fellow Christian groups like the AVB or Rescue; Heaven's Playground place less emphasis on state-of-the-art production and multitracking, and more on punchy rhythms and vertically structured harmonies. This is within the context of songs such as 'Sir Duke,' 'Fly Away' (written by Cedric Dent), and the guitar-accompanied 'Workin' For Da Man,' which should become a rockabilly cult classic - very cool minor chord derived harmonies give it the feel of genuine lament. The recitation intro of 'Have You Seen Her,' along with the arrangement and even the stylistic inflections, are an uncannily accurate rendering of 1960's doo-wop/soul. The final track? That pillar of the barbershop pantheon, 'Coney Island Baby.' These guys are fun.

The Bad News is, the former Sweet Adelines Queens of Harmony, the four lovely, talented women of Panache, have disbanded and are no longer singing together as a group. The Good News is, they left us this wonderful 2-CD set to remember them by! We won't go into the individual titles, but suffice to say that there's a "whole bunch" of our favorites on these two CDs, including selections from discontinued Panache titles. These are the songs that took them to Sweet Adelines Gold, and that made them one of our best selling Barbershop titles. We can't start with superlatives when describing the Real Group's work. Our thesaurus isn't infinite. Suffice it to say that they are the premiere jazz a cappella group in Sweden. Well, maybe in Europe. Ok, ok, in the world. They open with a choral scat introduction as they launch into an upbeat "It Don't Mean A Thing." Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke" never had it so good. Sweet and slow harmonious interplay is the texture of "When I Fall In Love." Don't drift off into a reverie because (pow!) here's the well known "Chili Con Carne," and so we are alternately jazzed and beguiled by a dozen great tunes, all in English.
