Continuing our New York Voices Series, we present this hot new arrangement by Darmon Meader for the New York Voices. In the tradition of their charts, "Smack Dab in the Middle" is a slick arrangement and is full of fun and humor. The Big Band chart is also available! An excellent choice for any top-notch vocal jazz ensemble. "Bli-blip" - This quirky gem from Duke Ellington has been a staple from the jazz vocal group New York Voices for years and is an audience favorite. The tune is relatively simple and NYV member, Darmon Meader, turns it on its ear, creating a fantastic SATB arrangement. "Moonlight in Vermont" - Lush, contemporary jazz harmonies and styles define this arrangement with each vocal line featured as if they were soloists. Chord symbols are included for the accomplished jazz pianist but the realized piano part is worthy of any player. This is a swing ballad that will leave your audience breathless.

Based on the Nat "King" Cole classic big band recording, this arrangement of "Orange Colored Sky" stacks a swingin' close harmony quartet on a walking vocal bass with soprano lead (either section or solo). Plenty of syncopated rhythms and playful background lyrics make this very fun to sing. The center "instrumental" section allows you to feature a quartet of your most impressive part singers. The a cappella arrangement of "Come Fly With Me" takes the listener on a trip around the world on the wings of one of Frank Sinatra's most iconic songs. Walking bass and playful background parts support a swingin' solo. Vocal percussion optional. "Caravan" - imagine Duke Ellington taking a year's sabbatical in Morroco: A wordless, rhythmically complex Middle-eastern tinged arrangement that breaks into straight jazz in the B section. S, A and T split in half with one trio echoing the other's tight horn sectin-like voicings. Vocal or standad percussion works well here especially multiple percussionists. With "Sing, Sing, Sing" you'll swear you hear an entire big band coming out of your voices in this lyricless take on Benny Goodman's classic recording. The Ambassadors of Harmony is Barbershop in grand form. The three beautiful, talented Andrews Sisters had the sound, look and attitude that defined the Swing Era, in our minds one of the most entertaining and creative periods in American music. Jasmine Records obviously agreed with us, and set out to put together a comprehensive collection of every song the prolific Sisters ever recorded, an amazing 101 tunes on 4, (yes, 4!) CDs. The first two contain all the American charts hits, and the other two contain many rarely heard songs which have never been reissued on CD. 13 tunes sung with Bing Crosby, like "Yodelin' Jive," "Victory Polka," "Don't Fence Me In," "The Three Caballeros" and "South America Take It Away;" 3 with Danny Kaye, like "Civilisation-Bongo, Bongo, Bongo" and "Put 'Em in a Box, Tie 'Em with a Ribbon;" "Yipsee-I-O" with Carmen Miranda, 4 with Dick Haymes, and others like Dan Dailey and Red Foley. ManSound, an a cappella sextet from Kiev, Ukraine, got its start in 1994 as an idea of composer and arranger Vladimir Mikhnovetsky. The group consists of experienced professionals and it is a permanent participant of international jazz festivals and concerts. First building a Russian fan base with concerts and appearances at jazz festivals in Moscow and other cities, ManSound began touring in 1996, when the group traveled to the United States for six weeks, performing with great success in universities and evangelical churches. In February of 2000, ManSound performed at one of the biggest jazz events in the USA, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, following the invitation of Lionel Hampton himself. They also performed in 2002 and 2003, delighting crowds of 5000 at the nightly performances. Dr. Lynn Skinner, director of The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, called ManSound the hit of the jazz event. "Magic" has only 7 songs, but 3 are marvelous medleys, two of them of George Benson's songs and one of Stevie Wonder tunes. Besides these favorites, "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "Nature Boy," "Lullaby of Birdland and "Angel Eyes" are standouts-which includes everything on the CD. Tremendous voice control, incredible arrangements, butter-smooth blue-note harmonies, surprising tempo changes and scat breaks-it adds up to a stunning first CD by a huge, fast-rising talent in the jazz/a cappella world!

