The Delmonicos were originally formed in Manhattan in 1959. In their early years they performed in clubs such as the Copacabana, Peppermint Lounge and Camelot. In 1963 they recorded a couple of 45's and enjoyed considerable local success singing in the style of the classic 1950's NYC groups. They reunited in 1986 to perform for the United In Group Harmony Association's 10th year celebration and have continued to perform since that reunion. The current lineup features three of the original members and, recently, a band to enhance their performance package. You will hear the unmistakable bass of Gary Knight and the original Mr. Delmonico himself, Joe Cariati, with his stunning leads and soaring falsettos. In 1981 for a 20th class reunion of one of the members, the five men and one woman decided to recreate the music they loved as they grew up. They sing a New York style with a distinctly southern twist for they are from Tennessee. As an aside, the fine woman's voice you will hear belongs to Christy Little who ran for a Juvenile Court Judge in 1998.The 28 tunes are those that any one who went to high school in the late fifties or early sixties will have to remember fondly, or else turn in your Baby Boomer ID.

There are some doo-wop groups from whom the clean, smooth, crisp sound just seems to flow like a street corner water fountain, like it did with the original groups who burst onto the airwaves in the 1950s and 60s. The 5-man Magic Touch is one of those groups, and 'Sincerely' just goes to show how appealing and timeless the combination of great arranging, soaring harmonies and classic material can be. The three sisters McGuire indeed have a unity of blend hard to match among the many famous sibling groups. Their popularity was immense, and their cover versions of songs such as "Sincerely" and "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight," (both originally sung by the Moonglows and Spaniels, respectively) placed higher on the charts than those of their progenitors; the McGuire's sound and image was considered more acceptable to white audiences. While some of the songs, like "He," don't hold up as well over time - the lyrics and orchestrations seem a bit precious - the vivacious delivery is so unabashed, the apparently innate tunefulness so exact, and the arrangements so creative that "Muskrat Ramble" and "Sugartime" leave no doubt as to why the McGuires were loved by so many.

The McGuire Sisters were stars of radio and television and were the most popular sister group of the 1950's. This huge 59 track 2CD set compilation covers many of the McGuire sisters' biggest hits. The majority of the McGuire Sisters' hit recordings are included here, together with several titles that are debuting on CD. Some tracks have not been available since their original single release dates. 'Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight' was the first of their recordings to change into the Top Ten in 1954, followed by the spirited 'Muskrat Ramble' four months later. The following year brought even greater record sales. Their recording of the rhythm-and-blues-oriented 'Sincerely' shot to #1 on the charts, becoming one of their greatest hits, earning gold records for all three sisters.
