Paul, JD, Mark & Chris share solos on these 14 songs (actually 18, considering the final cut, "Best of Doo-Wop" includes "Duke of Earl," "The Book of Love," "Get A Job" and the Harmony Sweeps anthem "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight"). Just listen to cut #9, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (before a live audience at an elementary school in Wilmington, IL) if you want to see how much these guys (a) love their work, and (b) have big fun in concert. It's hard to pick favorites here, but "Who Put The Bomp," Brian Wilson's "Little Deuce Coupe," the Drifters' "Under The Boardwalk," Maurice White's "Shining Star," Hanson's "MMMBop," and James Brown's "I Got You (I Feel Good)" (which segues into a short, surreal sample of Strauss' "Blue Danube"), and a nice original by Mark, "Get Out The Way" will do for starters. See these guys live if you can, and get a sweet taste of their good stuff on "Out of the Box!". Then, after you've listened, put Out Of The Box in your computer (PC or Mac) and check out the amazing Enhanced Content: the Ac Rock Concentration game, The Ac Rock Sound Machine, a QuickTime Virtual Reality walkaround of the AcRock sculpture, and interactive bios for all of the guys. A free multi-media bonus that appeals to all ages! Songlist: Shining Star, Absolutely Right, Happy Together, Who Put The Bomp (In The Bomp Ba Bomp Ba Bomp), Under the Boardwalk, I Got You (I Feel Good), (So Nice) Blue Danube, Get Out the Way, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Little Deuce Coupe, Pretty Little Angel Eyes, MMMBop, So Fine, Duke of Earl, Book of Love, Get A Job, Goodnight Groove For Thought : Inspired We were first blown away by Seattle's 7-voice (6 men, 1 woman) Groove for Thought when they stepped onto the stage at the Harmony Sweeps 2005 National Finals, where they won "Best Original Song" and the National Championship. Their amazing arrangements, hot leads, and an infectious, unique blend of jazz and R&B left little doubt in our minds and the judges' who was the best group on stage. The second time was in 2010 on NBC's The Sing-Off, when this talented group survived three intense rounds of tough competition with great performances, gaining millions of fans and joining an elite group-the best performing a cappella ensembles on the planet! "Inspired" is a tour de force collection of 11 cuts that only underline that perception, and is certainly one of our early favorites for best jazz album of the year (although we'd also listen to arguments that it's the best R&B album of the year!) Some favorites are a cappella winners, Michael Jackson's "Human Nature," Ray Charles' hit "Hallelujah, I Love Her So," a sublime arrangement of Lennon/McCartney's "Got to Get You Into My Life" and Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors." Accompanied favorites are EWF's "Shining Star," Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" segued into Wilson Pickett's "Knock on Wood," Pickett's "Midnight Hour," Cyndi Lauper's "Who Let in the Rain," and Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet it Is." More accompaniment than we were expecting, but very cut is a gem here-don't miss "Inspired," a powerful album by one of America's best! Songlist: Shining Star, Human Nature, Hallelujah I Love Her So, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours / Knock on Wood, Got to Get You Into My Life, Straight to My Heart, In the Midnight Hour, Who Let In the Rain, How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You), True Colors Various Artists : Harmony Sweepstakes 2004 This year's Harmony Sweepstakes reminded all who participated, how magical making music can be. Now, we all can share that magic by listening to this excellent live recording. With 20 years gone by, this national competition is still going strong and bringing out the very best in a cappella singing. This year's show had an excellent assortment of various styles, including jazz, pop, contemporary, Latin and much more. There were lots of humorous moments, including the national champions, Chapter Six's original song, 7th Wheel, as well as somber/uplifting moments including the beautiful performance of Kiss From A Rose by Impulse. Of course no one could forget Clockwork's performance of Inna-Godda-Da-Vida or Vox Bop's Commercial medley. With continuous stellar performances from all eight groups, this 19 track CD is sure to keep you entertained. Songlist: Happy Birthday, It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), Blue Bayou, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Salsa Te Triago Yo, 7th Wheel, Charlie on the M.T.A, Take 5, St. Louis Blues, I've Got Rhythm/Fascinatin' Rhythm, God Bless This Child, Obsession, Cree (Believe), Isn't She Lovely, Use the Force, The Commercial Medley, Bye Bye Blues, Shining Star, Kiss From A Rose Various Artists : Best Of Acappella Vol 2 It was still in 1965 that the second Relic Record was produced. The first was selling well in a streetcorner underground around New York City and Philadelphia. Eddie Gries and his partners decided to start producing their own acappella sessions. They began with the popular group, the Chessmen. The Holidays were a young group which auditioned right in the Times Square Record Shop. The Citadels were the first mixed group to record acappella, streetcorner style. The Youngtones were a young Latino group who almost made it big. This second record was rounded out with leased masters by the Delstars of 'Zoop Bop' fame (remember them?) and the Five Jades. None of these songs had been released before Best of Acappella Vol 2. The CD is packaged with the same images which a adorned the original album jacket and includes the original album notes. Songlist: I Want To Dance, Your Way, Lola, New Love Tomorrow, Johnny Johnny, Let Me Come Back, A Teardrop, When I Woke Up This Morning, Chant Of The Isles, When I Fall In Love, For Sentimental Reasons, Adios, My Baby Loves Me, Maryann, It Happened Today, Shining Star, Time After Time, To Make A Long Story Short, Is Everybody Happy?, Ten Commandments Of Love Who's Your Daddy! : Who's Your Daddy! "They sing! They rock! They need a nap!" is the teaser for all male a cappella quartet Who's Your Daddy!, and might make you think they're a lightweight garage band; but you'd be mistaken. Freddy, Rick, Adam and Chris have some serious vocal chops, as well as long, extensive credits in the music business, as well as in film and television. This is the debut album for these four dads, and it's got 14 freshly-arranged Rock, Pop and Soul favorites, joyously and powerfully sung. From The Cars' "Let's Go," Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and "Livin' For The City," to the Sly and the Family Stone's "Hot Fun in the Summertime," Brian Wilson's poignant "In My Room," the Spencer Davis Group's 1967 hit "Gimme Some Lovin'," The Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" and The Young Rascals' "Groovin'," these are great songs sung by guys who know how to do them justice. Two other favorites are medleys, "Time of the Season" segued with Prince's "When the Doves Cry" and Queen's anthem "Bohemian Rhapsody" segued into Queen's "Somebody to Love." But every cut is a stone, fun winner. Treat yourself to "Who's Your Daddy!" Songlist: Let's Go, Signed Sealed Delivered, Livin' For The City, Fire And Rain, Shining Star, Long Train Runnin', Hot Fun in the Summertime, In My Room, Time of the Season / When Doves Cry, Gimme Some Lovin', Free Falling, Sunshine of Your Love, Groovin', Bohemian Rhapsody / Somebody to Love |