'Discovery' is the inaugural CD of Max Q, a newly-formed barbershop quartet, but the subject of considerable SPEBSQSA buzz because of the amazing pedigree of the group's members. Baritone Gary Lewis was a collegiate SPEBS champion prior to winning Gold with Platinum. Tenor Greg Clancy is Associate Director, and 26-year member of the Vocal Majority. Lead Tony De Rosa and bass Jeff Oxley are two of only 13 men who have won SPEBSQSA quartet Gold twice, De Rosa with Keepsake and Platinum, Oxley with Rapscallions and Acoustix. From the first strains of 'Smile Medley,' the opening cut, the sheer vocal and harmonic power of these men is obvious, as is the quality of their arrangements. 13 tunes, some of our favorites are 'If I Had My Way,' a jazzy, blue-note rendition of Van Morrison's 'Moondance,' an intricate 'Shenandoah,' 'When My Sugar Walks Down The Street,' 'Where Is Love,' the spiritual 'Shadrack,' Tony's soaring lead on 'Fare Thee Well, Love.' 'You Tell Me Your Dream,' and a powerful 'Sing, Sing, Sing.' Joe Connelly is the only man ever to have won an amazing 3 quartet Golds, but we wouldn't be at all surprised to see De Rosa and Oxley of the new Supergroup Max Q join him at the next Internationals. Our 'Discovery?' Max Q has a truckload of talent and they know how to use it!

The best things in life are worth waiting for! After several delays the much anticipated new release from one of the top jazz vocal groups in the world is finally available and we couldn't be happier. Equally masterful at tight harmonies and individual solo flights vocalists Peter Eldridge, Lauren Kinhan, Darmon Meader (who also blows a mean tenor sax) and Kim Nazarian have delivered their most swinging outing to date. All but one of the songs were arranged by the incredibly talented Meader whose fresh spin on these Swing Era classics are a joy to listen to. The vocals are also very strong, especially Kinhan and Kim, who must be some of the jazziest, sexiest female singers around. Accompanied mostly by a swinging big band the final song "I'll Be Seeing You", however, is a pure a cappella gem.

Formed by two BYU students in 1991 in the traditional college glee club format, 9-man Vocal Point discovered a huge interest in their high-energy, wonderfully-arranged covers. "Nonstop" features recordings by 3 different configurations of the group, 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. Photos of those groups are in the full-color liner notes, where founders Bob Ahlander and Dave Boyce also describe watching their creation win the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella at the Lincoln Center in NYC in April of 2006, an inspiring and moving story. The 16 high-energy cuts begin with a rousing a cappella rendition of the THX/20th Century Fox fanfare, "Spider-Man Theme," Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing," a very fine "Sunshine Medley" ("Walkin' on Sunshine," "Ain't No Sunshine" and "Let the Sunshine In"), Robert Allen and Al Stillman's 50s harmonic gem "No Not Much," Marc Broussard's Southern-fried foot-stomper "Home," Garth Brooks' beautiful, touching "When You Come Back to Me Again," Michael Jackson's "Thriller," and the final cut, traditional hymn "Nearer My God to Thee." Solid vocal percussion, fine arranging, strong harmonies, powerful leads (especially Michael Buble on "Home")--it all adds up to great entertainment from one of our favorite collegiate ensembles!

The pride of Cleveland, TN's Lee University, The Voices of Lee is a 16-member, mixed-voice a cappella ensemble, long recognized by us as one of the elite collegiate groups in their 16 years of existence. They have released 5 excellent CDs, a pair of wonderful live DVDs and in 2009 were chosen to compete on NBC's hit show The Sing-Off, based on our own national competition, The Harmony Sweepstakes! Director Danny Murray, who led the group to a Second Runner-Up Sing-Off finish and exposure to millions of new fans with perfect performances like their cover of Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror" that's a YouTube favorite. "Sing, Sing, Sing" is a lovely collection of ten Contemporary Christian tunes, most of them arranged by the group, especially Tenor Phil Nitz.
